Women's Singles ->

With 2021 throwing up the most random list of semi-finalists even for a WTA draw, this time it looks like Swiatek "should" prevail with the narrative being if someone can make it a contest with only WTA 26 Samsonova giving her a match in recent times.

Very dominant performance from Iga, felt for Gauff but hopefully she reaches more slam finals. She’s only 18 so still has room for improvement and at least she has the doubles final tomorrow against the reformed Mladenovic/Garcia partnership. I was very impressed with Coco’s maturity and she made a nice speech.

I like Iga and love how she hasn’t forgotten the situation in Ukraine and mentions it in all her speeches. I notice she’s getting a lot of flak for her delaying tactics in Coco’s service games. Coco takes very little time between points so maybe that was the reason but it’s something Iga seems to do in most matches.

Had to check that, and yes;

One toilet break per game sounds very limited when you think that they could ingest 2-3 litres water, or more depending on the weather and duration of the match..

yes especially as that match was trending to 7 hours if it was going to head to 5 sets

awfully humid conditions that affected the match for both sides (and made Nadal's time between points even worse it has to be said)

Ruud has different demeanour today, you can see it in the eyes. Was very measured in previous matches. Looks more rabbit in the headlights today. Wonder did he not sleep well?

Even the commentators can’t help but comment on Nadal’s ability to overcome supposedly serious knee and foot problems.

Still if Ruud can keep in it and move Nadal around, cracks might appear..

Go to backhand and wait for error or short ball -> Ruud's backhand isn't up to it so he looks bog average here

Another title for Nadal who had the stars align for him at this tournament in terms of other results, freak injuries and off-days

The men's game is in big trouble in terms of quality when these two go. At least it will be more competitive I guess.

Some very bitter and begrudging posters on here, epitomised by this post.

Agree that it was a poor spectacle but that was hardly Nadals fault. As for "stars aligning", Nadal had one of the hardest draws on paper, and although Zverev got injured (with Nadal being a set up I might add), he still had to go through FAA in 5 sets, and the world number 1 (and reigning champion) - who was resoundingly dispatched. The final was a damp squib, due to the draw, but ask yourself would Djokovic (or anyone else for that matter) done any better? Doubtful based on his performance earlier in the week.

So, how about people actually give Nadal credit where it's due. The man couldn't walk properly leaving Rome a few weeks ago, came into this tournament off the back of his worst clay court season, has one leg fully anaesthetised, but still beat everyone in front of him. All I can say is congrats to the GOAT.
