By chance had a quick look at my wallbox yesterday in daylight and found 3 big cracks on the front cover. Doesn't look too good on a charger which less than 2yo. I dont wrap the cable around the charger so most probably the sun exposure. Contacted wallbox customer service to see whether it's a warranty job (3 year warranty).
Are those cracks at clip positions for fixing the cover on?
Did someone abuse it when either fitting or perhaps trying to remove cover?
Almost looks like someone tried force the cover off with a screw driver or something similar.
I don't think so. The unit was installed in September 2020 and there was no damage on it.
The unit wasn't touched since it was installed. At least by me:)
To me it looks like damage caused by something hitting it.
Poor quality plastic housing, those cracks render the IP rating useless. That's replacement under warranty
I'd say it will be a struggle with warranty unless they are all cracking like this.
Could be installer issue or got a whack.
Anything that could have caused damage to that, all the way around like in the pictures surely would also have also had to damage the pipe next to it and/or the charge cable holder too. The pipe looks "thicker" than the EVSE so would have likely taken any impact first. Unless it was hit by something long and square like the end of a fence post, I'd day it is unlikely to be physical damage.
Looks more like the plastic housing has weathered and cracked around some internal clips or other construction underneath, to me. I'd be asking for a warranty repair.
Coincidentally I have the same type of cracks on mine, thought it was from winding the lead around the box.
Is yours fitted on pebbledash too ?
No, K-rend smooth plaster.
I think the same. Its installed on a side of the house facing south so gets a fair bit of sun exposure throughout the day until the shadow of the neighbouring house covers it. There's def no physical damage on it. Indeed you can just about see the electronics inside which is a worry.
I had a hook for cable storage so never wrapped around it. Nowadays I'm to lazy to coil the cable so just insert the plug into the holder. My guess its weathering. Have you contacted wallbox about it?
Def nothing around the charger to damage it. It's facing south though so my bet is on weathering. Will see what wallbox will say about it. I have ab 15 mo ths of warranty left.
Just got a reply from wallbox - no mention of the damage, just gave me a link to amazon to by the cover for 17GBP and ask an electrician to install it. Nice one, wallbox. Sent them a reply, see what happens.
Chancing their arm
To be honest Rusky I had assumed I caused it so didn’t contact Wallbox, now that I see someone else has same issue, I might have them a shout.
They're. They are already reconsidering and now they think it's a sun damage and since its still under warranty they now will seek supervisors approval to get a cover replacement. The question is - do I need an electrician to replace it?
After a threatening email they now think its sun damage.
WTF? Did you tell them it rains all the time here and it’s not much you making a box that can’t be used in a sunny place?
Funny enough wallbox is a Spanish company with HQ in Barcelona. I know I’m in sunny cork but surely they can design smth which can withstand our sun never mind theirs.
Looks like physical damage to me, never know who's around the house when you're not there but time will tell how mine looks like in a year or two.
I thought it was damage too but if we have 2 people on thread now with same defect, we can assume it's an issue with the cover.
Directing customer to Amazon to buy a new cover is laughable.
Ok, they changed their mind and sending me the replacement cover free of charge. Need to figure out whether I can get away with a DIY installation. Should be a direct swap.
Looks like a simple case of removing the screws, disconnect ribbon connector and reverse to put new cover on, couple of minutes max
Yep, I'll give at go when the replacement arrives.
The replacement cover has arrived. Will install tomorrow:)
Swapper the cover in 5 min. Just 8 screws to deal with. Net cost - €0.
Just installed a new update and finally you can turn off the LED halo in standby mode.
Hi. Where did you get the replacement cover. Similar issue with mine.
