The Right religious conservatives and who knows who else have today overturned the constitutional right to abortion in the US.
Will this now embolden anti abortionists in this country to fight back?
The US is a cold place for women now.
The right to not be vaccinated
The right to ingest narcotics as an adult
The right to stop being pregnant
Body autonomy seems to be a on again off again thing with Americans of a type.
Aye the blue states are still recovering from the massive depopulation they suffered in late 2016 into '17 as millions of people moved to Canada.
Your numbers are off, but yes there's been an uptick.
Maybe if you think about it for a bit ?
You are coming from the POV that all abortions are wrong ...and that American gun owners are responsible , that they have no accountability for the murder of actual children by disaffected youths or nutjobs with an ak47 .
I am coming from the POV that each school shooting is wrong. And that if American gun owners were really responsible they would do something to increase gun control. If these are the same people who want abortion clinics closed then they are hypocritical .
That was my point in essence .
I recognise your opinion but you won't be changing mine either .
Got a link to something more recent showing that it actually happened?
..
Oof, a thousand extra a year. At that kind of rate you could see dozens of people leaving some of the red states.
The numbers you've targeted (emigration to Canada) don't correlate to travel/moving between states. I also don't track why there would have been massive shuffling between moving states over the result of a presidential election. Reversal of Roe meanwhile much more plainly makes this an issue directly impacted by which state and jurisdiction you live in.
True but I did describe such procedures correctly earlier in the thread. Other posters were referring to said procedures as medical and I went along with that nomenclature. Why don't you go and have a pop at them as well?
Yeah the likes of DeSantis and Youngkin and fellow red governors in swing states will always be reluctant to imitate the most draconian bills that the red states have so that's a small relief for those states. The southern red states are very depressing because their governors/senators for the most part can govern as how they see fit without worrying about electoral blowback.
he won once and hit the post the second time so I dunno they may feel third time is a charm?
I wish he would go away tbh for many reasons, but he can take a lot of the "credit" for this ruling which is what will be enough to win a GOP primary and then with the electoral college who knows?
You said "based on social media..." and I was providing an example of the clear nonsense people came out with "based on social media" in the wake of the 2016 election. For everyone looking to move out of e.g. Texas there's plenty of dude-bros and ladies willing to take a chance on not getting raped/being able to go out of state in the fairly small chance of needing an abortion so that they can retire 5-10 years earlier. It's baffling to me after the last decade of seeing what America really is that people still don't seem to get it.
"I am coming from the POV that each school shooting is wrong. And that if American gun owners were really responsible they would do something to increase gun control. If these are the same people who want abortion clinics closed then they are hypocritical ."
While I would agree that there's probably some hypocrisy there it's an immaterial point to the issue here. If they were consistent in their views on abortion and gun control I don't imagine a pro-choice person would be any more on board with them regarding abortion.
I never said there was.
You said guns were protected.
A bit whataboutery but a reasonably valid argument imo. I never agreed with the vaccine mandate in the US. Thought it was an incredibly dumb move by Biden, in a country like the US of all places.
But women are the ones that get pregnant. If a man decides he wants to have sex there's absolutely no risk for him that he will get pregnant and carry a child. For women this is simply not true. So if a woman decides not to have sex there will be no pregnancy regardless whether the man is willing to have sex or not. Its a choice the woman has to make every time because the difference between her and the man is she can get pregnant, he cant.
Why is it not okay to ask anyone such questions? As long as there is anonymity of course. Surely, even the hard core liberals are interested in finding out why abortions are happening so government policy can be adjusted to target a reduction in the so proclaimed option of last resort.
Biden - another beta male.
I sincerely hope your belief that women who have abortions do so because it's the best decision for them also extends to men who walk away that they do so because it's the best decision for them. All things being equal and that.
Like QR codes to access flights, bars and restaurants and even in some cases to retain a job - where have we seen privacy like that stripped away before, seems very familiar but I just cant quite put my finger on such an example.
