Electricity Bill - Consumption Tripled in 1 month - How and Why?

I recently received our latest bill. In November our consumption during the day was 589 units. On average for 2021, every 2nd month was between 450 - 650 day units. Since January the day units have been 1,346, 1489 and 1370.

Does anyone have any info on why this is the case? I've never seen this before and it has caused our bill to more than double as well.

What kind of heating do you have? For that kind of increase there has to be a lot of heat being generated somewhere.

If you are in an apartment could you be getting billed for the wrong meter, get sight of the meter and check it's units, then cut the power to your apartment and make sure it usage stops. Then restore the power and turn on a heavy load, electric oven, kettle and emersion heater on at the same time should do it. Make sure the meter is going up faster....

If you have the wrong meter somebody is in for a shock!

After that have you stitched from heating your water with gas to electricity? It will hammer your bill

Could there be any chance that someone has tapped into your supply downstream of the meter? Someone say growing weed? As seemingly it's rife nowadays...

After doing the above, it might be worth getting an electrician to check there isn't a fault.
