I noticed the price of several WD HDD's in my basket shot up in price, some by good 60-70 pound. then realized Prime Day was coming up just normal price increases for 2 weeks before the big "Sale"

I mean, they seem to do that every week or two, I wouldn't jump to such a conspiracy.

Agreed. I've seen prices change twice in the same day for the same item. Seems to be a continual fluctuation.

Just now an offer on jumper laptop is 199 with free delivery from amazon.co.uk but same item is 269 from amazon.es with cost for delivery here, even if with prime. Don't know if they are any good, but works out cheaper from amazon.co.uk just for example.you might find bargains on the europe sites but they seem to be priced more than co.uk

I'm assuming the 199 is sterling so you need to take it to the checkout to see the Euro price which will include all custom charges as the item is over 150 Euro.

I've noticed now on Zalando that they give you three prices.

    1. Price when first sold

    2. Lowest price within the last 30 days

    3. Current price

It makes it very easy to judge if you're actually getting a bargain.

the 199 already includes uk so changing that to irish vat will add about £6. no customs duty on laptops. converting it to euros makes it about €246.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭cap.in.hand.

It's showing up here at €291.76 including taxes and currency exchange

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,367 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

there is something odd about that listing then. when you go to checkout it doesn't remove the UK vat before adding the irish vat. If you checkout a different laptop for the same price it calculates the vat properly and the total is €243

I've spent ages trying to sort out similar VAT issues with Amazon. Amazon themselves are fine when sold by and dispatches from Amazon. The problem comes when its sold by a third party but dispatched from Amazon, multiple Amazon CS reps have told me they have no control over how the VAT is handled. For smaller value items I've managed to claim the excess VAT back from the seller but I'm not sure I'd risk it for a more expensive item.

Wake me up when it's all over.

it was much more of an issue a year ago. i thought they would have sorted it all out by now.

    Useful tips, thank you.

When you say "in the warehouse as you can just search the products that are included in the sale", is that an additional search filter you can include during the dates of the sale?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,505 ✭✭✭ablelocks

the warehouse page will have a banner advert for the sale - when you click on that, it will bring you to the sale section - you'll see amazon warehouse event at the left of the search box so your search will be confined to the selected sale items only (selected items can range from 7000 to 30000 items depending on how much stock they release to the sale)

I'm not sure if this is the best spot for this - but has anyone noticed the quality of items amazon deliver has dropped off of late? In the past few months I have had to return 4 items (3 electronics that were all faulty, 1 clothing that was the completely wrong size from what was specified on the page). I was only able to get 1 of the items replaced (a Kishi controller), all others had to be just returned for a refund. Pain in the hole, it's becoming almost a crap shoot as to whether or not the items will be up to snuff.

Their customer service has also gotten quite poor of late too.

I've had parts missing from Amazon warehouse stuff too often to list. Its normally only accessories to the main item that didn't bother me anyway but I always get on to chat and end up with an extra discount normally get 20% extra but sometimes its been a lot more although the CS reps have told me the max they can give is 20%.

I suspect some people buy stuff from Amazon just to fix their own stuff. So I've had PSU's missing and wonder did someone buy that item just to take the PSU out of the box and then return the rest of the item to Amazon? Its a long time ago now but I bought a fancy set of specialist spanners from Amazon warehouse and when I opened them up they were all there only someone had replaced all the Bahco spanners with Rolson ones. Full refund and Amazon said bin them.

The aqua fresh toothpaste was a similar price a few weeks ago. My order got cancelled. I had a previous order arrive thou. However, I wouldn’t be holding my breath that it will arrive.

Prime Day coming up on July 12th. May be a stupid question but I'm after a 27in monitor, what's the best way to track deals on them or find out when deals become available etc?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,333 ✭✭✭✭The Continental Op

What I tend to do is have a big saved wish list of all the things I'm interested in with notes on the prices (handy to check on claims of how much discount there is). Then on Prime day I can just look through the list. Can help save making a mistake on buying an impulse purchase you haven't researched.

Do Amazon do a Warehouse sale on Prime Day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,333 ✭✭✭✭The Continental Op

We hope so. Recent Black Friday and Prime Day Warehouse sales haven't been that good, but if we are lucky we'll get a good one with 30% extra off.

Anyone remember that cheap TV Sound Bar from about 2 months ago?

Anyone have problems with TV sound cutting out recently?

I am not 100% on this, but I think that the warehouse sale is after prime day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Ohmeha

Still working really good for me, bargain of the year contender so far until it breaks

Amazon are taking the proverbial...just 10% extra of their warehouse for this prime day...and only on a tiny selection of items
