Why are the commentators saying that deliberately holding up other cars in qualifying is perfectly ok when it’s clearly against the rules and there is so much precedent for drivers getting penalised for doing so?

Alonso with shithousery that was pretty unnecessary. Haven't seen the run up the escape road but if it was more silliness he should cop on.

Don’t see how Alonso can possibly justify that after how much he kicked up a fuss and ultimately gained from a stewards decision after what looked like a much more genuine error at Monaco 06
That was far too close for checo. No need to be that close to the wall. Vettel did well to get it back to the pits and won’t do a stroll.
When ya see how cautious teams usually are in so many cases I just can't get my head around Ferrari and Red Bull putting their cars out there at full tilt for no reason.

Sounds like the Mercedes team were telling Lewis to go faster and the stewards will look at it after the session.

Well Hamilton was going slow in that replay.
Strange there from Norris.
Hamilton was going slow but Norris just stopped behind him and wouldn't overtake him.
They could of just drove past Hamilton as he was so far off the line.
That looked ridiculous from HAM, I can’t see how he wouldn’t have a pen coming his way if he was as slow as the footage made it look!

And everybody here would be giving out about him whinging and saying he should just go past him.
Hamilton is going unnecessarily slowly, but there is literally nothing stopping Norris from driving past him instead of just driving up behind him.

With the Red Bull top speed advantage it should be easy to pass Leclerc and take a 1-2
The speed Red Bull have will be hige on that straight, with DRS, they should overtake with some ease.

Same as Lewis could have passed Max in Saudi last year instead of deciding to crash into the back of him.

Looking forward to tomorrow, hopefully the bulls get past handy enough. Another dominant showing from Russell over Hamilton too, was that down to a tow I wonder or just a better lap.
I have to say it’s a real treat to see all four top drivers pushing to the absolute maximum on every lap, which has been happening all season but is particularly noticeable at street circuits with the walls closing in like Baku and Monaco. It’s such a change from the majority of the hybrid era races being won by dominant cars being driven nowhere near their limits.
