Well I think Sinn Féin will lose votes in Donegal if a Mica candidate runs. If that isn't a form of suffering, i don't know what is. Why would someone from Inishowen vote for MacLochlainn to do their bidding when there is a Mica candidate that can cut out the middle man?
I think both Doherty and MacLochlainn both get relected but that won't be deemed success for SF. Do you think SF can pull a third seat in Donegal?

Fwiw, the precedent set does not have to be anything to do with the law. Leo has set a precedent of sharing information marked confidential. God knows who will be sharing what from now on.
The quote 'the opposition will suffer' implies they will lose a seat. They will not lose a seat imo. The actions of the two government TD's suggests they know they will take a hammering. Donegal has form here, Neil Blaney being a case in point.

In order for SF to get closer to government they need to get a third seat in Donegal. The two lads almost took another quota between them in first preferences last time round. If a Mica candidate runs i don't see a third seat for SF. That's how the opposition suffers.
McHugh obviously sees the writing on the wall. I'd say McConalogue doesn't expect to be a minister after the reshuffle and he'll be able to be a bit more vocal against government position. I'd still see a FF seat in Donegal. Wouldn't rule out an FG seat. The locals will tell a lot but obviously depends who replaces Joe on the ticket.
That analysis could be out the window if constituency is redrawn into two three seaters..

Mica is now in over 10 counties and counting. Alot of families etc to be affected by mica or someone they know affected to be found yet

The mica campaign at this stage is been seen as a money grab by huge sections of ireland, no matter what is offered people want more money. Trying to say a mica party will win seats across ireladn is incorrect, Donegal yes but apart from that most people will vote against

Ive often wonder would government be secretly happy if the Mics bill didn't pass 🤔, past the buck, let it drag on for a few more years so to speak, clearly no one happy with it, those affected, those not affected and seemingly a lot of TD'S who won't admit they are unhappy about it 🤔, just a humble thought, opinion of mine.
Their effect will be to split votes from the opposition parties.

They won't be able to dispel the idea that there is no accountability here because in order to cling to power they didn't hold him accountable for the wrong he confessed to doing.

As its a government issue considering a FG TD resigned the whip and a FF one is potentially doing a runner aswell
