2022 WTA Tour
2022 ATP Tour
Qualies action should begin tomorrow (December 31st) so time to get the thread underway.
Here's to hoping we'll see some great tennis/storylines this year.
Two consecutive grass court titles for Berrettini. Yes he didn't exactly face the most stellar of opposition, but after a three month absence on the tour he's right where he needs to be heading into Wimbledon. Maybe a contender to back up his runner-up spot from last year, depending on how the draw works out?
Not the first time this has happened. He seems incapable of controlling his emotions and it clearly has a bug negative impact on him. He mentally imploded in the Aus open final as well.
It will be interesting to see where they go from here. It did stand out that he apologised to his wife and thanked the fans but no mention of his coach at all.
Very impressive first set from Jack Draper against Jenson Brooksby
Yep, I would definitely have him as a contender, albeit a long way back from Djokovic. Probably 2nd favourite with Nadal.
Draper looks like he could get to a 4th round , draw depending , really impressive stuff.
Tonked him 6-2, 6-2
Big win for Katie Boulter against world number 7 Pliskova.
wondering people's views on kyrgios - his playing style seems really unique, he seems really flat footed, and even how he hits the ball looks unlike all ther other players, who all seem to have similar styles. for example, he doesnt seem to bend down or move about when facing a serve. just stands there! he seems to kinda step around in rallies, never on his toes, never boucning around. also his ball strikes seem to be taken from a lower point or something
stat from tennis channel co comm today - only he and hewitt beat big 3 on first meetings. hewitt was older than big 3, he was younger and they were in their peaks! some talent
he barely played the last 2/3 years. aus open, , few other tournaments each year.
Cracking win for Jodie Burrage (world 169) against Paula Badosa (world number 4).
I don't think anyone could question his natural ability and talent. But he just doesn't have it between the ears.
Felix just suffered a humiliating loss to djkovic 6-2 ,6-1
An exhibition match, but a match in front of hundreds of people that he would have really wanted to win or at least be competitive . A complete submission
Excellent win for Jack Draper against Diego Schwartzman. Could be a really dangerous draw for someone at Wimbledon.
Update he got pooed on by a seagull during interview lol
Yeah hes looking really good! Defo looks like a potential top 30 player if he can do the same on other surfaces
If Cameron Norrie can make the top 10 Jack draper definitely can!
Phuck me man , cameron norrie is woeful hahah
Being kind I would say.... limited....but yeah
To be fair ya gotta respect what hes doing with his talent! A massive indictment of mens tennis atm though.
Knocked out in Eastbourne already
Jack Draper playing Ryan Peniston at Eastbourne today. I think Prime Video might explode.
Pretty one way traffic Jack Draper looking good again.
But they are both world class and outstanding probably according to the Amazon prime team
Would have to agree, very limited player, but, making the most out of what he has, hard to believe he's top a 10 player through.
Norrie is not in the Top 10 currently - he's ranked 12
He's a grinder but competent - like Ruud is, albeit with a good forehand (who is up further due to a kind draw at the French) - there will always be a couple of grinders around who will do well for a while but won't win a slam.
Meanwhile Raducanu is WTA 11 and has won a slam! (but has only won 1 match against a Top 50 player - number 49 at that in the last 9 months)
Now there is a limited game to watch.
Jack Draper versus Maxime Cressy match is decent...one set each. Very little between them.
Draper not quite good enough in the third set...but not much between them. But a good tournament for him, will be interesting to see how he gets on at Wimbledon.
Petra kvitova best jelena ostapenko is straight sets to win Eastbourne.
Australia are lifting their vaccine requirements from Wednesday, so that should pave the way for Djokovic to get in next January. Of course there's still the three-year deportation order, but I'd be highly, highly shocked if that'll be enforced in six months time.
The problem for Djokovic is that it's not just a case of not enforcing his ban, an actual decision must be taken that on compassionate or other reasons, his 3 year ban on getting a visa can be reduced. It's been in the political realm ever since Scott Morrison decided to make political capital from it and it will be no different for the current Labour government. If they feel it's not worth the political risk, they may not shorten the ban.
yes thankfully Scummo has been turfed out on his political ear.
the Australians might have gotten over themselves finally by next January for a measure that was more akin to an idiot slapping himself on the back as it achieved precisely nothing in practical terms and the requirement soon changed.
Why needlessly have a diminished tournament two years in a row?
Huge lack of self-awareness there though so who knows.
The only more thing possibly more ironic than a Russian-born Russian Resident winning the WTA Wimbledon this year is Raducanu entering the WTA Top 10 in today's rankings.
That's a real nadir.
Quite possibly the first person ever to be Top 10 ranked who has never beaten anyone in the Top 10?
Nice bit of progress for Thiem, let's hope it continues
