Leo Varadkar slaps down Simon Harris over ‘navel gazing’ comments
Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris viewed within FG as leadership contender Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has slapped down Simon Harris in a clear sign of simmering tension between two of the most high-profile ministers in Fine Gael. Minister for Further and Higher Education Simon Harris last month launched a thinly veiled attack on Mr Varadkar, saying that “we don’t need navel gazing or debates or workshops or focus groups”.
Tensions rising 🤔🤔
Two wasters. Hopefully they cancel each other out.
Hopefully, interesting discussion on Liveline line affecting pensioners buy a decision Enda Kennys government made, I sense FG TD'S might be running for cover as I type, outrageous, seemingly pensions raided, one 90 year old, near blind pensioner was on he's loosing over €1000 per year.
This is interesting...
Simon Coveney’s brother ran five-star Ritz-Carlton in Moscow remotely from Ireland following Ukraine invasion
He must be one of those Putin loving lefties.
We know various property investment bodies were sold on investment in Russia. Gino Kenny strikes again!
And on and on...
Tony Coveney’s brother Patrick Coveney recently left his role as chief executive of convenience-foods manufacturer Greencore after 13 years to run SSP Group, a food service company.
Another brother, Rory Coveney, is director of strategy at RTÉ.
TUT TUT 😳
Probably posted something about an end to cronyism.
I did not know Crony Coveney had a brother high up in RTE. Not good.
Me too and head of Strategy no less 🤔🤔
If that 90-year-old pensioner was losing 1,000 a year then his actual pension pot was well over one million euro. Hardly living in poverty now, is it?
Non story there tbh...
.. and it has nothing to do with the government.
I suggest you actually listen back before making glib comments, the Pensioner has a private weekly private pension payment of €108 after government took €20 per week , 10 years ago , the levy was supposed to be Temporary although I admit don't know the full details. He presumably has a state pension also.
The Man is 90 Years of Age, almost Blind, Depends on meals on meals and that €20 the government took from him (over €1k per year) is the difference between him putting on his heating at 3pm or 6pm . He also worked in sales and started working at 16.
Million euro pot my arse.
FG Government to and this Pensioner not alone , I doubt Enda Kenny or Michael Noonan have to worry about what time they put their heating on 🙄
Then the old man on liveline is not telling the truth as that is not how the levy worked, at all at all....
The levy was taken out of the total equity of the pension, not the weekly outgoings of said pension....
You got suckered into a nice tall tale alright!
We'll see about that and by all accounts so will FG TD'S
The figures were broken down on a yearly weekly basis for the purposes of how it effected the Pensioner, I never said anything about how the levy was taken .
Your immediate assumption a 90 year old goes on national Airways and lies , really say more about you .
It's there in black and white in the article you shared.
The levy was introduced at a rate of 0.75% of the total pension pot and reduced down to 0.15% for 2014-2015
The pensioner on liveline described his private pension being 128 euro a week, where he claims the levy took 20 euro off him
Tell us all, how 0.75% of a levy actually is a 16% levy....?
You're the expert here, give us the breakdown.
Your clearly on silly games duty today .
I've not gone into how levy worked and stated quite clearly I know very little about it but commented on how it was brought up by a 90 year old pensioner and how it's affected him on a weekly basis over a number of years . It was shocking
You infact claim to be the expert and made an absurd notion this man was sitting on a €1 million pension pot .
You don't need to take my word for what was said, discussed and broken down, you can either play back the podcast (last 15 minutes) or pop over to the live line thread and see the comments.
But of course it's not really about a 90 year old blind man struggling to heat his home on your mind at all, its the defence of a previous FG governments decision at all costs .
I'm happy to supply a link to the podcast if your struggling to find it although you've clearly little interest other than these silly deflection games.
Is that €108 in addition to his contributory pension, or does he get the non-contributory pension means-tested as well?
To be honest, I would like to see the hard figures first.
I believe the Man has private pension paying 108 per week after the deduction re this levy, I presume he has a state pension also.
So just to be clear .
I brought up a quite shocking story on live line earlier, I never claimed to be an expert on this levy introduced by a former FG government but linked to that levy in question.
That was greeted with accusations of Lies, €1 million pensions pot and being Suckered.
The Man (90 years of age, very coherent and clearly truthful raised how this levy had affected him over a number of years, the cost of living crisis had clearly exasperated his situation. The amounts were broken down , Yearly and weekly to explain what he's lost.
The best thing people can do, if they've any doubts and perhaps better understand what was discussed, listen back,
It's roughly the last 15 minutes.
So you cannot answer the simple basic question.....
Right.
Caught out again posting little stories that don't have much truth to them.
Story is right, as it's a story, not a fact. But at least you admit that you know next to nothing about pensions or levys or the like... that's a good place to start.
Also, it wasn't the FG government, it was the FG/Labour government. FG has never been in government on their own.
Facts seem to be a rare thing around here these days.
I've nothing to answer for, especially to you, you've again made up imaginary points and clearly have not in fact read my op, instead jumping, yet again to outlandish assumptions and assertions.
Your the apparent expert on this Levy so let's see how the reactions play out .
Indeed they are in this world of make believe you seem to exist in.
Go on, I dare you to listen back to story, it's uncomfortable listening , especially for FG TD's Who'll no doubt be hearing about this in the coming days.
Heres me thinking FG considered Pensioners an important voting cohort 🤔
How does a 0.75% levy equate to 20e taken from 128e of a weekly pension?
The math doesn't add up. You explain it to us how this can add up?
FG TD's wont be concerned about people either making stuff up on Liveline or getting confused on Liveline...
But nice try for a little outrage.
Thoughts on this 🤔 👀
Poor Josepha , she's struggling
Touché
I find it interesting. I even said so in my comment. Thanks for letting us know your lack of interest. Pointless but appreciated.
Tough one. Law and order party's own legal eagle flouting the law by following FG policy.
Shocking really 😉
I listened to the liveline piece that will have FG TD's shaking in their boots...!!
The guy was an idiot, plain and simple.
He went off on a ramble about FG stealing his pension money since 2009.
Well, first of all FF were in power with the Greens in 2009, FG came in with Labour in 2011.
He then went on about money stolen from him, that today would be worth 13 grand or something.
"No mate, over a grand was taken from you, not 13 grand, it doesn't work like that!"
He then started giving out about lazy young people and dole lifers, the UNSC and affordable housing.....
He of course played the poor me, even though he has a state pension 253 plus his private pension top up of 108, bringing his weekly income up to 361. He gets a fuel allowance 8 months of the year plus a top up for being 'blind'.
The guy is an idiot. Perfect for a liveline whinge.
You picked a winner alright Dempo1
