Terrible loss of life, but to me clearly self defense.
I'm very relieved for the accused.
Awful thing to happen, loss of life, especially a young one that has scope to change for the better. But there has to be an understanding by people who instigate these kinds of incidents that there can be consequences. You can't put people in threatening situations and expect them not to react.
Tragic case. Sounds like a group of teenagers were duped into getting involved in a fight they knew nothing about but for the wrong side.
It sounds like Josh Dunne’s involvement was fairly minimal also. From what I’ve read, he only seemed to get involved when his friend was stabbed, and that led to his death.
The delivery driver absolutely rightly found not guilty though based on the evidence I’ve read. Hope he can move on in peace.
Do you really think this is an appropriate way to talk about a woman and mother who has buried her child. “Her grubby hands?”
I thought the judges comment that life isn’t lived frame by frame revealed the absurdity of making cctv such a central part of the case. A traumatic confrontation, outnumbered and facing a beating….jury called it right. Bigger question is why policing isn’t proactive and deterring thefts and street fights.
Impeccable reasoning there Fred, kudos. Do enlighten us further when you have the time.
Majority of the vote in that area was split between Greens, Fine Gael and SocDems. Yes Mary Lou topped the poll but your post is utter scutter.
Whatever, I've left it to the mods.
Trying to turn a thread about a murder into another one of your political barfing sessions is par for the course with you.
@walshb
” A young teen is dead. A family devastated.”
Entirely his own fault. Why do you expect people to have sympathy?
...
Keep your pants on, lad.
Sad case all around but I feel justice was served. iirc the 16 year old Josh and his friends didnt steal the bike but they came across the resulting fight and got involved when they shouldnt have, they hopped in on the side of the lad who had stolen the bike. He bit off more than he could chew when a knife was produced. Its still a tragedy for his parents, lots of teenagers get involved in fights but it doesnt normally end in their death.
I feel for the two Brazilian lads as well, the fact one of them was carrying a knife shows how much threat they feel in the East Wall area. It is only down the road from the quays where another Brazilian Deliveroo rider was knocked off his bicycle and killed in a hit and run by a bunch of teenagers. The defendant was in real danger of being kicked to death by this bunch of teenagers so he had every right to defend himself.
All in all justice was served but still a tragic set of events.
No surprise here. There’s rarely any balance in these situations. A young teen is dead. A family devastated. But people who don’t even have all the facts rushing to gloat almost about death here. Weird!
Oh ffs,
Is there any thread where you don't try to shoehorn in your political hobby horses?
There's probably a thread somewhere on boards about Meringue Pie recepies and you swing by uninvited to go on a rant about Mary Lou McDonald or Richard Boyd Barrett.
Give it a rest would you? You're as big a head-the-ball politically as anyone you claim to oppose.
Wasn’t the narrative at the time that he was innocent and tried to defuse the situation.
I remember the ‘bleeding heart brigade’ were in scolding anyone who said the lad got what he deserved.
“It is understood Josh was attempting to stop the fight when he was fatally stabbed.” - The journal Jan 2021
From Ballymun(?) in east wall during a 2km lockdown.
although the guy was acquitted, he still has to live with the event. For some people PTSD can be debilitating.
I am looking forward to hearing the aggrieved mother’s lament the outcome of the trial in any media outlet she can get her grubby hands on. I am sure her version of events will be compelling and heart wrenching.
Dunno but the media initially reported it as an a little angle who intervened like a good samaritan and wound up dead, I'm assuming the evidence painted a different picture
We don’t live in this world now. Cross-party support is usually required. All it takes is for the usual dissenting voices to scupper.
and in my view the real dangers are the anti establishment crowd.
I do agree with your last paragraph!
As above , not an excuse when living her e though.
And who is in Govt for as long as I can remember because it's not SF or PBP?
Come off it with that guff.
FF/FG and GP have the current mandate and they should absolutely take the action required irrespective of what SF or PBP or any other party think.
It’s the likes a these anti establishment SFs/PBP parties that are a huge part the problem when decent society and law enforcement try eradicate and fight these feral scum that terrorise people. You can bet your bottom dollar if gardai came down heavy, these crowds be slating gardai for being thugs and too heavy-handed.
and if judges handed down proper stiff sentences, they too would be slated.
I'm not making any general commentary on the case, I'd be inclined to agree with the opinion of the jury in a very difficult case.
But the above post is really very ugly indeed.
You'll probably lose the head reading this, but you have cause to have a think about what you typed there.
I agree about that fear part....but I don't think giving them military training would help things...
The feral scrotes won't stop until 1) Free legal aid system is reformed and 2) The Garda are supported by being given the resources and mandate to become more heavy handed.
Dublin hasn't even reached its worst yet in this slow and steady decline. Lads and ladies currently out on the streets with 150+ convictions. Sends an awful message of a very weak justice system. Great for solicitors each time one of them comes through the door. And believe me solicitors and some of these scrotes are on first name terms they see each other that often.
Correct outcome imo.
Some nasty little scumbags might think twice about attacking random people going about their daily lives/jobs peacefully.
Good to hear it but she still would have had the final say whether or not to go ahead with this case or not back when he was charged.
The scrotes mother said on FB that she will seek justice for her son until her dying day
**** him and his scumbag mates
She should have brought him up better
HIm being a “talented”footballer doesn’t mean he is not a scumbag
That’s not an excuse when living here, though.
Some of those teens were charged with offenses.
A rare and welcome occasion of the rights of decent working people being vindicated over those of scumbags. Wish we saw more of it. The only option available now for anyone who wants to walk the streets of Dublin without fear of being being attacked by scum is to take self defence training.
While we Irish don't carry knives to cut fruit other nationalites probably do.Cultures differ.
