We're nearly in May, so we might as well start this up for this year. There'll be no E3 of course (rip, maybe), but plenty of other showcases will attempt to fill the void in your hearts.

First details are from the Tribeca Festival (June 11 - 19). Their selection includes Sam Barlow's Immortality, the Cuphead DLC, and the sequels to Oxenfree and A Plague Tale. The full list;

June will also see the return of Keighley's SGF which he says will be more condensed this year, rather than being spread out over a few months. Promises, promises.

The XBox showcase is rumoured for June also, and will surely have new info/footage for Starfield and Redfall. Right? RIGHT??

Interesting. I'd love to see a Saturn mini, I've never played one. Perhaps a Saturn/Dreamcast hybrid to make it more broadly appealing.

Yep and working pretty well in RetroArch. But this is M2 who are pretty much the best at commercial emulation in the business and make their emulators from scratch. We have commercial emulated Saturn games now (the recent cotton releases for instance) but they are riddled with ridiculous lag which just wouldnt pass muster with m2 who pride themselves on authenticity.

M2 said they worked on the Sega CD emulation before Sega even asked them to.

Ah fair enough then. I completely forgot about the first MD mini and just looked up the games, exactly the list i was thinking about but could have done with some desert strike.

The director of the project said the first megadrive mini is for the more casual fan while this one is aimed more at the enthusiast so expect a lot more deep cuts.

20 of the 50 games on it will be Sega CD games.

M2 said they aren't there yet with 32x emulation because of the dual processor design of the system which is very like the Saturn. They said if they crack 32x they might be able to crack Saturn and are doing some research into it.

Have to disagree. Loads of excellent games there. Shining force CD, mansion of and popful mail are amazing games that are horribly expensive. Thunderforce 4 is legendary and taruroto is a game freak developed platformer and a really great one. Bonanza bros is the weakest game there and it's still a pretty great game. Retro enthusiasts think the list is really good.

I’d forgotten about Season and had sort of cooled on it anyway after all that messiness and allegations around some of the management team at the studio (https://www.pcgamer.com/audit-into-scavenger-studio-did-not-find-the-presence-of-systemic-sexual-or-psychological-harassment/). But it’s looking pretty damn impressive now - hopefully the final game can live up to the promise in the trailers so far.

Visually this obviously looks amazing.

Have to say I think the tone unfortunately looks way off. Part of the brilliance of RE4 was that it didn't take itself too seriously, was self aware and had a good sense of humour. This looks like it takes itself very seriously.

They have the same Leon voice actor for RE2 as well who I wasn't mad about, sooo... 😬

Anyway, hopefully the gameplay is still great.

About what I expected, these State of Plays always lack a bit without first party stuff, which to be fair they said wouldn't be there & its a very lean time for big 3rd party software. I know people will instinctively hate it but I can't wait for that Resident Evil 4 remake. Horizon VR looked better than I was expecting. I'm stupidly thinking they will make an effort with Street Fighter 6 as SFV was pish. No chance Callisto Protocol isn't delayed, very little shown of something that is months away from launch. Final Fantasy 16? Honestly I don't know what to make of as a lot of it is lost on me.

Lots of good stuff there as far as I'm concerned. Maybe the PSVR2 stuff was a little lacking (although Lady Dimitrescu in VR will be popular in certain quarters, I'm sure).

Delighted that Spidey is coming to PC too. It pretty much means no Sony exclusive is off limits for eventually porting over (stares at From/Bluepoint).
