Your friend has a Victorian mansion in Surrey?

    Is your friend JP McManus?

I thought you didn't like Anecdotal evidence or is it just the bits you don’t like 🤔

Nothing to do with not liking it, if you have an issue with the veracity of it you will have to take that up with the OP. 🧐

Of course these women did not volunteer that info. After all it's classified/top secret information, but I have a torture chamber in a basement in my house.....I make them talk !!! Seriously - What's the big deal of two women returning to their home place to attend a friend's wedding ??? It may be news to you but they are free to come and go as they please, they are not prisioners or under curfew. Of course they talked about the wedding, showed photos, talked about life in their city now compared to before the war etc. etc. They are also in regular contact with their families & friends in Ukraine by e mail, skype, phone etc. it seems the network works 99% of the time, unlike the east of the country, the west was not bombed into oblivioin.

I would suggest that you should educate yourself more about the complex loyalties of Ukrainins especially in the east - just like the north of Ireland it's not all simply black & white. We had state sponsored terrorism here in the North (the Bloody Sunday massacre for example) no one will ever be convicted for this - same applies for atrocities carried out by Azov. In a war situation all sides commit war crimes, these should be investigated and the perpetrators, including Putin in this instance, should have their day in The Hague.

I would suggest that you should educate yourself

TBF I was trying to, you declared you researched and found 1000s of empty proprieties in the West of the country, when asked about his you described a conversation about a wedding in Kyiv, which the last time I looked at a map was North Central Ukraine. 😕

This should answer the questions some had regarding education at 3rd level for the Ukrainian folks arriving.

It's great to see the govt putting such measures in place, hopefully more to come.

The measure, approved by Cabinet today, will ensure displaced Ukrainians will be treated as European students and will not be subjected to international fees.

The national Erasmus grant allocation will also be used to fund financial supports for qualified persons who undertake full-time studies in Higher Education Institutions, as well as displaced academic staff.

Displaced Ukrainian students will also be eligible to access the Springboard+ programme and PLC courses.

Is it not you who has the issue with Verasity in general 🤔 I'm confused.

Clearly you don't have any children who will need to compete with these 'folks' for scarce educational supports, training places, never mind far from abundant student accommodation.

It's easy to be magnanimous when you and your loved ones are pretty much unaffected.

I have no idea why you asking me, they are not my stories.

Again, maybe the ask the person who was telling them.

Well said even though we've disagreed in the past 😉

But you keep questioning "Stories", just trying to stay up with your twist and Turns.

As you are more entitled too, like I said they are not my stories, I have explained now several times, it's a little unsettling you are still asking me about them.

Sure we have someone on this thread with a massive house that can house 20 refugees or whatever

People have different circumstances, means and resources shocker!

Not in the slightest bit as unsettling as your one dimensional views.

I often wondered about folks who have this "Not in my Back yard approach" to certain things, you know the sort who faine sympathy, understanding, compassion etc as long as the problems they confess to be sincere about arrive at their front door 🤔

Not in the slightest bit as unsettling as your one dimensional views.

It is IMO, all you are doing is discussing me personally, not the topic at hand, I find it unsettling, please refrain.

Apologies if I've offended addressing your comments, I appreciate you may not grasp this is a discussion forum, you have your observations, I have mind, shocking concept, perhaps you'd like a forum were you can go off into a tangent and have not debate or questioning of your opinions 🤔

Off to the village shortly, I'll be sure to have my HiVis attire on. And you talk about going off topic and others being personal 🙄 Tut Tut, Boggles

God bless him he's just a wind up merchant!

I remember that fella pledging the house that'd fit 20- obviously Denis O'Brien innit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,337 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

I never suggested otherwise. I asked about that property too.

But a modernised 3 storey Victorian house in a "stunning" location in Surrey could be worth millions, I was curious to know who would have an empty property like that.

The OP is under no obligation to answer.

the reports of some of them happily engaging in welfare tourism is becoming an increasingly bitter pill to swallow

Now in your own good time, if you could link to these reports I would appreciate it.

To be fair, I wouldn't want to be critical of anyone who's pledged accommodation regardless of its size , actually they've not only shown incredible generousity and indeed astonishing patience.

My focus is and remains on policy (or lack of it), poor controls double standards, Hypocrisy etc.

Don't you know that 20% of Ukrainians here has some form of job now. Others are looking for work too. These people ain't gonna cost us a penny n will show up our layabouts with their work ethic.

Just on the off chance that it doesn't work out like that the government has pencilled in 3 billion cost for next year for them!

Do you mean Beasty the moderator who pledged his home for refugees ? Hardly a wind up merchant ? Or have I misunderstood your sarky post ?

Curious, how do you know what my personal circumstances are?

Regardless, I am very proud of how Ireland and its communities have supported these folks and others.

I am looking forward to seeing more arriving, they deserve a chance to live in safety and if any decide to remain after the war they are more than welcome

As my late granny used to say ' There's none so blind as those who do not wish to see' I shall leave you in peace now and allow you to wallow in cess pool of your ignorance bliss ! Over & out

A handful of blokes made these decisions, not the millions of Irish people.

When the shite comes crumbling down, don't come to the Irish people with complaints. Had nothing to do with us.

Frankly, your personal circumstances are obvious, despite the anonymity afforded to you here. If you actually had dependents, for whom your priority is to ensure that they have the brightest possible future, you would be worried about the implications of this mass influx.

Instead, you spend your time trolling multiple threads and seem to get a kick out of trying to get a rise out of people with legitimate concerns. Your words and ideation here reveal everything about your personal circumstances. So whilst you look forward to many more 'folks' arriving, those of us with families to raise or with elderly relatives who need access to healthcare, worry about how this will impact our loved ones.

It'll be grand just doesn't cut it, no matter how many puff pieces you continue to spam across several threads.

Independent TD carol nolan asked Minister today about the current situation and mentioned the governments own report that excess amount of refugees poses a risk to social cohesion in the country to which the minister replied that her question poses a risk to social cohesion and that there will be no cap of the numbers coming in. A childish response but sure children would do a better job. Totally inept idiots.

He is an arrogant treasonous prick. Hell get his comeuppance yet?! He's selling out the country. Like a pig on animal farm.

An alternative viewpoint to yours is not trolling

The mad thing is that he somehow thinks that he's showing compassion, yet all that he's really showing is callousness towards the Irish.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov
