Received today a bill for 2 months for €900!!! Even with increases this in beyond belief. Our last bill was slightly less than €100.
To say a state of shock is an understatement. Is this the future?
Sounds like you need your boiler serviced!
Is this a genuine bill and you've checked the meter reading?
Was serviced relatively recently.
100% genuine.
We rent and the bill's in the LL name so was just dropped in this evening. But we will be challenging it. It's inconceivable that we have run up a bill this high.
Have you been keeping track of the readings yourself?
Lads are tapping into gas lines and stealing it, saw it in two estates in Kildare recently.
No we haven't. More fool us. But I do have our most recent bills which I'll be going through tomorrow.
I just cannot accept a bill like that.
Have you got last reading and this reading and is it estimated.
Really!! How would they do that?
A line tap.
Is it possible that previous bills were estimated, and this bill was from a reading, and usage was higher than previously estimated?
Last reading was estimated and it says this reading was supplied by the customer. Except our meter is in front of the house and is only ever read or estimated. We've never supplied a reading. Only just saw that now.
What exactly did you see?
If they keep on getting estimated readings they normally contact you when meter is inside the house as no entry was involved , but outside should be true readings. i got my gas bill and usual 97 odd deduction each month but not used that much with the good weather.
Do you cook with gas or just heat with gas as it does seem to be a mad bill you got.
Shouldn't affect the consumer unless it's done downstream of the meter though?
OP, is it possible there might be other appliance(s) not in your dwelling that might conceivably be connected to your supply?
Edit: Check your meter reading against that stated.
It is also possible that the previous estimate was way too low, and the cost you are seeing is to correct the deficit.
We cook and heat. But there are 3 separate settings on the timer. Upstairs heat, downstairs heat and water. We have the water set to come on for 1 hour each morning. We haven't been using the heating. We're averaging 21 degrees C upstairs and maybe a degree or so lower downstairs so it hasn't been needed. And there's only 2 of us, and we do cook but not excessive I would say.
What other appliances would be connected?
I'm just curious as to why it says a customer reading for this one, when we've never supplied the reading ourselves.
Obviously it has to be down stream of the meter 🙄
Nah, it just sounds like you're making stuff up. Or you just don't know what you're looking at. Any pictures of these mysterious gas line taps that you can spot, but not the homeowner? Where are the pipelines running to?
Such utter bullshit.
How would the customer not notice?
How would this mysterious thief install it?
Where is this gas being syphoned off to and how could such a blatant thing be disguised?
Makes no sense at all.
You did not say whether you were in a house, apartment or other multi-unit dwelling, hence my question.
A semi detached house.
Hopefully it's some sort of mistake that's a ridiculous bill to be getting in june
Of the last few bills were estimated, and low, then they read it and charge you for the difference at the new rate..
It's a sickener, but I'd say you'll be doing well to get anywhere with them..
Same thing happened to me a few years ago, when gas wasn't so ridiculously priced, so I try to stay on top of it and send them in a reading whenever..
I think this is likely, and prices have soared. As I said above:
If this is the scenario, are they really allowed to charge you the higher rate when the discrepancy arose because of their incorrect estimated bills?
Lots of things in life makes no sense but let’s start at the basics. Do some research on line tap self cutting saddles and come back to me then. You must not be aware of these readily available products yet you have the cheek to call my post bullshit.
I think you need to start with answering basic questions, like have you any proof to back up your mad claim. 😂
Wearb needs to introduce his sanctions there on you I’d say. He is eager to hit a emergency stop he has on his table.
MOD NOTE: BYE NOW 👋
From what I gather you never submit readings, get a hold of a few previous bills, are they all estimated? IS the meter reading reflective of that on the bill? Might your landlord have submitted a larger figure in error, or someone else?! Friends of ours heat their home with underfloor heating and were raving about how cost effective it was for months, until they actually submitted a reading and got hit for a fortune cos they were using a lot more than the estimates. My meters are internal and i generally submit a reading every 2 or 3 months, doesnt take much to do and keeps things accurate.
A lot of people don't get around to it though. I'm constantly nagging my father to do it, but he just keeps putting it off. I submitted an ESB reading for him recently, after a couple years of estimating. They now have him in credit for the next few months as they over estimated his usage.
