Have to say I find it very interesting that they went for a murder charge in this case when manslaughter was a stretch. Have to wonder why they went for it. Along with not calling certain witnesses.

Yes, was thinkin similar, but you can be charged with murder for a couple reasons. Malice aforethought doesn't always have to be so clear. The DPP may have felt that the killer had options to not pursue and not engage and not use weapons that can end life. You can (in the moment) be a murderer. You don't have to have time to plan.
The man had a knife and used it to end a life. I can see the prosecution's side here...
It's a tragedy for the kid to be sucked into all of that. Occasionally followed it and the gang factor seemed at the core of these two men defending themselves. The case needed to be brought but there were so many chaotic elements to it that IMO it could never have found for murder.

I thinks it's crazy how little value the DPP places on the lives of hard working, decent people.
They rather have seen two working men beaten to death than successfully defend themselves.

The certain witness who robbed tge bike originally would probably do more damage than anything else to the prosecution.
It should be the end of it. They've been acquitted unless the DPP sees fit to appeal. Judging by the detail they went into in prosecuting them and the jury response there doesn't seem to be much scope for that.

I really would love for people in court to have to stand over what they say. "They were just punching you a knife was an over-reaction and therefore murder". Alright so, let's see he gets on with half a dozen teenagers in front of everyone, just for the record like.

Attacks on delivery drivers in the City Centre area was going on for months and widely covered over social media, it was going to come to a head at some stage when zero was being done, this is the result of that for better or worse, it was going to be one side or the other. People shouldn't have to be put in a position where they feel they require a weapon to protect themselves while doing a days work.

They still wouldn't have been found guilty on the evidence. It was a needless tragedy caused by other actors.

Agreed, justice has been served, and the lad has been cleared. These gangs of feral teenagers need to be stopped though, the news is full of articles about them all over the country

Yeah I was wondering if there would be a manslaughter charge too but couldn't see it mentioned. It's actually shocking how few murder convictions ever happen in this country.
The problem with this country is that a gang of hard men teens decide to attack a single person out trying to make a living on their own. You defend yourself youre up on an assault/ manslaughter/murder charge.
The law should absolutely allow for self defence in a case where its more than one on one and in this case justice was absolutely correct.
I dont know if this is going to change things going forward. The man had a knife he used to cut "fruit". I dont know a lot about the case so ill believe the consensus here that justice was served but this does seem significant.
The jury had the option of not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.
He told the jury to consider each of the four counts separately and that any verdict they reach must be unanimous.
In relation to the murder charge there are three possible verdicts: guilty of murder, not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter, or not guilty.
It appears he spent the last 18 months in prison waiting for the trial, I assume he will get compensation for that loss of liberty?
The way I see things is that if someone attacks me then until they're immobile they're still attacking me. It's a pity the law doesn't protect victims in that way but hey, **** us right? 😂

Id be inclined to agree with the OP , It was right to take the case in the context but i also think it was the correct outcome ,

the situation requires much more resource and manpower poured into city center to make it safer for everyone , decrease fear and increase confidence.
Really happy for the guy. He was just a guy out doing a job, went to try and retrieve a stolen bike for a friend and defended himself from villains. Really wish him well for the future.
