Snake Island appears to be fully under the control of the Russians at this stage, any chance it will ever be liberated relying on a few drones clearing it of SAMs every so often seem dim, its dire straits for the snakes
there is now no electricity in Luhansk region, the last substation is gone
Quite a lot of the use of the word surrender in this Sky News report.
Obviously they wanted to one up the poster of Russian soldiers from WW2 depicting Bonnie and Clyde
Not unless they mount a airborne or helibourne assault , they don't have any naval assets to put troops on it ,
While it's somewhat strategic there is very little on the island to hold or to fortify worth to be worth the hassle
The swiss government is pushing ahead with with plans to buy 30+ F35s from the States ,
At this rate the whole of Europe will be flying the most advanced military aircraft currently flying , meanwhile Russian jets are using off the shelf gps and pen and paper to find targets
I think any victories for Russia in this invasion are very likely to be a Pyrrhic ones.
I also think clumsy Pravda-level editorialising from our media will make absolutely no difference to that.
I'd say there are some very nervous sailors on that boat
GLF6 https://fr24.com/GLF6/2be7ae2c
This GLF6 appears to be flying over European airspace from Vienna to maybe Crimea or further on into Russia.
Who would be able to do this?
@greenpilot any ideas?
Edit: unsure what is happening there. It appears to have jumped direction just out from Crimea. Originally flight was heading straight for Crimea.
Perhaps the situation isn't as rosy as some are saying.
Hi Vladimir!
It's just an ordinary Gulfstream, I'm afraid. Still flying at Fl43. Out of Vienna. Just a private jet. Reg is not available.
there's a lot of Jamming and interference going on around the Black Sea, same near Kaliningrad, hence the strange positioning of the aircraft earlier.
That's what I warned about earlier in the thread. This war is far from a done deal and Ukraine still has an uphill struggle ahead of itself. Whilst Russia doesn't have the endless supplies of manpower it once enjoyed, they still have a lot of bodies to throw into the meat grinder and enough equipment to act as Javelin sponges to smother any defensive efforts in sheer numbers.
The big advantage that Ukraine has is its tactical and logistical superiority. They seem so far to have been able to avoid getting major units encircled, with the exception of the Mariupol garrison, and are generally willing to fall back if it gives them an advantage. At the same time, they have been able to exploit local advantages for counteroffensives, such as the push on Kherson and the counteroffensive around Kharkiv. I just hope that they will be able to continue playing to their strengths.
It looks bad. They're saying Severodonetsk is the next Mariupol. severodonetsk - Twitter Search / Twitter
Russia is making some slight gains close to their own lines where there artillery and rockets are still effective and have access to supplies , but if ukraine keeps pushing forward they can cut the supply lines leaving Russians in a dangerous position , leaving the only option to fall back closer to Russia
Short insight from one of the civilians stuck at the plant for 60 days
"They are adapting to being outside again," said Katerina.
"Seeing them running around in the sun again is the best feeling in the world."
She remembers all three of them being "blinded by light" as they finally emerged after two months in their dark refuge under the steel plant.
As the two boys duck and dive behind the trees in the park, they pretend they're fighting Russians. At one point they drop to the ground and shout 'cover your ears'. One gives the shout of 'all clear' and they stand up and get going again.
Gerhard Schroeder, the former German chancellor, is set to be stripped of his taxpayer funded staff and office in the Bundestag amid deep concern about his links to Vladimir Putin, writes James Rothwell in Berlin.
According to German state broadcaster ARD, Mr Schroeder will keep his pension and bodyguards but will lose access to the office under a motion proposed by the Bundestag's budget committee.
The motion is part of efforts to reform privileges for former German chancellors and may be extended to Angela Merkel as well as her successors, ARD reported on Wednesday.
But it is also linked to Mr Schroeder's reputation as an unashamedly pro-Russia politician as well as his background in lobbying for major Russian energy companies.
Mr Schroder is said to have angered colleagues in the ruling Social Democrats party for refusing to abandon his work as a Gazprom lobbyist since the outbreak of the Ukraine war and for generally having a close relationship with Russia.
As other users have said. The Russians have been making small gains each day in the South but gains are gains, villages are villages. North East seems now secure, but the south is a whole different thing. I'd even be worried over Odessa.
I’m not sure these gains are relevant. They are attacking and taking massive losses for minor gains. It may not look terrible on the map but behind the scenes the military could be degrading rapidly. Things could turn really bad for the Russians fast. The west just need to keep the supplies pouring into Ukraine.
The west needs to keep supplying them with the big artillery guns, the ones they got are good, but they need more
germany has been sleepwalking into this situation for years
I'd be very interested in knowing specifically what villages they've taken in the last month. There's very little change in the frontline on https://liveuamap.com/en/time/18.05.2022 but I don't know how unbiased it is.
Does problem with getting funding for Ukraine passed through the completely dysfunctional and useless US Congress (well the Senate bit) affect anything?
Obstructed by 1 senator, Rand Paul, (R of course!). He says he's doing it for the good of America (not Putin or Russia!) apparently, and ""We cannot save Ukraine by dooming the US economy."
Poposna is one, there are couple of links:

Sleepwalking me hole, knew full well what they were at and if Vlad had steamrollered Ukraine it would have been business as usual.
I came across this particular piece of misinformation which tbf has to be amongst the most hillarious of them all I've seen so far.
A pro Russian YouTube paid channel reporting on the Wagner group denazifying a base of the Azov battalion...
Pls note: I took a screen grab of the video because having stumbled over the channel - I refuse to drive any earnings or traffic in support of their efforts regardless of how clueless these eejits really are.
Popasna is a very good example. They first started attacking that village on the 28th of March.
It's taken them the guts of 2 months to take it. Similar to Mariupol. And in that time they've been rebuffed from Kyiv, Sumy and Kharkiv.
Breaking news: Ukraine are destroying their own cities - https://twitter.com/shaunwalker7/status/1526924670775308292?s=20&t=mbm9rrCALnA0EZrzxjVsDA
3 killed, 6 wounded as result of Russian shelling with MLRS GRAD yesterday
That's true in the short term, but over the long term they cant sponge anything they wont be able to keep pace with the levels of attrition they will be suffering, ive never really doubted Russia's ability to take some regions but there ability to hold them.... the sheer cost and losses they are facing will eventually buckle them.
