Has anyone got the link to this? It was advertised in my Dept but I can't see it on Publicjobs??
I made it through having never managed an CO or formally managing anyone.
The competency is team leadership, not team management and a large number of people seem to not really recognise the difference between the two. It's not about how many people you have to delegate work to. It's about how you can lead a team.
I agree. Leadership is the one frequently failed. Its not enough to just have staff unfortunately. You need to be able to demonstrate you "lead" others well. They focus heavily on this competency.
Well I'm an EO and I have failed the shortlisting several times and it always the leadership competency. I work in a small organisation where I have a max of 1 direct report and then maybe 2-3 other CO's reporting to me based on the subject areas I'm involved in. (We embrace a cross-matrix work ethos here). All the selection boards seem to focus on is the number of direct reports an EO has rather than the actual experience.
I think it's just a case of people being overly critical of their applications and not knowing the standard of other people's applications.
If anyone is an EO they shouldn't be worried about getting cut at shortlisting. They should have plenty of experience in management
In my own case I'm not worried about not being shortlisted but I do wonder about my competancy examples. Are they too simple, are they the best example of the competancy I can think of, would they be better suited to anoither competancy, etc.
TravelMoon ... Have you any tips for doing so well on the assessments
@TravelMoon Also brilliant results well done!
Oh sorry I wrote that completely wrong. I know Dublin will be called first but I don't think they will be shortlisted based off the PAS message
I meant the first step for regional people would be shortlisting before any interviews etc.
Why do so many feel shortlisting will knock them out? Where do you think you’ll fall down?
It does say that ALL successful candidates from stage 1 that selected Dublin will be brought to stage 2 in early June. So I'm not sure batches will come in to it as yet.
I think this is quite a fair way of doing it as it gives those a chance that may hit all of the competencies in their application, but may not test well/get a poor OOM.
I agree. My thinking is they will take a certain number of the batch based on OOM, pull their forms and review them for shortlisting. Anyone who meets criteria will then be interviewed? So they won't need to review them all. Just the first batch
I wonder if the review of applications will be starting in early June or if the review is already underway and the results will be out in Early June? It would take quite a while with the volume of applications.
"Stage 2 of the selection process will comprise of shortlisting. It is initially intended that all successful candidates from Stage 1 who selected Dublin as a location choice will be brought to Stage 2 in early-June. Shortlisting for regional location choices will take place on a later date."
Appears to be the opposite approach, Dublin first, regional later.
I did quite well in the tests, Top 10 in Dub and 1 in regional, but I suspect shortlisting will knock me out. 'Early-June' is a bit optimistic for them, but hopefully will put us out of our misery sooner rather than later!
I agree. I think it'll be shortlisting on form followed by interview. Hopefully will find out soon
From reading the stages it appears shortlisting from applications forms first for regional candidates. Then possibly a video assessment before being called for am actual interview.
I also hated that video assessment stage.
I feel like Roger and Tample are close personal friends of mine at this point.
Cut-e/Aon routinely recycle the names.
The test used for this was exactly and I mean exactly the same test was used recently for an internal EO competition in DAFM. I told PAS about this but they are not at all interested that some people may have sat this exam at least twice in different competitions. Seems strange they could allow that to happen and not even ask the testing company about it.
I hope the pre recorded interview isn’t part of this competition. I failed miserably last time failing the leadership competency and not sure where I could improve if I was to do it again. I know a good few people who failed it, it was very difficult in my opinion. They shortlisted on forms a couple of years back, you’d wonder how they assess forms accurately given the volume of applicants.
Just that they said the pass rate was 20 instead it was 34 or something like that
What happened with the results?
Three are some serious good results by some people... I cannot seem to improve no matter how much practice I do. OOM 1100 for dublin. Is there any chance with that sort of score ? OOM for County is too high altogether.
They effed up the exam and then effed up the results! Doesn’t say much for the competency in PAS
Oh Jayzis 🤯
I did similar for an AO comp. Got through to and passed the interview but flunked the presentation. Really hoping it doesn't take this format! I think they will skip the preliminary interview part this time but I'm only guessing so who knows!!
The last interd comp the next stage was preliminary interview which was pre recorded. Brief intro not scored, then 3 competancies. They looked at just leadership and if you didnt meet the qualifying standard for that they didnt look at the rest. Next stage was an interview consisting of a 3 page report and you presented that for first 20 mins of interview and then 40 min competency based interview. It was ok if you prepped like your life depended on it!
What is the point of an OOM if all you had to do was pass? Everyone gets checked and I doubt your OOM place plays a role in the shortlisting process. Could it follow you through the stage after?
During the last open competition I think one of the next stages was like a pre-interview....speaking into the camera for a few minutes on 4 competencies that were provided in advance.
So the next step could just be them sending you a message saying we looked at your app you did not get shortlisted?
Did really well but a sense of dread came over me when i read that the next stage was shortlisting.
Wow! Well done!! You must have been super quick and accurate. Great result 😊
Very, very similar.
