Absolutely shocking comments from this judge, rightly called out by Irish Network Against Racism (INAR) which is an umbrella group for 170 organisations committed to combating racism and discrimination.
Judge Walsh noted that interpreter costs were funded by the taxpayer and said: “They have no need for an interpreter when they go to buy their hooch. They don’t need assistance when they’re signing on for social welfare.”
“He didn’t need an interpreter with him when he went to buy his drink, or when he goes shopping. They know more English than we know ourselves.
INAR stated
“A basic principle of justice is that all are equal before the law. That means being able to have equal access and understanding of legal proceedings,” said INAR director Shane O Curry.
Some data around interpreter requests
Courts received 9,216 requests for interpreters last year compared to 7,513 in 2020. Court interpreters cost €1.5m in 2021 and €1m in 2020.
Interpretation costs were considerably higher during the Celtic Tiger years, reaching €3.6m just as the economy crashed in 2008.
In the past two years the most common languages for which an interpreter was required were Polish (1,962), Romanian (1,519), Lithuanian (1,005), Russian (808), Portuguese (353), Latvian (235), Arabic (199), Mandarin Chinese (166), Hungarian (131) and Georgian (116).
43 nationalities in one school, that has to be some kind of record
yeah you know what schools do when they can't brag about their academic achievements? They brag about diversity, and when they're really desperate they brag about gender neutral toilets.
42% going to 3rd level in 2021, yes some kind of record, dire I would say

This has to be a new low for this thread.
No, look, 42% is low:
This actually reminds me of Gemma O'Doherty going around targeting schools
Well that's your problem. What I've said it's true and I wasn't the one that targeted a school, which unfortunately backfired and proven my point.
I'm not sure leaning into your attack on these children is the right approach, but you do you, I've no wish to encourage your disgusting attacks on the sexuality and intelligence of kids further so I'll leave you off
An umbrella group for 170! organizations. How much taxpayer funding are these 170 crowds getting anyone know?
I might even set one up meself n apply for funding- surely there's room for one more! It'd be racist to not get funding!
I can't understand why the interpreter costs aren't billed back to those who needed them but I guess now I'm guilty of attacking the justice system or something.
The third type is the ones who never question why so many African doctors are in Ireland instead of in their own country where they are needed more.
There's no need to question that, it's because of the better pay and working conditions. And Ireland needs more doctors and if that leaves Africa wanting, well, it is what it is. Also true is that a lot of those doctors are of questionable skills but that's a question no longer asked, but the horror stories are still there if anyone wants to find them.
Give us a shout when the Polish one is on. I'll definitely try and attend.
There is a right to peaceful protest the video showed a peaceful protest .
You are sooo lucky to have an event close by .
I've seen commentary on this that theres 170 NGOs with CEOs who are members of INAR. This is beyond ludicrous. Im involved with one of those 170 organisations. Its entirely made up of volunteers and has zero government funding. A large number of the 170 are the same. The crazed conspiracies about INAR are on overdrive today.
"peaceful" - you are having a laugh - this is a racist hate fuelled mob
I'm looking forward to the Russian one myself. It should be a bit of crack.
INARs work is possible due to the Government of Ireland and Pobal.
It sounds like they get government funding
Yes. A large number of the 170 INAR members dont like some of the mad conspiracists are claiming.
There's grants that all of those groups qualify for. Are you telling me that none of them are getting grants?
https://www.justice.ie/en/JELR/NPARAd.pdf/Files/NPARAd.pdf
I honestly wish that progressives would put more effort into their dishonesty, as a few button clicks can prove them wrong in a few seconds.
Did I say none of them get grants? I am sure some do get grants. The conspiracy drivel about 170 CEOs and all these 170 organisations getting government funding was what I was talking about. Try better than a link from 2004 though.
Anna, give us the name of the NGO you volunteer for, and we'll see if they're completely independent of State funding... cause I highly doubt they are.
After all, why turn away from such funding when the government supports your policy agendas already. It's not as if NGO's are operating in an environment with a hostile government or political scene.
I didnt say I volunteer for an NGO. 🙄
its entirely made up of volunteers and has zero government funding
Lets me guess, somehow a grant isn't government funding, even though it matches the literal definition:
"A grant is a way the government funds your ideas and projects to provide public services and stimulate the economy".
Black is white, men can be women, and government funding isn't government funding. We're certainly living in mad times.
No government funding. No state funding. No grants.
This conspiracy that every group/organisation that is a member of INAR gets state or government funding and a CEO is drivel. And links from 2004 prove nothing.
You're the one claiming black is white not me
No doubt you can provide proof for your accusation !!
Are you really trying to argue that the National Party are not racist? Its literally built into the founding principles of the party lol
Feel free to take it directly from the party leader
or indeed have a look through their Youtube channel or website for a full view of their stances regarding
