The Right religious conservatives and who knows who else have today overturned the constitutional right to abortion in the US.
Will this now embolden anti abortionists in this country to fight back?
The US is a cold place for women now.
The land of the free eh. They are anything but. Falling down the ladder as a progressive and free country. Ironic.
I would hate to bring up kids over there tbh.
Even if abortions are banned in every state, you'll never stop abortions. Abortion pills can be bought abroad I'd imagine.
Stopping safe abortions means unsafe abortions will take place, and will probably result in more women losing their life as a result.
i'm pretty sure that most of this push back is a reaction to the violence and bullying of the last couple of years, the non-sense demands, and so on.
That's what happens when you replace debating with "we are done taking " type of attitude.
A lesson for progressive activists
But it's not going to be banned in all states. It should bever have been a federal law or rule anyway . It is a state issue. And now it is again.
Absolutely correct decision
what nonsense demands ?
that black and brown people get treated fairly?
how about recognising trans people exist and extending them the same rights as everyone else?
maybe you're talking about holding cops to account for their violence?
please elaborate
And again more deflection and more shutting down of a conversation by falsely labelling it as a 'farce'.
If a woman wants to get a medical procedure, then mind your own business. Doesn't concern you.
i guess rights should be based on the whim of those in power in a particular state, right?
Where a profit can be turned you'll always have unscrupulous elements take advantage.
so youre against women having bodily autonomy and control over their own reproduction?
Nobody is advocating to restrict anyone access to healthcare.
Abortion (excluding thankfully very rare and complex scenarios) is not healthcare, so stop framing it as such - it is very disingenuous as it results in the destruction of a human life every single time.
Unscrupulous dealers turning a few bucks by running a drug mail scheme is hardly for anyone's benefit but their own.
so we should make sure all women have access to safe abortions then, right?
Hold on, abortion is either health care or it's not.
You can't say it is health care in some cases but it's not in others. What is it?
Removing rights and freedoms from people is nearly always a disastrous move. You normally only associate it with dictatorships and authoritarian states.
Do you disagree with the 36th Amendment to the Irish Constitution then? It fully allows for the government of the day to legislate for abortion here as it sees fit.
I bet you voted for it.
But now when the Americans are placed in the same situation as us you're screaming blue murder.
The double standards are glaring. Like alot of the liberals they only like democracy when the results go their way.
Yes exactly. Elected representatives will decide. A public vote would also work.
You are aware that this is usually how it works in the West?
The last free for all we saw was chop or chaz or whatever it ended up as. Where war Lords carried firearms, open drug taking and overdose, rape, assault , imprisonment etc
No thanks
What a childish question.
For those who *need* them, yes, absolutely.
For those who just *want* one, not really.
Let's remove all restrictions and laws and have at it... let's see how your utopian world goes then.
The level of intellectual debate from those of a liberal dispension is woeful.
who decides who "needs" one and who "wants" one?
why do you want to put a bureaucrat between a woman and her doctor?
HA! A response from someone who knows they're caught by the balls.
You said it's not health care, except for certain circumstances where it is health care.
You don't decide when abortion is or isn't health care. It's either one or the other. So which one is it?
Woeful is right.
Whatever you do don't post facts that dismantle their carefully constructed fantasies, that's when they really get going.
.
The States that will ban abortion now are not Pro Life at all, they are pro Forced Birth. There is a difference. Pro lifers would do well to consider the life of an unaborted child (and its mother) after the birth, but they don't. That is why I have zero time for the Pro Lifers and will never have time for them until they address that outrageous anomaly in their thinking.
What has pushback related to trans rights or multiple genders anything to do with restricting the rights of women to abortion? Given that nationally the biggest supporters of prolife are motivated by religious beliefs i dont think they can point at others spreading nonsense ideas.
Having a society that assigns value to the life of a child is a positive step.
It will feed through in time.
Killing can't always be the first choice
If it's a state issue, I take it that those states will not take issue with some citizens travelling elsewhere to avail of abortion services and their politicians won't at all be lobbying to get abortion banned USA-wide, by hook or by crook.
But the Pro Life movement do not value the life of a Forced Born child post birth at all do they? Are they out on the streets demanding better supports for mothers and babies? It will not feed through in time in the US, maternity rights are practically non existent anyway for many many years now, and I have no confidence that having children whether wanted or not is -or will be- supported in any meaningful way there.
we`re not talking about children.
fetuses are not children.
once its born, it's a child and it's at that point the GOP don't give a **** anymore
If their argument was persuasive they wouldnt need to ban abortions. The majority of the western world and even the USA accept the need for some abortion rights. I can respect those prolife supporters that promote contraceptives, sex education and state child support but in reality most dont.
abortion at 8.5 months like they do in California, that still not a child for you?
Source?
What percentage of abortions occur in the third trimester of pregnancy?
When you figure out the answer, figure out why they are happening.
