powerful speech by Putin in Petersburg. little sign of the decline so many posters here have identified.
Ukraine being closer to the EU in ten years time is mostly dependent on the EU sending mountains of weapons to Ukraine urgently. Candidate status is not useful or relevant at the moment.
I think it’s very useful and relevant. It would boost the population to know that they are fighting a war to be part of a democratic world away from Russia and a chance of a better life for their kids. It gives them a goal to strive to. It is a moral booster.
That could well be the case. But in any event, the West and NATO have always been working off the assumption that Putin will still be President in, say, two years' time. Nobody has factored in that he will be leaving any time soon.
They are being ethnically cleansed. They don’t need some promise in the future for motivation.
Not sure where you see power in that. I see a crazed lunatic who has stolen from his people. An insecure tyrant driven by jealousy, who uses that to fuel his hatred of the west. The west is affluent and prosperous, the possibility of which he has stolen from his people. And his ranting had only ramped up since he went on this crusade, since he see's that once again his all powerful 'military' is nothing but a puffed up recreation of himself, sad and pathetic.
Putin is not power. Putin is everything he himself despises. Weak, jealous and full of ego.
An interspecies polyamorous relationship.
Goatf*cking is about Kadyrov's level.
🤣
Would that be the much anticipated "Russian Davos", featuring such economic lumunaries as...the Taliban (I'm not even joking)
The man is clearly kept upright by whatever steroid treatment he's on, he looks like sh*t so I can't for the life of me try to figure out why you'd try to puff up his appearance.
Candidate status is both useful and relevant right now and in the future, Do you think Ukraine will be closer to Russia in ten years time? 😂
Johnson is back in Kyiv again. In fairness, Zelensky seems to get on well with him.
Yes, if they don’t get the weapons they need they could very well be part of Russia, or at least a large chunk of Ukraine will.
There's a lot to like in that relationship from Zelensky's perspective.
The UK are giving them loads of weapons and aren't funding Putin's war machine.
Unlike his previous guests.
No, you’ve got that wrong, I wouldn’t bet on Crimea being part of Russia in a years time let alone ten years time…tbh, will there be a Russia in ten years time? Russia has overnight lost almost everything it gained through perestroika and glasnost, it could have been a successful trading partner of the EU but instead it chose to go rogue. Russia will not be trusted for a lot longer than 10 years or even 20+
Russia is crumbling and this will not improve anytime soon.
I agree with that possibility but it is completely dependent on getting the weapons and training to Ukraine fast. The EU are weak on that and the candidate status given to Ukraine is for PR reasons only in my opinion.
The existence of a fair chunk of Ukraine is truly under threat at the moment, I don’t believe Russia will give up what they have seized through non military means.
Russia has all but admitted that sanctions are hurting and hurting bad. By the end of the summer, Russia will be back in the 1970s.
The EU may have been weak at the start but is going from strength to strength and will continue to do so. Russia is crumbling and that is irreversible, look at the article posted by Dan above. What Russia has lost in the last three months took the previous three decades to build and all of it has been destroyed by the greed of one man literally overnight.
Russia is a busted flush!
If CNN article is accurate it is exact same drivel that so many that post in this forum absolutely fawned over before Putin went off a little off piste (see some early pages of thread praising Putin's leadership of Russia and prior speeches about Western degeneracy and decay + collapse etc.).
Hopefully some of them will have wised up a bit since Russia & Putin took the mask fully off.
Putin is such a mass murdering cnut.
Well, Putin's anger is one sure-fire way of telling us that he knows he is up the spout. Nothing angers a paranoid showoff more than having his personal audience diminished and reduced to a few outside cast-offs. Vanity is truly a one-way ticket to self-destruction, as Oscar once said.
If Putin called a nuclear strike, even a limited one, and the west didn't respond in kind, that would guarantee even more nuclear strikes from Vladimir, I'd say. Its the only language he understands.
If Ukraine needed any reassurance this is it. Russia as each day goes by is going backwards and here again, it admits it.
Quote 'Russia is what it is'
The president of Kazakhstan with some words for putin to think about at the forum in St Petersburg today..."we do not recognize either Taiwan, or Kosovo, or South Ossetia, or Abkhazia. And, apparently, this principle will be applied in relation to quasi-states, which, in our opinion, are Luhansk and Donetsk"
In Kherson,Grannies with pies are spies
Calling Putin a cnut is absolutely uncalled for! He utterly lacks the warmth an depth for that!
And those comments from the Kazakh President have to sting, given Kazakhstan is basically Russia’s back yard.
Putin's right arm was flapping around during that 'chat' as he clasped his fingers. Still looks like he was having a good day....but probably also pumped up on the good stuff thanks to the best med care in the country I'd say.
Hard to tell what Putin's feeling. He's only got the one facial expression, like.
He smiles sometimes, more of a leer but that’s what Botox does to your face the vain bastard!
One of Putin's international men of mystery who was busted in Holland was installed in Trinity as a student for 4 years. Posing as Brazilian.
One must wonder is there many more where he came from lurking around Ireland.
Putin for so long was the smirking one; trolling and every word being hung on, it's really funny that suddenly he's the one on the backfoot, and in the states Trump being off Twitter means he's a bit the old guy shouting in the wind.
So prior to war starting there were circa 45 million in Ukraine 90% ethnic Ukrainians so say 40m Ukrainians…current estimate is that 4/5m have left… so putin has only to annihilate approx 35m to fully ethnically cleanse the country which is 3/4 times what hitler ‘achieved’.
The Kazakhstan stuff is curiouser and curiouser.
