I reckon Eoin is gone on a two week bender to celebrate.

Delighted for them. €5 a month (plus vat) is great value for the amount of content, insight, laughs, they provide.

Holy moly how long ago is that photo in the article!

The men have aged gracefully in the meantime! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 457 ✭✭Obrieski

But also, fair play to them!

I'll happily continue to provide my fiver (plus VAT 😉) for many years to come - they provide a great overall service

€110k salary, plus director's fees, plus the extra money they get for the likes of their gigs on TV or columns/etc - they're all doing alright here. Makes me happy for them. I'm also pleased they still split things evenly...

This quote jumps out "They have succeeded in securing a place on people’s individual media habits. That’s the key.” Most of us are creatures of habit. I love sitting into my car after work, throwing on the podcast on the commute home. I would genuinely feel a void in my life if I didn't have Second Captains. I listen to a wide variety of podcasts, and a few other sports related ones, but the first one I always go to is SC as I know what I am getting is excellent 9.5 times out of ten. For the price of a pint it is an incredible service.

Depressing that the price of a pint is €5+VAT but we are where we are...

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

Jamie got his Simpsons reference in early this week.

I do agree with him on the 'He's not that type of player' nonsense.

Jamie and his Simpsons references has to be a deliberate thing at this point. I think apart from one episode he's referenced the Simpsons every time I've heard him... And I'm ok with that 😁

I thought this was something to wind Ken up at first but he's really doubling down on it

I like the Irish as a way to end out the show.

Sure it'll be gone after today when Eoin is back anyway.

Fair play to the lads, they deserve the rewards they are getting. I might be wrong but arent there 6 of them involved, I wonder do they split it equally and they are even hiring more staff too which is good sign

If OTB followed the same model they wouldnt make it past one month

No doubt there will be more fawning over Saint Steph again next week 🤮

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,092 ✭✭✭cmac2009

Some of the OTB crew started a fee based Golf podcast, seems very niche but it still seems to be going. Can't remember when it started. Suspect costs are fairly low considering the plethora of podcasts these days, so even if they aren't making much from it they'd probably still continue.

Klay Thompson taking inspiration from the Father Ted Golden Cleric speech was cringy and funny at the same time.

Are the lads on their laethanta saoire? No sign of a new pod in my feed today...

I know he's taking the piss, but I agree with Ken on the moving of the All-Ireland finals forward.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,740 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Well it was done because of a media movement of more respect for a fixed calendar between the county and club game. It’s wasn’t like the gaa wanted to do it. It costs them money.

what I found interesting is that Ken seemed to think he could get hurling final tickets easily. Curious how someone who has never gone to a hurling game before would be that confident.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,477 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

I'd say none of the lads would have any problem getting tickets for anything - they'd have contacts all over the place, especially for sporting events.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,740 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Still though, curious who exactly would be their go to guys for all Ireland tickets. They aren’t easy to get a hold of and I don’t think the lads have that many contacts among current players outside of Dublin footballers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,800 ✭✭✭✭dastardly00

Ken writes for The Irish Times. He'd be able to get a ticket through them easily enough I would think. They probably have plenty of access to premium and corporate tickets

True that could be the source, not sure they have that many premium tickets, thought they’d be the reserve of industry’s that turn bigger profits, Paul Flynn being ex GPA CEO might make him a source as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,740 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Actually no current Dublin footballers but jack mccaffrey and Paul Flynn are recently ex Dublin players.

Neither of yesterday's shows are appearing on my Podcast feed still...anyone else facing that issue?

Never had issues with their shows before coming through!

The Second Captains feed says last updated on Friday on my app as well...using the normal Apple podcast app.

    Hopefully gets resolved soon!
