You didn't answer the question.
Which is worse, glad-handing a government that has invaded sovereign territory and that you are convinced has cyber attacked you for a vote and facilitating them moving money around the world or doing what every politician does, go abroad to promote your vision for the country among democrats and potential friends and investors, exactly what Michael et al do on St Patrick's Day?
Will you answer that question? I doubt it.
I do not think we should be letting unlimited numbers of Ukranians into our country as
A. We have no houses for all of them (any of them really since we have record homelessness)
B. Our schools are not equipped to add thousands of kids (we have one highest classes in EU already)
C. We cannot keep affording to pay them all full social welfare, free accommodation and in some cases 3 meals a day plus accommodation (while still getting their social welfare payments)
Does that make me racist, NOPE
Just so im not accused of deleting pro Putin comments in an edit above
The irish times poll stated 60% of people want a cap on Ukrainians coming here.
According to Blanch them 60% in our country are anti immigrant racists
Tbf there's 3 parties in government and I'd imagine the majority of councils are made up by members of those parties. If they can't their own colleagues to do something, they shouldn't be in charge.
I live beside the luas, it's a under capacity joke of a system. Walking speed through the city centre
At least its free
Well actually, the biggest problems arose in DCC during the period when SF and the lefties had a majority on the council. Nothing got done between 2013 and 2019, with the council actually opposing the building of homes in many cases. The legacy of that continues.
Councils tend to be more varied than the Dail in who is elected. There are two elements to councils, the spoofers that make up its electoral body and the physical council who are allegedly employed to do work. I'm referring to the latter which, much as I dislike the term, are barely fit for purpose in many places. In many cases, they are utterly incapable of collecting any income owed and projects can often be crowd pleasing. Housing and infrastructure is best not mentioned.
Elected councils too cause their own grief and quite a few county and city managers have had to set budgets where councillors failed to overcome ideological squabbles.
When the Luas was been built a huge amount of people said ireland was going back 100 years or whatever it was when the trams got taken out of the city
Of course when it was built and it was a massive success then everyone complained that it wasn’t big enough and it should cover more of city etc
Personally I would prefer them to invest in Luas system and have it running from airport/swords/Blanchardstown/all over the city
Plus shut down more and more of the city to traffic
True, there are the civil servants which can cause issues (lots of them are barely fit to work and are just robbing a wage). I do think though that if government can't overcome that, they're not really fit for purpose as is. They need to be less concerned with photo ops and virtue signalling and actually trying to get stuff done. Fair enough if they still ultimately can't, but at the moment, it looks like they're barely even trying and are happy for house prices to continue to get higher. Any of the policies that were put in place, most knew the outcomes of them like HTB scheme actually causing housing inflation, or the discrepancies of treatment between smaller landlords and REIT with tax along with our eviction unfriendly attitudes causing landlords to exit. The governments policies seem to want a housing disaster imo with what they've done and not done.
Maybe FFG are unconsciously selling all of the houses/apartments to foreign investors.
Bravo! Can a post be liked twice or three times? 😁
Magic money tree. The cost is of absolutely no concern to them.
Who is the actor in that, he looks an awful lot like Bruce Forsyth?
There are no civil servants working in local councils.
The two largest party groups on DCC are FF and FG. He's either in charge of housing and LA's or he's not. Especially when his party has such a presence on the council.
You know he's referring to the German investors purchasing properties earmarked for leasing for 25 years by DCC.
G'wan SF, putin, Ukraine something something....thats your level.
Hero worshipping the leader of FF engaging in a PR run. How far FG have fallen. Pity the same willingness to jump on the bandwagon wasn't there when Crimea was invaded and the Irish government refused to sanction Putin, who still has money resting in Ireland by the way.
The two largest arty groups on DCC are FF and FG. He's either in charge of housing and LA's or he's not. Especially when his party has such a presence on the council.
Being in charge of LAs doesn't mean you can force them to do anything and you're confusing blowhards in the chamber with the physical council. Few of those anywhere in the country perform well. DCC for example is owed €38m in rent arrears and rising.
FF and FG have by far the most councillors sitting. They've the housing and LA minister, who has an alledged stacked planning board and you want me to believe housing is not in their control?
Again you're confusing local politicians with the actual wasteful physical council and we know that numbers don't matter if councillors are minded to object to local planning.
Housing policies are within government remit and where they can instigate builds. It's actual physical council building that nobody has any real control over, not even councils, as that link indicated, because they are utterly inept at it.
Oh dearie me, a poster who doesn't understand the difference between being the largest party group and having a majority.
The three government parties have 29 out of the 63 council seats, leaving the gobsh!tes that make up the opposition in the Dail with a clear majority on DCC. We are seeing in microsm on that council how such an alliance between SF and the left would actually work in practice - abysmally is the answer.
By the way, in case you don't get to read the link......
"The functions of the City Council include: public housing, library services, refuse services, drainage, driver and vehicle licensing, planning and roads"
But sure, the Minister is responsible for all of it.
Who in FG is hero worshipping the leader of FF engaging in a PR run?
You losing the run of yourself again?
There is a lady on TikTok complaining that she has been on the housing list for 12 years and is now being skipped as the houses are all being given to Ukrainian Refugees, and I doubt she is the only one.
You do seem to have an issue with Ukrainian refugees. One should always be guided by the better angels of our nature. It's also good to ask questions of the facts presented by such random people as that lady, especially on social media.
Lady on TikTok makes up story to provoke the racists, sucker falls for it. That's not a story.
Sorry, I couldn't post the link earlier. Not my issue. Take it up with her,

No, I am taking it up with you. You have presented some lady on TikTok as evidence of all the houses being given to Ukrainian refugees. Like, who do you expect to believe TikTok?
As you said, it was to provoke racists, take it up with her. I can't see why she would be provoking them in her hope for a house. Maybe you could explain why you think that?
I didn't "present some lady on TikTok as evidence of all the houses being given to Ukrainian Refugees"
I said that a lady on TikTok was complaining that she was being skipped, despite being on the list for 12 years. You need to read posts more thoroughly.
@blanch152 "evidence of all the houses being given to Ukrainian refugees" - they're your words not those of the poster who said "here is a lady on TikTok complaining that she has been on the housing list for 12 years and is now being skipped as the houses are all being given to Ukrainian Refugees, and I doubt she is the only one." I see no mention of "all the houses"
We have taken in 10s of thousands of Ukrainian refugees. Some people agree with uncapped numbers, some don't. The influx has to have reduced available supply for people on housing lists etc - it can't not have. That's a fact - again some people agree with uncapped numbers, some don't. Calling racism at any criticism is the usual nonsense - look over there. See also spurious accusations of homophobia, sexism, anger etc etc
That aside, I can't see why her motivation would be to provoke racism. Hopefully Blanch could shed some light on what he meant, and why he thinks that is her motivation.
Have to run. No doubt it'll be explained when I can view.
