Greenway will #MakeFenitGreatAgain #SouthWesterly
Just measured a 15Km loop route from Rock St to the Oyster Tavern and back via Cockelshell / Canal. Credit to @riddlinrussell for map.
Anyone know how the Greenway is progressing. Will it be done by June?
T.
No easily visible progress from the road anyway. Ballygarron underpass is in by now, but there seems to be some clearance and a lot of blacktop needed on the Tralee side. Also, the bridge near Kilfenora is not in place yet. Fingers crossed for June but I'm not holding my breath.
Its ahead of schedule. It was supposed to be March 2099😁
It's pretty frustrating when you can see the completion date slipping over the horizon. I know there are some bike rental businesses who were getting set for this summer. It must be so frustrating for them.
Bridge is finally being put on in Kilfenora.
'Supply Chain Issues'. This is a bit of a cryptic article and gives no indication if the June open date is in jeopardy or not. They have actively been working on the Tralee-Fenit Greenway since Oct/Nov 2019 and still it drags on.
A puff of wind would knock over some fences they're putting up on the Kerry-Limerick whatever-they-call it now Greenway. Piss poor sub garden centre efforts.
They have started surfacing on the Tralee side, From what I can see they still have a lot to do. I'm guessing an August/September opening.
What about the Listowel leg of the Abbeyfeale greenway - Anyone know how thats progressing?
Not sure. Not much happening at the Listowel end last time I checked. Saw this on their FB page. Great time of the year to do it.
A 3km section of the Limerick Greenway from Abbeyfeale Car Park to the Kerry Border will be closed from Monday 23rd of May until Friday the 29th of July for the construction of a cattle overpass and underpass
Limerick City & County Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by this closure which is to facilitate improvement works on the Limerick Greenway.
Theres another section supposed to be opening at the weekend, I think it's the final stretch from Talaught to Fenit.
I say 'another' like I should know that there is a section opened before this 🤷♂️
I didn't know there was a section open before now either! I only saw it on Facebook this morning!
I guess the skinny mile is open already😁
Haven't heard of any other section open yet.
The same as that. If they can rise him from his slumber, Eamon Ryan is coming down on Friday to open it
The "another" word confused me too, I don't think any of it is open yet.
Edward St to Mounthawk is obviously what was being referred to.
You could be forgiven for forgetting about a section that opened about 7 years ago
Saw guys removing fencing on Monday night from between spa and Tralee.
Indeed. The pace of progress has been rather glacial.
The reports from Radio Kerry are saying that it is the section from the Spa to Fenit, which is a good amount of it. The Tralee to the Spa section due to be completed in Autumn
Fabolous Greenway
Tankard tob Fenit overlooking bay is beautiful
When you walk it you will see the skilled work that took a long timE eg.pillars ,bridges, walls. embankments
Kudos to all involved
Anyone know a good place to park to access the greenway from the Tralee end?
If you're happy to pay, there's plenty of parking round the back of the train station. €3.50/€4.50 for the day.
Just beware the Tralee -> Spa section of the greenway is not open yet. The only access point with parking currently is in Fenit.
From the Tralee side currently, you can only cycle/walk as far as the Bracker O' Regan Road, around 3km.
Might do that, thanks!
Cheers yeah I'm thinking I'll wait until the full route is open, hopefully by late summer!
Is it only accessible from the fenit end? I couldn't see the entrance at the Spa today, I know it's not finished but was hoping it would be accessible at least
In practice, the whole thing is accessible. Plenty of folk letting themselves through the barriers on the unfinished sections in the evenings and weekends when there's no work in progress. It's nearly all surfaced at this stage. Mainly agricultural crossings, fencing etc still to be done.
The greenway doesn't exactly go through Spa. You have to go 800m up the road at the side of The Oyster Tavern to where the greenway crosses the road. Obviously a path needs to be built along this section of road to provide safe access to/from Spa Village but how long we'll be waiting for that is anyone's guess.