Can't afford a baby! Yet today in the streets of Dublin (and other major cities across the western world) we have corporates pouring millions into pride marches through sponsorships and the happy clappy liberals will adore the spectacle as they amass mega profits all while the majority of the workers go paycheque to paycheque to survive.
Not ready for a child! Another bollox argument - we're "empowering" women to think career first, family later, resulting in women leaving it much later in life to give birth and finally give in to her natural instinct to reproduce. That leaving it later bit is vital - it increases risk of the child having disabilities, ADHD and a whole other cohort of issues that in turn put pressure on our health services to cope with - a subject the health services are still learning about. Add to that the government of today will not give two hoots about it either - they will import youth from other nations to make up the shortfall while they collect three income taxes - the father, the mother and the childminder.
Not ready to be a single mother. This is the elephant in the room IMHO and seeing as we're discussing America - where there isn't as much of a social security net for single mothers as there is here in Ireland. What are the driving forces behind American men abandoning American women (or vice-versa) they engaged with and resulted in a pregnancy? Despite the more liberal approach to sex education that has come on in recent decades (some of it very welcomed) the green shoots of evidence surrounding reduced unwanted pregnancies are few and far between.
Finally - if you are of the opinion that children in an "impoverished home" are discard-able through abortion - then it's only reasonable of others to judge you as engaging in class warfare. The poor should be eliminated by encouraging them not to breed. It would serve you well to be reminded that the poor down through history have broke their backs to provide you with the country and lifestyle you enjoy today, warts and all.
Your sarcastic radar is broken.
LOLs - they're flying out of Cali to Texas in their droves, so much that they thought Biden would flip TX in 2020. What is driving them to leave?
If you think folks are going to upsticks out of Texas and surrounding states because abortion is less available then you're totally deluded. But I suppose it's par for the course for the liberal lefty - thinking that people move to a place because they love pride, access to abortion, multiculturalism and diversity (of their kind). Never about the money in their pockets at the end of the day, no, no, no!
Trump claimed to be pro-choice back when he was planning for the 2000 election. Universal healthcare was also one of his main platforms. I wonder if claiming he masterminded this will do much for him or if he has served his purpose now as far as the established GOP is concerned. There would be something fitting in seeing in that.
And so was building the best infrastructure in the world. Trump is a piece of **** who'll say whatever he thinks will get the biggest reaction at any particular point.
there was a time when I had a bit of resect for that nation. Not any more. Gone to hell in a preachers underwear they have. Something radical is needed when an ex president can dictate laws for a country and that country needs to stand up and do someting about it.
Why is it not ok to ask Qs? Because it’s no one’s business expect the woman’s. How is that hard to grasp?
I'm inclined to agree. It's about the money, there's a reason people move here.
People who are in a financially feasible position to relocate because of Texas's position on abortion are likely also in a financially feasible position to seek an abortion out of state and thus have no particular incentive to relocate. Whatever about the merits of Texas's legislation, I see few people moving as a result of it.
WTF is going on? I've seen several "anti racists" calling Clarence the N word in the last few days.
It's just a reminder of how invested political entities, even those outside, are in the US SC and how extraordinarily partisan it has become. It makes people angry and they can succumb to their absolute worst selves. As I posted earlier in the thread the SC is no longer respected nor well-regarded and increasingly a place to just settle ideological scores.
It's incredibly sad and disgusting.
I know many women and girls were genuinely upset by the decision. People who were survivors of rape, who could have potentially had to make a decision to carry a pregnancy to full term... the toll it would take. Ectopic pregnancies, endometriosis or some form of illness that would potentially put their lives at risk.
It's impossible to state how serious this decision is.
Scumbag to do so. But I've also never heard of this man and he's not exactly prominent. Any random white person who claims to be anti racist and uses the term is not.
I absolutely have a problem with Clarence Thomas but that's for his decision to target everything from abortion to gay marriage. His wife's effort to overturn the election result should also have him up for impeachment. But using racial slurs against him, absolutely **** not.
