Hi guys,
Haven't posted in a while (used be an Imagine customer and they just ground me down eventually) I bought Starlink (second gen, the square dish) and installed it about a week ago. The router doesn't have an ethernet port so I ordered their splitter attachment as well.
So now to my issue, I connected the Starlink router to a TP link Deco mesh (old house with thick walls) with a cat 5 cable and the maximum speed I am getting is 20m up/down. I contacted Starlink customer service( who are excellent by the way) and they told me to connect laptop directly to router with cat5 cable and test again, slight improvement maybe 30m up/down.
When I disconnected the cat5 cable, the laptop picked up a "Starlink 5 ghz" so I connected wifi and the speeds were unreal, 250/70 up/down but the range from the router is terrible (old house thick walls). So I guess my question is, how to get the Deco to use Starlink 5ghz network instead of the slower one it is picking up with the cat5 cable because Deco q&a say it can't connect wirelessly to the router.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
This what you're looking for ?

Thank you for reply. Just a quick one, do I have to put a router between the starlink router and the first deco? Assuming I need the new router to pick up the starlink 5 ghz?
Something like this https://www.harveynorman.ie/sale/tp-link-ax1800-dual-band-wi-fi-6-router.html
I suspect that your issue could be related to Deco acting as second router (DHCP, NAT, firewall, etc.) As you already have whole kit required - test deco in AP mode with SL Ethernet adapter.
There is potential that SL Ether adapter at fault, but simple to test - seek for replacement.
This guy talk a lot , but in between he show the fault and the way he dealt with it, see if this is option for you.

I could not find tech data re adapter , but here is some break-down review.
What a penny pinching on SPX face....
Thanks again for your reply. Seems the adapter is faulty. God knows when I will get the replacement. So my next question is can I link a router (maybe the one i linked above) wirelessly to the starlink modem to boast the signal. The 5ghz drops 15 feet away.
What you are looking for is WDS feature/function - AX1800 does not appear to have it.
AX11000, AX6000, A6, A7 does, some other might also but you need to check
Thanks again for you reply, you're very good. Was thinking of using a wifi extender with an ethernet port and connect my deco in to that. Would that work, you think. I can put the wifi extender right next to the starlink router. Something like this
https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re650/
That one should do
Are you sure this works in access point mode with Ethernet uplink, there's no mention of it. You definitely do not want repeating, would be better with full mesh
No, not sure, i don't own this device. From main product page:
I didn't say its perfect, but what is ... oh, i know - SL router with build-in Eth port would be. 😏
I don't recommend to use Extender mode and there should be no need* . To my understanding, deco in AP mode should work thereafter* .
*I did not test this in real live environment.
Weak point still likely will be router(((.)))extender link, but as long it can sustain 200, specs claim MU-MIMO so there is hope .
If you know better please share.

@seanvanseanvan dumb question but sometimes you have to ask them how many ethernet cables do you have? If just the one then try another before you go through further hoops to link up these systems.
Options were limited in the end so thanks to Argos, I got this one https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/range-extender/re450/
Connected up to the Starlink modem wifi and connected the deco (cat 5) for my mesh system. Works perfect bar speed drop, currently 130up/30 down
Happy enough with that and no blackspot.
Thanks for reply, I did check several other cables.
Just a quick update, the new ethernet block arrived today. Connected it via cat6 to mesh directly and bingo, all is good in the world again. Thanks @smuggler.ie for all the help.
Wifi test below.. hit 0ver 300 at times
I'm trying to order on their homepage, but my address is not coming up (Eircode or address), my closest town (Tullamore) is about 7km away and addresses are coming up there.
Has anyone else had this issue in a rural area?
Get your Google plus location code via Google maps, copy and paste into the address box.
I notice it it may not work the first or second attempt but it does work.
For example this is a restaurant on the outskirts of Limerick city - MFCJ+WR8 Woodsdown, County Limerick
Worked perfectly, thanks
Great, previously the starlink order page directed you to Google plus code to find your address but since the last update that disappeared.
Finally got my dish up into the roof. Clear of any obstacles I’m getting 300mbps consistently
But have just established that the SL router doesn’t allow for the set up of a guest network. So no option but to buy a third party router
I know nothing about this other than what I learn from Google. Are there any routers that people here use with SL, that allow for guest networks and are easy to set up. Is it just a case of ‘plug and play’ with another router? (acknowledging will lose access to the Starlink app)
if you re-read from post #482 you might get the idea...
😏
Thanks for your help. I’ll go ask the guys in Curry’s
Please don't! It mean it, they've not got a clue
I ran a cat cable from SL router to my Deco mesh and that has a guest network if needed.
Hey I know someone prob going to sell their Starlink kit purchased in Jan/feb this year if anyone interested.
prob go up on adverts next week
Is it easy to transfer Starlink ownership?
Just do change of address. Then change account email and card?
I know price has gone up for the initial outlay, couldn't see in the site without paying a deposit what the lead time is in Ireland. I know parts of US have had issues and many are complaining of saturation and reduced performance lately. Haven't noticed it here but I haven't tested it as much.
Let me know when they do please
I would say all those performance issues won't be an issue here as such.
All starlink fleet moving around the world , we are at same latitude as Canada and served by different satellites to USA . We probably have less starlink clients than Canada too , so contention won't be such a big deal .
Hopefully it's allowed here but if anyone wants a terminal, round dish with ethernet, in south Galway let me know. I have fibre now so don't need it anymore.
