Yes you can, it says it even in the faq linked a few posts above
You can have a Smart meter installed and remain on your current non-smart tariff.
You can get a non smart tariff, you can not get a specific day/night tariff without a day/night meter.
That only applies to the 24 hour tariff, not d/n, as @DrPhilG mentioned
Honestly, I must have had this conversation 20 times on the PV Facebook page...
Had one guy the other day insist that he had a non-smart day/night tariff on a smart meter.
I asked the name of the tariff. He says "smart dual fuel"...
I still think it is best to avoid the smart meter where anybody has day night meter option. For me I was unable to and so am on smart plan since bord gais ev plan last year.
Currently with pinergy and again must stress this is only for anyone with decent solar and storage set up as would be unsuitable for many. With their fit at 13.5 since I joined them I am making currently average about 3e a day from them whilst paying them about 5c for usage a day and 61c standing charge a day. Obviously this will only be the case for about 6-8 months of the year but am hoping this will more than cover any night usage for charging batteries I will have in winter as their ev rate is 5c per kw.
An option possibly for some on smart meter plans to consider
What are the scalping (standing) charges like?
300 euro less than what I was on with bord gais. 225 for the year (62cent per day) so actually lot better than all smart plans and most day/night ones.
But again this only works so well if you have decent storage to avoid their day rate
Is that a 3 hour night rate though? 5cent is a great rate, especially with current increases
Fair phux for giving it a try !
Yep from 2-5am
Worst case you can just pay contract break fee and walk away but can't see reason to at the minute. This month if carries on with same export it should be just short of 100 euro for fit. If you even said only for five months of the year that's a nice return against any likely winter costs
Only 3 hour night rate slot?
You'd need to have a 10kW battery charger 😂
This is great thanks for sharing. Feck the providers and switch when it suits you... 50 euro break contract fee when winter darkness sets in and then swap back when the summer fit kicks in.
No guilt the supplier is STILL making a profit off you.
Have 5kw charge discharge rate with my inverter so should put in just short of that with losses. Average winter usage here is 11-12kwh. Supplement by 2-6kwh generation in the worst months of December and should in theory be fine without touching day rate. Although with a couple hundred euro for fit payment in January it should pay for any mishaps along the way
Latest from Electric Ireland...
Thanks for your email.
Unfortunately there is no start date for the micro generation scheme and there is no rates and tariffs set yet for the micro generation scheme.
Kind regards,
Electric Ireland
Wasn't July1st the date that was set recently where all the providers had to be up and running ?
The irony of July 202(1) being a previous deadline isn't lost on me......
Yep supposedly was but regulator has been so off the ball on this. Thankfully the law has been passed and so all payments will have to backdated to Feb of this year but as to when they announce their rates is anyone's guess.
Bord gais early registration indicated July payment but nothing since.
Pinergy announced their rate but not payable until next January and backdated to Feb 2022
Have any of the providers made clear what happens if you move? Does the provider at the time of export still pay even if it's a different provider at the time of supposed payout?
I switched from bord gais to pinergy at the start of this month. Pinergy state they only pay from the date your switch (in my case June 1st)
As to what happens from Feb to June I'm unsure but by law bord gais should be paying me for those months.
Sorry for asking a dumb question that has no doubt already been answered, but it's after midnight and I'm tired.
In fact I've probably asked it before myself...
So if they're going to pay an estimated backdated payment for FiT to those who don't have a smart meter, do I need to do anything, register etc?
Or will I just get a back paid figure based on my system size without doing anything?
Yeah, that's my understanding, but my money is on them not paying anything. Esp when they don't have to.
If they set the rate to 0, there is nothing to be paid
do I need to do anything, register etc?
you need to have an NC6 submitted to ESB, which your installer should have done. That’s the only registering required.
I'm sure he did that alright, presumably I wouldn't have received the grant if he hadn't?
That was my understanding too, but then again maybe they only needed a photograph of the completed form itself...
Is there any way to check if an NC6 was submitted? I wasn't availing of grants, and it was the regular sparks who wired my house who did all the work.
Email ESB Networks and ask them if they received the NC6 form for your MPRN.
I did this a while ago and initially they didn't receive it, so I got onto my installer about it and a week later Networks mailed me again to say they'd received it.
Submission (or lack of) of the NC6 form will have no bearing on the SEAI grant application process as they are 2 completely separate entities.
I had to do this recently as it is a part DIY install and I sent in the NC6 myself. At some stage an ESB woman rang from Cork to say it was good to connect but I never got anything in writing at the time.
So I emailed them and got the following:
Good Evening,
Thank you for your email. Apologies for the delay in responding to you, we are currently working through a high volume of queries
I can confirm that the connection details for MRPN 123456789 has been updated to reflect a maximum export capacity of 6 kva.
Please contact me again if I can be of further assistance.
Kind regards
Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if there was no grant that no NC6 was needed to be submitted.
To be eligible for the feed in tariff (if it happens), do I also need to now fill out the newer NC6-01-R7?
My original NC6 was hopefully submitted in 2017 by my electrician.
Any info yet on feed in tariffs for Electric Ireland / Energia / SSE etc etc ? Thought details were supposed to be released in June
July supposedly.
