That’s the size on a finger.
ya that's a dung beetle, a good guy and a good indication of biodiversity and soil fauna
Anyone here have maggots yet. A neighbour had 2 with them during the week.
Yeah, two hoggets yesterday, but they were a bit dirty.
Was dagging sheep yesterday and came across a couple with maggots. This week coming will be torture for maggots, wet and warm
Early enough for them. I'd love to shear mine now but don't think they will be fit for a few more weeks. Have got a few on their backs aswell the last fortnight. Have them on an outfarm so hard to watch them.
The Lleyn influence here seems to stop them going on their backs, very seldom have one and don't shear until August.
We clik the ewes now and it seems to protect the lambs from maggots until weaning
I do it the other way around & haven’t had ewes get maggots when lambs are done
Clik's a great product, God help us if maggots ever get a resistance to it like the stomach worms have to the wormers.
There are other ways of dealing with flies besides synthetic chemicals so I wouldn't panic.
In marts/factory lairages now you seldom see lambs that were destoyed by maggots whereas 30 years ago it was a different story.
Unfortunately it still happens
Lucky we're not going backwards so
How do you deal with them Herd?
Heard /read somewhere that lads use to dip them in the sea long ago, which apparently kept flies away? You’d have that fairly close to hand I imagine 🙂
Easier piss on them, and probably the same result.
There are organisms which can be applied to land which seek out flies in the soil, reduce the burden considerably. Can be done for ticks also. But.... requires knowledge. And... can be done by a farmer with that knowledge which is why big agri won't be bothered.
Jaysus, you’d want to be storing it up for the year if you had any big numbers 😆
I've some non synthetic chemical stuff here I'm going to mix up and spray on the sheep when lambing is done, see how effective it is or isn't against ticks and flies
If you can't depend on a product, you might as well not do it at all. I'd often take a weeknd off and not see them. You wouldn't be able to do that with any product other than Clik.
Everyone seems to dilute Clik now as well it's so effective
That's very black & white thinking. If the makers of Clik thought that way you wouldn't be at sheep.
Shouldn't overthink it, I just use what works for me. k.i.s.s.
Anyone on here have any experience with youngs vector? Its on offer at my local glanbia..would it be a poor substitute for clik?
Yeah no thanks, held hostage to inputs.
lambs need to be done here because of withdrawal period but I'm reluctant with the heavier showers going about. not much sign of any improvement in the weather, nearly every day has rain forecast
It's rainfast very quick. and can be used on damp sheep, not wet sheep though.
I think they may have changed there stance on that after product breaking down earlier last year
Data sheet looks to have changed slightly too but I could be wrong
Looking at buying an older charollais ram for running with ewe lambs next year, neighbor has a 5 year old ram, would you be concerned with his age? In the past iv always bought rams as hogget's but this year I'm planning on keeping my replacements, thanks!
First ewe with fly strike here last night. She was sectioned 6 weeks ago and was mud fat. got a fair surprise when put my hand on her back last night.
Sheep.....Was delighted how the pet lambs had done this year, no runt in them. Had just 2 left on milk who got their last feed last night, one of the 2 was dead this morning. You'd need patience.....
will do the same job as clickzin, will give you 6-8 weeks cover
wouldnt be concerned at all. Plus you get to see his lambs too
Is Ectofly any good?
