Rent a tent campsites

Hi all,

Im looking to do 10 days of cycling, about 100km everyday around Ireland (ROI and maybe north) and wondering if it's possible to do this while staying in camp sites using rented tents? don't want to lug around too much stuff and ultimately, campsites will decide the route as I've nothing planned. I had looked into airbnb but the prices are crazy.

Glamping is probably as expensive as Airbnb and few places would rent you a place for just one night in peak season.

Sort of rock and a hard place here, OP. Glamping sites generally won't do one night rental, and almost definitely won't have 1 man tents, so it'll be expensive.

Normal campsites won't have tents to rent out.

Would you consider buying a light (or ultralight) backpacking tent?

Small 1 man tent should only be the size of a sleeping bag give or take, and you’ll be able to book a pitch in almost any campsite and use their facilities.

i'm trying to avoid buying stuff i know i'll use just once. my current plan b is to drive to a location - do a 100km loop and sleep in the car. only issue is where will i shower?

Most campsites will have showers and bathrooms, have a look at pitchup to give you an idea of locations and costs, most of the time you can get a pitch for about 20-30 quid a night

Sell the tent or give it away as the cost will still be much less then B'n'B each night.

€65 or so for a tent in Lild at the moment. It says 3 or 4 person but won't be too big for 1 person. 5kg and small pack so won't take up space in the car. You could camp site a few nights and wild camp a few as well. Cycling from the car makes it all very simple to organise.

That's the sort of thing I was talking about earlier, but just be aware, the model above requires a hiking pole in order to pitch it.

If you chose a location in West Cork or Kerry, near the beginning of a peninsula, you could get a few iconic loops returning "home" each evening.

Hungry Hill at Adrigole offer cabins.

Check Eagle Point near Bantry. Another site near Lauragh, north side of the Healy Pass.

When were you planning to do it? Maybe my tent could be available in West Cork.

Youth hostel? Dun Chaoin, and Black Valley offer access to most of South Kerry and fab routes.

Eagle Point is nice. Bring your togs and you can go for a dip.

If staying at Hungry Hill check that your spot is not near the septic tank / vents. Friends of ours got caught with that one.

There are sites that offer this. Standard tents, not glamping. Two I know of are Bective Mill in Meath and Brandon Hill in Kilkenny.
