The key elements include six high speed charging hubs on motorways capable of charging eight vehicles simultaneously; 16 high speed charging hubs capable of charging four vehicles simultaneously; additional high power chargers at 34 current 50 kW locations; upgrading over 50 22 kW chargers to 50 kW, and replacing up to 264 locations with 528 charge points at the pre-existing pilot grade of 22 kW to next generation high reliability models.
Just checked my usage for the same time frame, 429 kWh, 104 euro and 66 hours. Only phevs with a mix of rapid and AC with a break of 3 months last year because of driving the convertible. Only 1 cent or so in the difference per kWh, when did AC charging start requiring payment? maybe that explains the price difference.
August 2020 I think
The usage is for 1 car Nov 2019- May 2021 then 2 cars afterwards.
Do you not have any home charging or do you do a lot of mileage? Just curious as to the circumstances behind that usage
Both propositions are true :)
Normally I use about 4-500 kWh a month between the 2 cars. The usage on that chart is lower than normal due travel restrictions and mostly me shifting from ecars (around Nov 2020). In the last year I charged mostly on AC bar few tests I've done at J14 and Blanch. For the last 3 months I barely used it altogether, last month bill was 10 quid from which 5 it was the subscription.
Have easy go updated their ecars prices yet? App still says 35c +vat for me.
Who in Ecars is responsible for the positioning of chargers?
I've stopped at the circle k in glasnevin. The CCS cable won't reach if I park in the single green bay. I've had to park sort of half way so as not to block the airline/vacumn but I'm blocking anyone looking an AC charge.
There's a large enough parking area where the unit could have been placed which would have been a way better idea.
As it is now there's a charger with 3 heads that can charge 1 vehicle.
So much complaining, charge up and move on, be glad your not waiting, next time buy a car that can charge the way you want it.
It's actually a well known problem with some of the chargers, the Applegreen on M11 for example can only charge Chademo in one of the bays, cable won't reach the other one because the spaces are at an angle
This is why the forecourt layout is best, space around the chargers to accommodate different charge port locations
Its there 6 years? (best of my ability and interest to find out), the most, a few thousand cars that could use it at the time in the whole country, yet it needs its own forecourt now.
I am glad when I get a charge, I have purchased 3 cars now, so that I am not complaining or let down by a network which is still in its infancy.
Wow so much hurt. Grow up.
Just a simple installation that could have been done better. I had the option of blocking the service area or blocking another car from taking an AC charge.
Buy a car that can charge the way you want? It does charge the way I want. Unfortunately the ESB seem to place their chargers in places that aren't particularly efficient for any vehicles to charge.
Maybe Circle K went on a solo run with that site..........
There's four spots for the service area so you block one even if you park in the eCar space! I hope you paid in the shop when you were done.
"Do not use if doors are not closed..." ...wait... what doors?
Charger's doors :)
Disabling the AC is possibly the first sensible decision eCars have made in NI.
The other triple head replacements they installed would drop to 25kW on the DC if someone was charging on the AC.
Meanwhile in Derry where there used to be 1 rapid and 8 x 11kW, there is currently a rapid that averages 23kW and maxes at 29, and 1 functional 11kW.
There are also 2 x 7Kw chargers but they're in a car park with a £2 per hour charge unless you're using the train.
Car doors, because if it's raining then obviously the charger will shoot lightning at anyone with an open door 🤣
For a second I thought they'd installed one of those older AC units in France where there's basically a locker door over the socket and you can close it while charging so the plug is enclosed
But no, just some bizarre sign making
I can imagine the shop owner telling the staff to charge anyone using the charger a fiver. I wonder how many new EV drivers they'd get with that scam
Cash only of course, and the receipt machine is broken unfortunately 😏
That sign was there even when charging was free :)
July 2018
"contains electricity"
......really have to wonder at who designs these signs.
Hopefully its a sign of things to come, I saw a LinkedIn post from the Tritium CEO, they deliberately left off an AC port from their DC chargers and when asked for one answer with install an AC charger somewhere else nearby.
Gotta love the smoking-jacket/top-hat hangar on the charger. Class touch for the steampunks.
Ha ha and since 2018 that CHAdeMO unit was replaced by a triple header and nobody touched the sign. Topaz is probably gone from the floor paint too.
It's pretty impressive since I'm fairly sure that breaks a few laws of physics 😁
So I posted on Facebook about how stupid it is that the new DC chargers in Northern Ireland drop to 25kW if someone plugs into the AC.
Given that its free with no overstay charger, this results in the 50kW charger being hobbled most of the time by locals or nearby staff.
I've been roundly condemned for suggesting that the AC on those machines should be disconnected, like eCars have done in the recent replacement in Portrush.
I must say I'm surprised by the level of opposition. I thought it was a no brainer that when you only have half a dozen working 50kW chargers in the entire country, and the biggest issue with chargers is freeloaders overstaying, to put in 3 replacement rapids and then throttle them by half every time someone uses the AC is crazy.
It's really frustrating, I've had the same problem at a few of the Irish chargers, it's annoying when my 35 minute charge turns into a 70 minute charge and I'm expected to pay an extra €8 for the privilege of someone using the AC charger next to me. The AC sockets are an absolute disaster of a choice.
Didn't you get banned from that group? 😉
I thought the new DC units were smart enough to only drop the charge rate by the amount the AC was using? I must be wrong on that one, pretty stupid design decision as you said
Out of curiosity, what arguments were you given for keeping the AC sockets? 😁
I would imagine its very annoying, not something I care to do or take the chance that it would happen to me.
I was banned from the EVANI group because I dared to commit such horrendous crimes as condemning eCars (their corporate partner) and opposing their rampant censorship.
I posted on the Irish EV Owners page, the Northern Irish EV Owners page and the IEVOA page.
Most criticism was for suggesting that working charge points are disconnected, because anything is better than nothing. In general I'd agree, but the point is that with such a stupidly low number of DC points, it's insanity to hobble those to allow an AC charge, which there are already plenty of.
The best criticism though was a prominent member of the EV community accusing me of discriminating against the poor lol.
I discovered to my horror over the weekend that the "High Power" units at J17 (Portlaoise plaza) have the same 25kW limit
You monster 😜🤣
What???
I remember there was a fast and slower side, one of the cables is thicker and allows full power, the other is capped
But do they have a priority of one plug over the other?
Tbh my attitude to Mayfield at this point is charger of last resort
