Well of the small few pro Russia Irish people I know that description fits them all to a tee. Topics they believe in(but can't debate beyond "you'll see!!") are; the "Great Reset", "Elites", the World Economic Forum, "mainstream media", anti vax, "big Pharma" and the like. They hoover up the Kremlin spin like, well a Hoover. And the Kremlin is happy to feed them. One chap a few weeks back was telling me about what's actually happening in Ukraine and from according to him "multiple sources". Every. Single. Source. was Russian.
You'd like to ask these people why they start with the fundamental belief that their news sources are any more predisposed to telling the truth than the ones they reject? Is their source (edgynews.com to give it a generic placeholder) any less interested in cultivating an audience and making money than any 'mainstream media' outlet?
Talk about a sitting duck
The advantage of fortifying an island in artillery and missile range of your enemy: It can't be sunk
The disadvantage: It can't evade. Then again, neither could Moskva despite being a lot more mobile 😇
So Germany haven’t been half as bad as the constant attacks on them in here. Quelle surprise.
The blundering and meandering from Scholz has not been helpful and played into the hands of Putin.
Europe needs a united approach to fcuk these Nazi cnuts out of Ukraine and back to the sh1t hole they came from
The symbolism here does not need explaining
And some analysis on how the war will go from here U.S. Officials Predict Path of War in Ukraine - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
I think both sides are valid here. On one hand, Germany is definitely trying to help and whilst it may not be providing the "sexy" stuff like helicopters or tanks, it is providing crucial logistical support which could very well be one of the deciding factors.
On the other hand, there's no denying that Scholz's vacillating, bureaucratic inertia, some rather shady characters and some less than helpful politicians have done their level best to make sure that Germany has repeatedly shot itself in the foot with a 155mm howitzer!
Should Germany do more? Absolutely, and I believe Germany has the capability to do more than it currently is, particularly when it comes to utilizing its defense industry. The CEO of one of Germany's old defence behemoths, I think Kraus-Maffei Wegmann, who also build the Leopard II, but don't quote me on that, recently said, that once the funding was there, they could have their old Cold War era production facilities up and running within weeks. However, there's a lot more to the German response than just delays and screwups and that deserves pointing out as well.
Scholz adviser turns heads with appeal to consider future Russian relationship
German chancellor’s foreign policy adviser urges Europe not to forget about its long-term relations with Moscow and to tread carefully toward China.
Did someone let the cat out of the bag here?
Some chatter on Russian mobilisation and rumours about Putin's health.
...
I'll happily admit I was wrong to an extent (though the data about deliveries seems to kinda fluctuate even after "confirmations") but even just in recent posts they're still, still acting like things will get back to normal soon so the Russians shouldn't be upset. The German people need to keep on top of their politicians and corporate interests. The business bunch will happily take the money for weapons and the like, it's the rest who will be pushing for their own interests and as quick as possible a return to "normal". The politicians will do whatever's expedient for themselves at the time.
Some russian soldier had his phonecall intercepted, twice and now he and his girlfriend are terrified
I didn’t see the first phone call, I don’t know what happened in that but from this call I don’t see why his girlfriend should be getting abused for the crimes of her boyfriend. He appears to treat her like shiit too and blames her for his own loose lips.

One thing is for sure,he on thin ice
She was giving him "permission" to rape Ukrainian women in the first phone call.
There is meant to be a lot of tension In German Govt circles now between those who want a result for Russia, the Scholz faction and those who see Germany having its reputation destroyed in Eastern Europe and wider afield.
Berlin is now coming under significant pressure from Washington, London and within Germany to switch sides and back Ukraine in a meaningful way.
Anything that maybe a game changer for the Ukraine is meeting incredible resistance.
Well then that changes everything. Both made for one another
There used to be a Map shown everyday on RTE of Ukrainian territory that Russia were occupying....
I havent seen this in weeks if not longer...I wonder why that is? I think it was from British Intelligence....
If it's like the BBC one it's likely because few screens are hi-res enough to show the changes in the last few weeks
Thanks...i got this most recent one off BBC...
Makes for grim viewing...Russia are taking a leaf out of Israels playbook...they're in it for the long haul....be very hard to shift them out of where they have taken.....
Most of the red needs to be a no-man's land for a long time after this.
Fair play to Lithuania, this move to enforce restrictions on the movement of Russian freight through Lithuania has seemed to really have annoyed the Russians
He sounds like a controlling creep (and they're not even married yet) - blames her for everything and takes no responsibility on himself.
Sounds a bit like Putin tbh
I look at the map and ask myself who holds more of Ukraine right now, and the answer is obviously Ukraine, by a long way. The chatter on this thread at the start of the current phase of the Russo-Ukraine war was that the best Ukraine could do would be to bloody Russia's nose. Ukraine has been able to do quite a bit more than that so far and held Russia to an extent that wouldn't have seemed likely back then. The fall of Kyiv was predicted to happen quite imminently as the convoy rolled southward. I agree that war as a general practice is grimmer than most of us can imagine, but that map is nowhere near as red as we would have thought it was going to be three and a half months ago.
If Russia aren't willing to talk about reasonable compromise then the war will drag on. If Western governments are that concerned about the austerity being generated from this war, the options are to send more and better weapons or confront Russia directly (to the extend of driving forces back behind pre-Feb 24 lines at least, but not occupying any recognised Russian territory). Last time I saw a poll on the matter, Ukrainians didn't appear that interested in straight surrender.
A bit more of a back story is always welcome though.
