The west don’t want Russia defeated, it’s foreign policy play. Have Russia balls deep in Ukraine so they aren’t involved on the world stage.
Yeah I agree that their morale would not be good. But if they are in The ascendency, their morale would he alot better than the opposition
I don't understand Why Russian soldiers would decide to start killing their Generals under those circumstances
Victor Orban is threatening to Vito the oil embargo not Germany. There is a major anti Germany bent on this thread
its Victor Orban in Hungary who is threatening to Vito anything on Russia imports not Germany. Get your facts right. This anti German agenda of yours is stale. 🥱
A lot of Russian soldiers wouldn't even particularly want to be there or even understand why the war is happening. Combine this with the poor conditions generally prevalent in a war such as this and you have a recipe for low morale.
I thought Russia was making gains in the Donbass recently? Why would Russian soldiers start killing theirs Generals when they are on the ascendency?
Why would their morale be low?
Also we haven't been getting any Russian oil for about 3 months now so not sure what kind of plan he needs.
Ours comes from the UK. The US have upped production and released oil from their strategic supply but all eyes are on OPEC+ who are increasing production at a very slow pre-agreed rate. That is where the increased cost is coming from.
Tayyip Erdoğan hosting talks between the UN, Ukraine, and Russia.... that is one guy I would not trust either at any rate.
That's great but where will we get oil from and how much extra will it cost us? Just wondering what MM's plan is.
"A bomb will go of and it won't be in Brussels, it will be in Dublin"
Nobody is dictated to 😂
What you and I think should happen is very different from what will happen.
Martin prodding Orban on sanctions agreement.
You don't seem to understand just how EU decisions are reached, it's a collective declaration of all 27. Nobody is dictated to anywhere. They can all object and veto. By and large that is not a regular thing and generally used to flag individual issues.
There are three countries who have problems with the proposal, two of whom have indicated they support the concept but will need more time than the end of the year. The EU have accommodated them.
Orban is indulging same carry-on that he can get away with in Hungary. The fact that he has been going on about the billions it will cost suggests he expects the EU will fork out a contribution to it. They won't. TBH all they need is to get a Yes out of him. Once that's done they can apply the sanctions and he can go back to his hole.
They can start by targeting those pesky pipelines. Then the oil fields in est Russia. Might be a bit of a question about the geneva convention but hell Russia ripped up that book a long time ago. Time to fight fire with fire.
Including our good selves..
Exactly. I presume though that many of the smaller countries won't do that and will wait to be "dictated" to by the EU and then blame the EU if/when their own people question rising costs/etc as a result of the decision
Nothing to stop other countries just deciding separately as a group and leave Hungary out in the cold. And making it very very obvious that this is the case.
That sounds like a scene straight out of a war movie, but very plausible too, especially with an army whose morale is low and things are not going quite to plan.
They are barely in the place and they are looting it.
I still see nothing about Ukraine having no fight left in them. Your assertion.
Plan B.
Russia fights Russia
My thought is that was just fear of a massive row with the EU and the other members right before his election with some unpredictible results. So he kept his head down.
He came out swinging hard for "Brussels" and his enemies etc. after he was safely voted in again.
He doesn't care now, can go all out toady-ing for the likes of Putin & Xi at the heart of the EU.
I wonder would he have tried to obstruct Sweden and Finland joining NATO too, but Erdogan pipped him to that! I do wonder also was it Hungary's last chance to get rid of him peacefully via an election + he's there as "PM for life" now (lovely)...
I did hear from a friend who works at a pretty high level in Brussels that VDL had a (by diplomatic standards) very 'frank' conversation with him when he was delaying the first batch of sanctions.
Oh, he's now likely to get very little in the way of structural funds and the article links to a report on the EU withholding a very big chunk of the post-COVID fund allocated to Hungary. Oddly, I think it is lack of EU freebies that will make him want to comply on issues that are non-compatible with EU laws and principles.
Don't bow to anything
Orban is ultimately a **** stirrer
In reality Hungary could not survive without eu
They are literally throwing their last hand thinking they backed by scholz
No, there isn't and it would be welcome but it's an agreed position they want to get so that the likes of Hungary don't do even more as they please.
Orban really has come back to life (not in a good way) since the election. There's going to have to be a proper reckoning with Hungary some day, there are certain EU principles that are most definitely not optional.
Nothing to stop other countries just not buying oil from Russia. The EU don't dictate where or who you must buy from. Therefore nothing to stop countries just stopping (ala Poland with the gas)
EU nudging slowly towards a likely fudge on oil ban. Not much choice and may be the end product with 2 countries along with Orban, opposed to year end ban. Noteworthy here too, the effects of the Hungarian opposition to other sanctions.
