May as well start the ball rolling.
Two Questions - does default mean the match is awarded to your opponent?
And does a player have to shake hands at the end? what if they don't - fine??
Yes, default means you're essentially kicked out of the match, regardless of the score, and the win is automatically handed to your opponent.
Shaking hands isn't mandatory but it's courtesy to do it. No fine if they don't, but a hostile crowd reaction is to be expected.
Norrie through to the quarters to play Goffin! Played the big points really well, worked so hard, wasn't much between them despite the scoreline.
Happy for him he seems like a lovely normal bloke, seemed emotional.
Cracking chance for both players, nice to see Goffin back , although he did bore me a bit , incredibly accurate player.
Norrie has had a very kind draw definitely, but has really improved. Goffin is decent, good chance for both of them as you say! Norrie has great fitness...Goffin looks wrecked after that 5 setter.
Alcaraz takes the third set! (Saved two match points) Has really battled and grown into this match.
There should be some brilliant battles in the future between these two!
Amazing half volley from the feet there from Alcaraz
He had to earn that tie-break
And we have a 4th!! Great tie break!! Really looks like Alcaraz will win from here , although he is yet to break Sinner.
Incredible last 15 minutes. Amazing how the momentum can turn around.
Sinner has been brilliant hasn't he!
Great winner for the 20 yr old Sinner! Both players with very little grass court pedigree but that 3rd set was very high quality. Id say he enjoyed that one! All the talk in the tennis world has been about Alcaraz , he has his name back in the mix. The question is , can he trouble Novak? Set 1&2 Sinner would have a chance. He didnt get broken at all there , very impressive and broke Alcaraz 4 times.
Sinner was terrific well deserved.
Really impressive! Bullied him at times.
Id say we will know within 15minutes if this next match is worth watching! Rijthoven has had an amazing 2 weeks.
Why was there play, always thought the 1st sunday was a day off at Wimbledon.
Its the first time ever its not , i dont know if it was because of the 100 year anniversary maybe.
Mon TIM !! Djoko has won plenty already 🤣
Did ye have money on the Latvian Lass or something :) The German player Maria outplayed her by mixing the game up more as far as I could see. Ostapenka hits the ball hard and that was about the sum of her today.
Enjoyed Alcaraz & Sinner. Sinner looked like he always thought he could prevail but Alcaraz was fighting and learning, a real battler. Has a bit of attitude about him but not mouthy at this stage of his career anyway. Keeps going like that and you'd have to think a potential successor to Nadal et al. Good match.
Now we see if djokovic can handle the grass court season GOAT
Ostapenko always hits the ball hard and with risk to make up for the movement
Not many recognised players left on the women's side so to have a better chance of reasonable semis and finals can be better to have more established players around
Alcaraz will get there on grass in the end no doubt
The rest of the year is hard court where he is strong
Sinner played very well but I find Alcaraz much better to watch generally (not fully firing today I thought)
And thats that haha
It didn't even take 15 minutes lol
Ah ive watched a lot of tennis today, seeing green hahah. Ill give this one a miss now.
Well the main thing for the semis and finals is that they are competitive. Sure the standard is important but nothing more boring than a 6-1, 6-0 match done and dusted in around an hour.
Tim holding his own early doors - just the one break against him so far in "Djokovic's" set - cmon the Dutchman 😊
I think holding his own is overstating things....he has lost the first set 6-2
not really - he was doing well for a while there (although not looking like winning),,
anyway, have just backed him at 25s (after set 1) to win match 😁
mon TIM !!!
Ah he had a few break points alright, but Djokovic in control. Can't see him coming back personally but good luck with the bet :)
Television stations want it. Late night games more common across all tournaments; we saw it at French Open too. It's causing havoc for the players. Expect there to be Sunday play in Wimbledon from now on.
Well he has broke! Playing really well!
