If that's their plan, then they'll have to dig in very, very deep now that the Ukrainians have M777s.
They can sit out of range of the Russians and gradually pound their forward positions to bits.
We may even see the return of the creeping barrage.
The Russians released footage of them finding some of those 777s and dropping some light munitions on them via drone (near miss it looks) then shelling the forest the 777s dispersed into. Now I dunno if they hit them but I do know that you do not want to be in a forest when artillery starts turning trees into high velocity splinters
There seems to be a trend with a lot of commentators that Ukraine can't put a foot wrong and that the Russians are all gross incompetents, not the case
I guess we'll find out when we see which way the front line starts to move.
You saw one video of a single drone dropping a small bomb and missing .
It's not a big deal
I am not so sure about this.
It looks like Russia have finally learned some lessons in all this. They are concentrating their forces and attacking in strength.
I don't think so .
They have access to supply lines and Ukrainians are pushing to cut them off which leaves them in exactly the same situation that Russia has faced since day one ,
Where are they attacking Francie so that we track their progress? Severodonetsk?
Johndonjoe will have a Twitter interweb link
Programme on RTE 1 about "The Wagner Group"
started at 10.45
Longer video here, shows them dispersing into wooded area that's then targeted by MLRS, no idea of damage but again, wooded area under artillery fire is not a good place to be. Apparently geolocated to around 20km from Russian front lines so they pushed those 777s right up to front. And frankly expecting the Russians to stay stupid forever is a bad assumption, darwinism kicks in at a point.

I don't really buy this notion that supply lines favour Ukraine in the east.
It's 1,500km's from the Ukraine-Poland border to Kramatorsk. It's just 80km from Russian controlled Donetsk to Kramatorsk.
Not really that impressed that a supposedly professional fighting force has taken 2 months or so to really grasp a concept which a 5 year old could probably see the wisdom in.
According to Ukraine itself, these are the population centres that are under attack.
In the Donetsk direction, russian enemy continues to attack in the Lyman, Severodonetsk, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Kurakhiv directions.
I am very much for Ukraine in all this, don't get me wrong. But if Russia are going to concentrate and attack across a very narrow front, they will progress, even if it is slow, and it's at great cost to both sides.
with snake island the Russians will be able to control the skies for their push toward trandnistra, in time
What's everyone's thinking on the raping, pillaging and killing of civilians.
Were they taught that during their training?
Were they commanded by the higher ups to perpetrate these atrocities?
Or did they take it onto themselves to do so?
Anyone know any former Russian soldiers who can shed some light on relatively recent training practices? (say, going back to Syria for example).
i don’t care for it
well it happened alot when the russians arrived in germany, not much has changed since
The Moscow Times said that Russia started to withdraw some of its forces from Syria to enhance its presence in Ukraine, and that Iranian-backed militias entered the sites from which the Russian forces had withdrawn
If you saw the programme on the wagner fcuks tonight then you'd have seen that it's pretty much Russian policy. Kill anyone the might represent a threat, rape the women and rob as much as you can. Kill innocents and burn their bodies. We're not seeing anomalies in Ukraine. We're seeing Russian policy. They're scum.
the above political map of Ukraine tells a similar tale of where this conflict will end, barring the central provinces in blue all the rest is on Russias plate
Only in Vlad's dreams. All the information coming from Ukraine is that even the Russian speaking regions have gone pro Ukraine. There is still a separatist rump in the 2014 invasion regions by all accounts but that is it, a rump. There is nothing like occupiers to turn inoffensive slightly pro Russian people into anti Nazi partizans. Crimea is however a separate "plantation" story.
They control the skies over the black sea already
Why have Russia edited the video ,
That map is so politically dated, it may as well come from the early 20th century so long ago 2010 is in Ukrainian history terms.
Next time you bump into a Ukrainian refugee in Ireland, ask them both where they're from and if they would countenance backing a pro-Russia or Russian appeasing party ever again.
What you'll note about them is that the refugees are almost all from the oblasts colored blue, almost all Russian first-language speakers, and a significant amount of them ethnic Russians. Highly likely they'll spit on the ground in front of you as you ask the question such would it's stupidity be.
Interesting article (original in Russian, so I've posted the google translated link.) Seems like the FSB agents who provide info to Putin are just as detached from reality as he is, and a bunch of incompetents largely held in disdain by their peers - privately, of course.

My thinking is that many of the conscript troops they've thrown in are the for the most part poorly trained and probably poorly disciplined. Add to this their extremely flat command structure or having an overloaded top-brass officer micro-managing on the front-line (and likely shot in the process), you end up with a bunch of over-hyped out of control idiots who'll do all those horrible things to people they suddenly have control over.
Beyond their actions being disgusting and frankly evil; they are making a serious tactical mistake by not treating civilians well. Now that it is known what the Russians do to people they capture, Ukrainian troops are far more likely to fight them to the death, not only for themselves but for the sake of any civilians behind their position. By letting their conscripts behave like stupid evil little f**kheads, they've made this fight harder for themselves, and with any luck justice will come for them in the end...in whatever form that takes....
This has been the russian policy for hundreds of years
