Ever hear of defensive driving? It was obvious he was going to change lane, I’d have hung back
Yes I drive the m50 twice daily and have done so for several years. If that guy had collided with me he would be the one in the wrong, You can't just cross into lanes regardless of what's coming along or how fast it's coming just cos you have your indicator on. If that was the case we'd have pile-ups at every merging onto motorway lane. It's aggressive driving in the sense that I expect my clear road not to be obstructed by someone not watching what they're doing crossing into my path. It was complete driving without due care and attention by the other motorist IMO.
You'll also notice that the car in front of me in lane 2 has to take evasive action as they pass the same motorist as well.
Ya you’re entitled to whatever you want - It’s still aggressive driving and was unnecessary.
Assuming you don’t drive something like the M50 daily? You’d probably average a crash a week doing that.
Yes maybe, at the time I was in disbelief. How was he coming into my lane when I was in it and approaching him at speed?
It doesn't matter when he indicated, indication doesn't give him right of way. I'm entitled to just keep going - my lane is free and I was travelling a lot faster than he was and if he had looked in his mirror before he attempted the manoeuvre he would have seen me, but instead he just waltzes into my lane. After watching the video a few times it seems maybe I could've pulled up and let him in which would be safer all round but in reality while it was actually happening I was already committed to passing him and was sounding my horn as soon as I started to see him veering towards my lane.
Have to agree, he indicated well in advance but you just kept going.
That’s very aggressive driving by you. You knew well in advance that he was coming into your lane with his right indicator on
When you hear on the radio "collision on the M50 northbound", your video is an exact demonstration of how that happens.
M50 Northbound...in hindsight perhaps I could've/should've braked.
You first upload the video to YouTube then you can link to it in your post
Yes, the amount of places in Dublin where if you were to follow the arrows it would have you in the wrong lane as the arrow you're following changes direction just as you arrive at a junction!! It's ridiculous and the amount of times you see foreign or country cars getting caught out. Signage in this country is atrocious.
P.S. How do I upload a video?
It's ridiculous isn't it? Not just roundabouts, I've been caught on a few roads because the arrows are painted on the road near the junction/traffic light so you don't know what lane to be in. At the very least paint more arrows further back FFS.
Not helped by our complete lack of lane signage leading up to roundabouts. I've don't understand why we insist on labelling lanes via arrows on the road, it gives people like that "plausible deniability" even though we all know exactly what they are trying to get away with.
Seeing that shite happen more-and-more recently. Often see them nudging up slightly and knowing in advance what they’ll do. Better off just leaving them at it instead of causing potential aggro
I see a trend here lol.
There are 3 lanes at this roundabout. The right and centre lanes are for going straight on or around the roundabout. The left most lane, where the BMW was, is for exiting left only. I really hate when people do this as you're in the middle lane second guessing whether or not they are going to go left, through or around the roundabout.
But there is a big arrow on the road pointing inwards right at the entrance where they turned to come out. They knew exactly what they were doing.
To be fair, most car parks (especially multistorey) in this country have the worst and most confusing signage.
Exiting through an entrance. This seems common enough here in Balbriggan.
Your bang on there, no bus lane on the r139, years back it had some crazy bus Lane set up but that could have been 15 years ago, either way I avoid it all costs as the video posted sums it up quite well- numerous fatalities on it as well to add to its woes…
Grrrr! Grrrr!
Just checking because the R139 ( Old N39 ) doesn't have a bus lane
This one- easy tiger
What bus lane?
XX
It’s a solid white line for a reason. Yes the Hyundai should have looked (very few do) but that’s a piss poor road and the BMW would have taken the vast majority of the blame if not all of it for a dangerous overtake on a solid white line.
Are both parties not of equal blame? Overtaking on solid white line, Hyundai not looking left before pulling out?
I’d be sending that one onto HMS, shocking stuff. That road is my least favourite road in the country. Always mad stuff happening on it, must also be one the biggest litter blacks spot in Dublin.
Coming from the airport you usually get a load of tools going left for the n32 in the m50 only lane-
or coming from darndale the bus lane might as well be another lane for cars…
One from this afternoon on the R139 (old N32) with a 60km speed limit. Not sure if its viewable in the video but he was at the same crap further up. HMS Security services must has left the gas on back home
Some of the speeds in that video seem nuts considering the visibility and conditions.
But I've once driven 350km in near continuous fog and it was hard to know which was more dangerous, keep going at 120 in the outside lane or slow down to 60 in the inside lane and hope a bus/truck doesn't plough into the back of you.
You're constantly staring ahead trying to pick out lights/vehicles, but in the featureless white, your eyes can't focus on anything and after a while you develop a near-zombie state.
And then a bus goes past doing 130 in the outside lane and 15-20 cars tucked in behind following the leader 😐️
I think he was referring to his car, a Dodge Charger
