So I suppose its fair to say,they've some neck to be giving out about the Fianna Fáils raffle fund raising...
I am obviously not allowed to reply to certain posters but I will try to give a brief explanation of the political party fundraisers for anybody who may not be quite au fait with how these things work.
A permit from the Gardai allows any organisation (Sinn Fein, blueshirts, soldiers, Uncle Tom Cobley) to run a raffle with a maximum ticket value of €10. This is what Sinn Fein did/do, so there is absolutely no issue with it, permit granted, €10 a ticket, Bob's your uncle.
The soldiers tried a swizz of going for lottery licence charitable status so that they could charge €50 a ticket and got caught with their fingers in the cookie jar. If they had gone for the Garda permit/€10 a ticket there would be no issue.
I hope that this clarifies the situation for anybody who might be unfamiliar with how the system works. This post is not meant to be uncivil to anybody.
Why are sinn fein banging on about raffles when they literally hold raffles themselves every year? They had a national draw last November like? And they aren't doing it for charity either??

Irelands government gets a bigger windfall relatively than the UK from electricity as it owns a large amount of generation and the entire transmission network
That fund needs to go to cost of living mitigation
The seanad debate discussion on radio ones drivetime had the SF spokesperson saying we couldn't afford FG's proposals yet demanding more than them be done

Of course their main joy to look forward to is not fixing things,its turfing the current lot out which is an acceptable want from an opposition but how an SFF government could remotely be considered as that is beyond me

The government profits from this and are currently getting a windfall from it
There is no reduction for the windy days when more than half our power may be from wind
Thats all available new funding for the governments spending power to mitigate the cost of living rise,though their own(government that is) costs are up too obviously

Bloody hell - no electric company in Ireland has to source power via the ESB, NONE, is there a requirement here to post stuff that bears no relation or resemblance to reality.
I'd agree that targeted measures should be used to regulate obscene profit taking
Ironically the Tories are doing exactly that in the UK with a windfall tax on energy companies to fund cost of living supports
Here essentially every electric company has to source power via the ESB so the government has a continous windfall tax via its dividend,vat and corporation taxes on the sector and separately from the exponential growth in petrol and diesel tax revenue
Theres probably a couple of billion available for more help
Long since time the state took a more vested interest in essential services and supplies and set price controls on electricty,food,fuel,internet,housing, healthcare (should be free),childcare,etc

The Seanad Eireann cost of living debate was discussed on drivetime today on RTE where we had the SF spokesperson say that we couldn't afford what FG proposed doing and in the same sentence saying they should do more..
