Down near the old Beru factory (now vaccination centre)
The road from the Forge Cross to the Ballybunion road closed today for 8 months. This is for the construction of a new bridge & bypass.

DV8 have taken over the unit Golden disks were in and now making it into a much bigger store.
Are Golden Discs gone? Or moved to a new location? Shame if they have left Tralee.
Also, any Greenway news? Will it ever happen......😕
Communication from whoever's involved is absolutely dismal.
I believe they're moving up to the old Lifestyle unit
Thanks!
Hope that move works out for them.
Must be a relief for you Tiger
Any news on Meet me at Phillies, anytime I've tired to go there it's been closed, the apps aren't taking orders (Uber and Just Eat) and there has been no posting on Facebook in a few months...
I don't know if Golden Disks are actually going to reopen. They were supposed to but I've heard its not happening now.
That's strange! No notice on their social media that they aren't open. Last post was in April and said their app wasn't working.
Mark Leen (aka Elvis!) has opened a little coffee shop opposite Shaws, 'Nu Place'. Nice to see some life back in that old building. Hopefully it does well for him. There's a bit of competition around there now with another coffee shop just down on the corner by the old Abbey and Yummys just around the corner. No shortage of coffee shops in town!
That'd be a pity, although I can't complain too much as I myself haven't bought music in a physical format in maybe a decade or more!
Getting something into that unit though is really needed to bring some life back to that stretch of Bridge St. Hopefully something happens with the old Dunnes unit now too.
It would have been good to have something go in there. I did hear that Elverys are going into the old Dunnes building, but I don't know if that's true.
Yeah, that's been rumoured a while now. Hopefully it comes to pass.
I haven't heard what entertainment for the Rose of Tralee festival is going to be on? Seems quite late and nothing has been announced about what will be on?
Yeah I noticed a "To Let" sign still on that Lifestyle window last weekend and was surprised considering I had heard a good while back that Golden Discs was opening there in supposedly a couple of weeks. I know they talk about a vinyl record resurgence but I'd say music shops surely must struggle in the streaming age! Like above, it must be the noughties since I last bought a physical album!
Does anyone remember what the name of the bar was in the old Abbey Gate hotel (now Ashe hotel)?
Its at the tip of my tongue but I can't quite remember it!! That will drive me mad today! lol
It's driving me crazy, nobody seems to be able to remember what it is.
The market place
Someday the Indo will have an article about something positive happening in Tralee. Until then:
That doesn't ring a bell. I could have sworn it was something else as well. And there was an off-licence in there at one stage too.
Yeah, doesn't feel right to me either but I posted the question on Tralee do you know and they are saying the old market bar also. I can still remember the musty smell in there.
On Google Maps - it only goes back to 2009 and it was called the old market bar at least in 2009, I wonder was there a name before that? I doesn't sound right to me either.
Yes it was the Old Market bar not Place. I think the reason it doesn't register too much was that most people ended up eventually calling it the Abbeygate bar? I remember it opened in 1994 and was so popular then. Packed out every weekend night even though it was a huge bar to fill But then all of a sudden, it fell out of favour and became very dead. I think McDaids pub in Benners(prior to Deacon) became the new "in" place.
What a 90s throwback!!
so the in place went from the market bar to
Mcdaids and then 'The old oak '.The old oak used hold some crowd ,mighty spot ,a shame to see lying idle so long ,It was gone well before recession became popular in bars never heard why it stayed closed ,great memories there mighty spot!!
The smoking ban killed the Old Oak as there was no outdoor area. Closed soon after AFAIK.
There s a new Italian restaurant opening in the old Mozart unit on Ashe street.
Great news on the jobs front for Tralee.
