It was obviously too much for him to criticise anything to do with the Religion of Peace so he invented some spurious wittering about climate change.

No great suprise that she hasn't the first notion about what Presidents should or shouldn't be doing. She has never struck me as particularly intelligent, notwithstanding her postgrad degree in environmental activism or spreading the contents of septic tanks over vegetables.
Perhaps he thought, mistakenly, that you were intelligent?
Ah, it's the latest model of eye-twitching angryman off the production line.
Wonder how long before this one short circuits and spazzes-out?
I give it a week.
Has he taken in any in the Mansion House where he lives?
It is the 95 room Aras, isn't it? Higgins claimed in 2011 that he'd only be a one term president.
Regards...jmcc
Wow, a lot of angry homeowners and ppl with a house to sell.
He did, got my vote then and subsequently abused my vote by reneging on that commitment.
Next time out we need to elect a homeless person with no houses as out president. Or should we elect a normal person with a 3 bed semi? Not really sure, but judging by this thread the criteria for president seems to be based on the number of houses you own (or have recently sold maybe)
So what? If enough people cared that he changed his mind then he wouldn't have gotten elected. It's democracy.
This pampered self righteous prick is the mirror image of Prince Charles over here- forever virtue signalling from his gilded ivory tower about every woke issue he can stick his nose in. D Higgins alone is a VERY good reason for getting rid of this office.
And if he’s “so worried” about housing, perhaps a he can donate his several properties for free to those that need them, or scrap the rental costs to existing tenants.
He’s never far from reminding me why I didn’t vote for this preachy arsehole despite overwhelming support from his political elite cronies. Such a shame Peter Casey was such a poor candidate- someone articulate could have really tapped into something
It's important to remember that boards was so sure that Peter Casey would have got elected based on polls here and he proceeded to get wallopped. It's not in anyway a reflection of the real world despite what they would like to believe.
"several properties"
How many arms do you have road high?
"several" he replies
But despite being a woeful candidate he came second and got a fair ole vote all things considered.
And just like the other 5 people in the race, he didn't get past the first count such as the arse-kicking delivered to them by Michael D Higgins, who some here are offended that he changed his mind in seeking a second term.
Had the while media and political establishment behind him- shock horror result really.
A truly dreadful President that apart from his occasional meddling in political affairs does or achieves very little. Just like his idol in cuba. In contrast to the professionalism and work ethic of the previous incumbent
As I said, the view of boards is one that is very far removed from the real world. It’s generally just full of excuses as to why their lives are so sh*t without looking a bit closer to home.
He’ll go down as one of the most popular Presidents of all time, despite what your ramblings say.
After Peter Casey got a ‘fair ol’ vote all the same’, the same experts were guaranteeing him a European/Dail seat and he lost in those elections as well (comprehensively in the latter) because they couldn’t be told the Aras was a protest vote by those who have a clue. He’s the type of perennial loser that the majority of boards stick their necks out for to justify their own **** takes on society.
The presidency hasn’t evolved in terms of his constitutional remit changed where it’s ok for a President to be dictating policy and attempting to influence and direct a democratic government… so he has said something wrong, it’s black and white :) and he is NOT entitled to make those comments in public. :)
Ah the usual accusations of obsession from the guy posting most on the thread. Brilliant.
The FF/FG/Labour candidate. Without FF and FG backing him and if they had run their own candidates, things would have been very different. Over 50% of the electorate never even bothered to vote. Less than 25% of the electorate voted for him. And now the little landlord, who evicted students so that he could make 100K profit from selling a house according to newspaper reports, is causing problems for FFG by waffling about housing. It is just another load of virtue signalling for the gullible. The ingrate owes his election to FF/FG. Perhaps they should be more careful in their choice of candidate next time.
Such is the power of the media here. Higgins gets overwhelmingly positive coverage from the media.
56 percent of people, me included voted for none of them.
Once again so what? You are really clutching at straws here.
He was proposed legally. Was there was some FF or FG candidate that you wanted to vote for or something? Nothing to do with mdh
Turnout is irrelevant, anybody who wanted to vote could and nobody held a gun to their head when they did. Sure SF only got 15% of the electorate by your logic and thought they won the election??
The last sentence is really weird, you think a candidate should "owe" the parties who put them forward? Not a good road to be headed down I think
The President is not a mute and if he's said something wrong when can we expect to see the Paddywagon with Supreme Court judges to cart him away from the Aras?
You fundamentally don't understand the constitution if you think that this is the 1950s and the Presidency can be bullied by a thug FF/FG Minister of Posts and Telegraph in a cheap suit.
I'd recommend you sit in on a constitutional law class when they cover the presidency.
This thread reads like a collective mental breakdown.
Google is your friend.
"....things would have been very different".
The plaintive refrain of disappointed losers since elections began.
The nominations closed, the campaigns were run, the voting took place and the counts concluded.
MDH won easily, time to move on.
Haha very good. We already have the wicked truth Dorothy.
The craythur has two properties to his name - a family home in Galway and a flat in Dublin. A regular Baron de Rothschild he is. That's what the eye-twitching angrymen on the thread have characterised as "several" and "many" and are losing their sh*t over. Are you bothered by it as well?
Sad sacks to a man.
Ah the 'meedja' line. Didn't take long.
The 'worst President ever' wouldn't have been re-elected if that view stood up in any way with reality. Fact is he got re-elected on the first count.. against 6 other candidates.
Smoked them, such as his popularity.
*eye twitches* AhhhhhHHHHhhhhhHHHhhh!!!!
Still, he's made out well multiplying pensions. Newspaper columnists have been going on about it for years.
He's 81 years old with another three years on his term so his retirement period will be a lot shorter than most people's (assuming he doesn't live to 120).
Perhaps he used the ladies toilets in the Aras when no one is around?
It would be nice if we could elect a no hypocrite next time- the issues isn’t the fact he is an extremely wealthy public figure but the fact he’s lecturing others on the issues surrounding housing from his ivory tower. That’s pretty hard to stomach
