Have you got an MCB on the inverter EPS output to generator switch? Would save you damaging inverter if you forget and turn on oven and hob etc.
I thought it would only draw as much as it could?
Everything loses power in the backup setting. Only thing on is the inverter.
I'm in a town, but new-ish area and some construction around. Had a few power cuts within the last year. For me it was a case of why wouldn't I get this option if I was spending that much money.
Perhaps there is a resettable fuse or something in the inverter, but I'd rather an MCB trip rather than test that theory if you attempt to draw more power than EPS output can supply.
I didn't think the inverter was supposed to generate PV electricity in a power cut?
Not sure it should. Very very small amount reading on the Solar PV there. The changeover switch was on backup, so no backfeed to the grid.
Inverter shuts off the supply when you pull more than what it can supply, (reacts way faster than a MCB would ever do)
Resets itself after a minute or so.
After the recent string of outages, I see Solis Cloud has been updated to v3.6.0 (web version, app not updated yet). This includes a new Operation Record option on the inverter screen. Looks like remote control functionality might be coming soon.
If the Inverter has an essential/backup load connection it will still provide power via this connection typically drawing from battery only, but there are ways with an isolating switch like the one posted above where by it can provide power to all the house and reenable fireman switches to let solar power also provide power and/or fill battery.
I might test it later on but do you need to configure the isolating switch in a special way for the PV to still generate power?
It would need to be configured so that when running on backup it enables the firemans switches to allow DC to flow from panels. If not you'll only be able to work off battery. This was something i discussed with installer and had him demonstrate as well to show what happens in power cut and how to enable/disable this.
I'm wondering is what happening that the battery backup is feeding the inverter input/output? I'm not really getting the fireman switch enabling?
I have a hybrid hence battery/inverter are essentially the same unit from my point of view. The fireman switches (might be wrong name - DC isolators basicaly) are powered via AC. once power to house is cut these prevent DC from the panels going to the inverter/battery. When my inverter no longer detects AC on its grid connection it goes into backup mode and provides power via a different output cable. this goes to my Grid/Nothing/Backup switch. Once i switch to backup the inverter/battery power house only without any grid (in this mode the there is no live connection between grid and house circuits). As part of the house circuits there must be the cables going to the fireman switches as once i go into backup they reopen and allow DC to feed battery and inverter.
Hi, wondering if i can get advice.Had a new install end of April(6kw panels-5kw Solis Hybrid-Eddie).Had installers come back and change the Solis Hybrid Inverter with a new one this week as it suddenly couldn't link with the battery.Everything has been working fine but, ive noticed when the battery gets to 100%,it then goes to constant discharge of 150w-200w .Even though i would hardly have any house consumption and the solar panels can cover everything it still will discharge all day and stay at 99% until solar can't cover the house and then will discharge as normal to cover house load in the evening.Waiting on Solis to come back to me,just asking on here if someone knows anything with this or had the same and its just the settings or a fault.
Thanks
Slapped 3 fans on the inverter and I have to say the temp dropped quite nicely, can see the nosedive at around 8pm when they went on 😁
There's definitely some gremlins in my system. Did some further testing on the backup with installer & solis, and ruled out settings issues.
Weirdly it seems to be discharging 300W~ constant once the battery charges, even if the solar will cover the house usage. Flat line discharge unless there's a peak like the kettle or something. I paused the eddi and the issue persisted but excess generation being exported.
The battery drain showed there even on backup but no idea where it was going. Solis guy said the standby on the inverter is only about 70W.
Sounds like I have the same problem as you, Solis came back to me.
"Currently there is no solution for your issue. It has been submitted to R&D for review. At a later time if there is a solution we will update your inverter to repair it. We apologize for the issue".
I would have thought this would shorten the battery life by constant discharge. If you hear of any solution, give us a shout and I will do the Same
Is that on the screen or in the app?
The screen gives the power measurements that the bms supplies, I realized that when I had my current shunt wired up backwards!
Both are showing it.
That's crazy! is it 300W also? I would seriously like to know where the hell it's going when the switchover is on backup. 😲
Going to have an answer to this shortly. The meter was read again during the week, 400 units lower than last time so next bill will be interesting
I think I've the same problem as you both.
When my batteries are full (displaying 100%) it appears on the app as 200W or so are discharging from the batteries when not needed, i.e., house load and hot water is covered, and excess is being exported to grid.
When you are getting Solar PV with a heat pump, is a diverter a good idea to get?
Should be OK without it but its a good DIY installation
Yep, thanks for that. Had it in one quote but not the other one so a decision to be made. Cheers
Anyone having issues with the Solis app since the updates, it's not showing any of the yields like Today yield, Imported energy, Exported energy and battery charge/discharge all showing 0. The Energy balance is showing readings of what's coming in and where it's going. The Total yield and earnings are static as well. Not sure how long it it's been like this but seems to be after the Solis updates the other day. The same on Pc and mobile.
I'm still sticking with the old solis home app.
Yes. Overview screen still showing correct details though.
I sent an Email off but going by the previous posters saying they are bad at responding I won't hold my breath. I suppose it's a wait and see what happens then or has anyone tried other options?
Same here. Waiting for someone to post
