Was hoping I wouldn't have to set this up this year :)

Anyway, after 6 months out of the pool, I started back into it this week. Dont expect the sea swimming to get near last years levels, but good to track it none the less

Weather problems and not able to get boat available. They are hoping to get them out this week but there will be one at the 1K mark any way. Checked weather forecast and its looking good high weather temps. and low winds from north east.

The 1km marker will be something at least.

Found it hard swimming away from Blackrock without the buoys. Had to stop frequently enough to get an idea of how far I've gone. At least on the way back, I can spot the tower.

At least having the 1km marker will allow me to set a target.

Yeah, conditions were ideal. Finished the 4km in 79 minutes. Happy enough with that. Cut off was 95 minutes, so in good shape.

My biggest fear now is the long distance training swims. Need to do an 8km swim in about 4 weeks. That's going to be tough

Good and bad Martin.

Started off fantastically, but then some boat issues, and the outgoing tide had a big impact on me.

Ended up going to far west initially, and had to swim directly into the outgoing tide for probably close to 2 hours.

It will probably be the only time I curse the lack of wind on Galway Bay.

Completed in anyway. Fitness was never an issue, so happy with the training I undertook. It was just more down to lack of experience from my boat captain and myself

A lot of boats had the same problem including me and I have done the boat at least 14 times. I had my boat and swimmer pointed at the Mervue telecom tower for most of the swim and still went too far West but she finished. Well done for finishing.
