The quote 'the opposition will suffer' implies they will lose a seat. They will not lose a seat imo. The actions of the two government TD's suggests they know they will take a hammering. Donegal has form here, Neil Blaney being a case in point.
The government parties will suffer in Donegal that is now beyond speculation.
One having difficulty spelling it when it's right in front of him, another seems to think it means something else completely. Cereal, or homophobe, who knows.. They are unlikely to respond now.
Fwiw, the precedent set does not have to be anything to do with the law. Leo has set a precedent of sharing information marked confidential. God knows who will be sharing what from now on.
Its not only FG having problems
🍿
Well I think Sinn Féin will lose votes in Donegal if a Mica candidate runs. If that isn't a form of suffering, i don't know what is. Why would someone from Inishowen vote for MacLochlainn to do their bidding when there is a Mica candidate that can cut out the middle man?
I think both Doherty and MacLochlainn both get relected but that won't be deemed success for SF. Do you think SF can pull a third seat in Donegal?
The comment was 'the opposition will lose out' totally deflecting from the fact the government parties will suffer. The opposition will not lose.
How is it a secret meeting?? 🤦♂️
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't forget Clare too.
Wait, so we can believe twitter again? Or are we already inside a window of acceptance for it at the minute? When do we go back to not believing anything on twitter?
Is there timetable anywhere we can follow?
McHugh is not running in the next election so no idea why the writing would be on the wall.
He's not running because he saw the writing on the wall.
Anyone around who thinks the Government did a decent old job in the past 2 years?
Twitter filled with cranks and bot's is now somehow to be Believed. Schrodinger's Twitter it must be.
The word is a shinner might lose out because of a split of the votes with the mica party. I think another one issue party will go the way of one in four.
Being from Donegal I would say anyone who is going to vote number 1 for a Mica candidate wouldn’t give a preference to any ff or fg whereas they probably would for SF, be more inclined to anyway.
In the scenario where a mica candidate runs, 3 sf, 1 mica, and/or independent(Pringle) or 1 FF is the most likely outcome IMO.
Morning 😉 so which is it, Twitter a land of make believe and Fantasy if a person doesn't like its content, or the source of record when it does🤔
I'm getting a headache trying to keep up with the Hypocrisy 😊
€3bn says they actually wouldn't. As an issue it would only resonate in those parts of the country where it is a widespread problem and that final bill does away with any other argument. Hard to gauge the effect even there, especially with competition from other opposition parties. As others have suggested Donegal might be a good place but there'd be intense SF competition.
And if you read it anywhere but The Mail it was to have a chat. Nothing like the approaching doldrums of summer political activity for the media to stir a completely empty pot.
I missed most of yesterdays developments. Much excitement of the ending of that Probe and investigation, must still hold the record for length of time it took to conclude, nothing to see here.
Media (verified) not terriblly convinced its not been damaging.
Some still calling Leo terrible names
Others appear confused
I just stuck to screen shots as its clear some don't bother to read actual news 😏
I've rarely come across you on Boards (Thankfully), if I recall it was you who made comments about what age I was. Obviously you don't have an ability to take what you give, but perhaps you really should read charter rules regarding attacking Posters not their posts.
You've clearly very little to say beyond occasional jibes, all perfectly fine albeit bizzare. I enjoy a little Banter, even heated debate, Childish I'm certainly not but I'll certainly oblige and bring my self down to a level to engage with Childishness, such as you displayed yesterday.
Still not to late to send me a Birthday card, it's tomorrow.
I disagree. As I said this issue resonates with people who struggled hard to pay for their homes, they would get support across the country.
The €3bn price tag would resonate far more. It's a single issue and if it were a Save our Hospital that would be more cross-community and could get a few votes. For many people, rightly or wrongly, mica is a very expensive problem in Donegal. It's not going to influence their votes in most other parts of the country.
It's called empathy, Irish people in the main have that and the price tag would not matter. To build your home and be let down by regulators who fucked up, can be understood by everyone. McHugh knows this, that's why he is gone.
And in Donegal you could be right, maybe even in Mayo but not in Laois, Wicklow, Waterford or anywhere else. And the price tag matters a hell a lot. All politics are local as they say and mica is just not local enough.
How much do think a voter in Dublin North Central cares about a place they have probably never been to or about a problem they may not understand all that well and where people may get up to €400K per house?
Those who have an 'I'm alright Jack' attitude (and there are plenty) will not care but I think there would be enough with empathy to have an effect. The government are thrashing around on this issue for a reason, they know this.
That thrashing around is on cost only. Mica campaigners seem to want 100% in all cases and hang the cost, that is unsustainable. We are all after what matters to us at election time, that's human and the empathy in this case is driven by just how much of a bill we can tolerate.
Even if there are candidates in Donegal they will need to have some level of ability about them. Pretty much anywhere else they are very likely to lose deposits.
And as homeowners people understand that they shouldn't be out a single cent as this was a government (which is ultimately responsible for the regulatory scheme that failed) incompetence. I don't claim they would win seats but they would get enough votes to cause concern for sitting government TD's.
People in Dublin North already got taxpayer money to fix their houses in a similar situation
Verified journalist.
Doubtful it'll pass mind you.
The sincerity of the defectors is being put to the test. Grabs popcorn.
Baton down the hatches for reactions 😏
