The Right religious conservatives and who knows who else have today overturned the constitutional right to abortion in the US.
Will this now embolden anti abortionists in this country to fight back?
The US is a cold place for women now.
“We’re upset about something or other so If you don’t let us stop you from driving your car, and allow us to break off your wing mirrors and terrify the occupants of your vehicle by clambering onto the bonnet then we’ll frame it that you deliberately ploughed into us”. I assume there was also the obligatory screeching woman? There’s always a woman on hand to screech endlessly once the car has managed to escape.
The outcomes of equality, eh? Who would have guessed that this would have been the downside to empowering women to say no!
I don't think judges are meant to be politically motivated activists in the first place.
Now maybe many or all of them are crypto-activists but it's still odd to see RBG criticised as if she was just some flack.
If she wanted to preserve her view of the law then she should have.
They are going to interpret the same article in different ways, that's just human nature.
How can this be anti women when any human on the planet is a potential women?
Justneckbeardthings...
Grim.
This is a backwards step for the US but any Irish person needs to get down off their high horse acting like we are some shining example of women's right to abortion or women's rights in general, Roe vs Wade being 45 years before our own Repeal the 8th...
I'm guessing that you're not a fan of these lovely ladies?
It's a joke to those protesters.
From someone who did law, this represents an overturning of a ruling that should never have been made as it was conjured our of whole legal cloth by an activist bench. Now, this means devolving to the states to decide on the matter. Only the most vile and debased of socieries would chose to remove protections from the unborn.
The reason the 8th Amendment came in here in the first place was because those religious nuts in the US were pumping money into pro-life campaigns here to avoid another Roe.
So before you tell anyone to get down off their high horse, maybe you should learn about how the 8th came to be in the first place.
Is that you Charlie Kirk?
Republican protests = mostly overweight male losers with nothing going on in their lives
Democratic protests = younger, diverse, well dressed and generally healthy looking
I wouldn't be building that rod for your back.
Many photos of the "types" are easily available
There's literally a clip a few posts up that shows that that's not true. Most of them were obese, and few were healthy looking.
The funny thing is all the whining is coming from a corner that promoted activists like ginsberg for this very reason and are now crying that they've been hoisted on their own petard. 🤨
I have but i saw the Jan 6th rioters and most trump rallies and they are no comparison to democratic protests. Republicans looked like they barely finished Highschool
When life gives you lemons you make lemonades, and this thread is mostly lemon posting so have an emoji 😂
You'd hope that the lemon posters will calm down in a bit and get over their hysterics, but the Trump epoch has shown that their hysteria can become chronic, perhaps even permanent. 😔
What does someone who barely finished high-school look like?
If they go after gay marriage & sex, contraception etc. it's gonna get real over there. Difficult to imagine exactly how a civil war would play out as it's not a fairly defined North vs South thing like the first one, but they are heading in that direction imo.
It's almost hilarious.
You have hordes of incel male refuse propagating racial and misogynistic hatred online. If women decide that the risk is too high, that's basically it for them so there'll be some improvement in the human gene pool at least.
Like omg, they are, like, so lower class.
Not sure your snobbery is adding anything
it was conjured our of whole legal cloth by an activist bench
Roe versus Wade was voted 7-2.
5 of those 7 were Republican appointees.
Will any posters here sign up and ship out to the US to fight and die for gay marriage?
How does one preclude the other?
The good thing is with the pro choice ladies (or birthing persons if you like) you won't be straddled with child support.
From an Irish perspective, there are two key takeaways here.
1. Progress in freedom and human rights is not linear and is not guaranteed. We in Ireland cannot take it for granted.
2. One of the main driving forces behind this outcome is responsible for over 90% of our primary schools.
1 and 2 are not unconnected.
I thought it was far right evangelicals that pushed this?
Odd how with such a strangle hold on this country the catholic church wasn't able to stop same sex marriage and abortion referendums from being popularly supported.
Those largely empty churches must be some sort of a ruse.
Nope, the Catholics were a big factor too, see above. And of course six of the current supreme Court are Catholics, which is wildly disproportionate to the population of the US.
My point is that the continued decline of the church (all churches) as a source of moral or legal authority needs to be accelerated and we need to ensure it is never allowed to become a factor in Irish life again.
Having them educating all of our children is a risk to that and it needs to end.
While it was expected he'd stuff the Supreme Court in right wing favour, not every decision falls under which president won. Case in point, they have Biden and yet Roe V Wade was overturned.
The biggest threat to American freedom is currently Clarence Thomas, who's calling for contraception and gay marriage to be revisited and who's own wife is being investigated for trying to overturn the last presidential election.
