Just laughing at Mattie Mc Grath on the late Debate , he's out there but a great line
"There's been more housing ministers than Houses built in the past number of years " 🤣
Paul Mc Auliffe (FF) struggling on the Late debate trying to explain €450 million being essentially gifted to Developer's to build apartments 🙄 , I'm again being reminded of the Galway Tent.
So a brand new 1 bed apartment at €1K a month is in my opinion perfect for a working couple. I would call that affordable.
What do you think is affordable?
Somebody on Twitter quipped:
'This is so bad even the Turkish bot farms are refusing to retweet it'. 😁
They say between 30 -35% of income on rent is what is considered being affordable. I'd go with that.
Galway Tent you say
Funniest quip I saw on twitter was that Higgins is the reason Pizza Express is called Milanos over here
Got a renewal through the letter box in 4 working days last month using the online service.
I’d agree with this. FG are by far the worse half of the coalition. At least in FF you have a few common sense TDS still. FG are cloud cuckoo land Foxrock green solicitor set. Obsessed with identity politics. Varadkar is appalling.
Martin is poor but I still have more respect for him than Varadkar
So 1k is affordable
Thanks for confirming
To anyone on minimum wage, it is not affordable. Its far from affordable
So what is affordable?
It depends on your income. As has been said plenty of times in and around 30% maybe a bit more. For someone on minimum wage 30% would be approx 500 per week (add in benefits they may be entitled to, this may increase)
Hilarious
complaining about what is unaffordable and you haven’t a clue about what is affordable
Plus what about all the young couple who are out working all week and want an affordable house and earn enough for these? We should forget about them?
This is just the usual rubbish, everything is bad, everything is wrong and then silence with one question
1,000 a month is not affordable for a large section of the public.
Is someone on minimum wage not out working all week?
You want a catch all figure for what’s affordable that applies to everyone in the country regardless of circumstances?
Exactly and its me who's hilarious.
I'm not not sure what the percentages are re affordability with regard to rent and income but I seem to recall when I got my mortgage over 20 years ago the ideal situation would have been my mortgage payment would be 25% of monthly income , obviously that may of changed.
Looking at a Single person on minimum wage.
At a basic gross level a current minimum wage would be €420 per week.
Assuming a single person paying €1,000 PM
That Equates to €230 per week 😳 which is actually more than 50% of their salary.
Obviously this is at a very basic level, no state supports, HAP etc but at a very basic level ,this is not what I'd call affordable and it must not be assumed theres an automatic entitlement HAP or other income supports for people on a minimum wage.
The situation may improve with a couple sharing.
You should ask that question of the person who posted it was unaffordable shouldn’t you?
I was just asking for clarity because if that was unaffordable what did they deem as affordable.
You do realise people with jobs and earning above the minimum wage also need houses to live in?
No need for the makey uppey stories
What are you getting at here? The problem is affordable housing as it’s called isn’t affordable. No one is saying people with jobs earning higher salaries don’t need housing too. In fact people with jobs earning well above minimum wage can’t even afford housing in lots of cases at the moment so how would we expect minimum wage earners to be able to.
To me it just looks like you are spouting nonsense just to have an argument for arguments sake.
So now it’s a large section, how big is this section out of interest?
I never said someone on minimum wage wasn’t? Did I?
Charming as ever
There's no makey uppy story , I've clearly laid out an observation based on a minimum gross wage for a single person , unless your assuming those on minimum wage don't actually work or single people working on minimum wage don't exist 🤔
I've also said the situation would be better for a couple.
Obviously people earning higher wages can afford €1,000 pm and I never said anything about anyone needing accommodation, I laid out a scenario at a basic level and said so. .
What actually annoys you more, Facts or people having points that differ from yours 🙄
Fairly simple, people are shouting it is unaffordable but have no idea what is affordable
Affordable housing is not just for people on minimum wage, plenty of people this will suit them perfectly but you don’t care about them do you?
Facts? I didn’t see any facts. As I pointed out already these will be ideal for some people
All I am pointing out is how ridiculous it is for someone to complain this is “unaffordable”
Annoyed? 🤣
Again, I literally just said in the post you replied to that many earning well above minimum wage can’t afford housing.
im not sure what you are trying to argue with.
Housing affordability is affecting the vast majority of younger professionals too at this stage.
And you are right. People will be only delighted to pay 1000/month for a single bed apartment I’m sure.
No you claimed I posted a Makey Uppy story when all I did is offer a factual scenario based on a single person on a current gross minimum wage being able to afford €1,000 pm rent and surmised correctly this would be unaffordable.
We can all make assumptions on affordability, I didnt claim to know what an affordability percentage would be for rent as opposed to income but suggested 50% would not be in the scenario I laid out.
If I was untruthful being disingenuous, I'd be deserving of criticism, I was neither and didn't even direct my post at you and yet again you Jump to critise and make accusations about a makey uppy story.
Its par for the course. Pointless arguments to distract.
I’m not trying to “argue”
just pointing out that 1,000 a month is not unaffordable for some people, it is for others.
I heard about this tent at the races for politicians on Morning Ireland. It was not logged on the lobbying register either. They have no filters when it comes to common sense. Do we know who was at it?
