Anyone know the start date for this?
Loads of new bike stations are set up now around the city. Hopefully this will take off, looks a great idea.
I see the one down by Super Value at Kilbarry.
What other locations are they at ?
Apparently these are the stations currently planned
i hope the arseholes dont ruin it!
A bit unfortunate that there's none at the railway station.
Anyone North of the river will have to walk into town to get a bike.
Wishful thinking.
Too hilly for a bike scheme.
good exercise....
Whats your next excuse, it rains too much?
I commuted by bike in Waterford for almost a decade, its not too hilly. Yes there are some hills but its still perfectly do-able by bike and its really efficient as well.
Worst case, walk up the hill, it's not like a hill is gonna be 3 miles! I wouldn't pay much attention to that lad
Read somewhere they're looking at kicking it off in March. Hope this works out, i think its a brilliant idea. With the bus services being completely unreliable this is a great alternative. Be handy after after the pub as well 😁
I agree. Waterford's not that hilly. Tis hardly the Alps or the Pyrenees eh? Cycled around town for years; to school; to college; first couple of jobs & now recreationally. Besides there's always alternative routes if a few hills put you off. Should have a bike station over @ the train though. Maybe its on the way?Dont be worried about a'holes ruining it for everyone. To use a bike you'll have to register, sign up, provide details including payment, which would be used in the event of loss/theft.
14th May was told by the company that commissions the stations
About time, looking forward to checking them out!
😁 I read the first 6 months are free for anyone who signs up for it in the first week.
Something must have gone wrong in Arundel Square. After installing the posts and relaying the paving bricks, they’re digging up the bricks again this morning.
Same with the one in Kilcohan yesterday. All dug up, but was cleaned up again that evening.
Same at the top of the folly, dug up behind the bike stands
No sign of Waterford on TFI bike website yet, might use it now and then.
Although next time I'm in Waterford on a bike I hope it to be a cargobike (provided I can bring it on the train!)
can those cargo bikes be folded, id say it would be a problem on the train if not?
Nope not generally. with the exception of a Gazelle Cabby I'm not aware of any cargobike that can be folded.
I have heard of people bringing the odd on on the train, but I'll need to test it out with my one when I eventually get the thing.
Here's an example of one, but you can get other designs like the long tail (no box at the front)
thats a fine looking bike, my concern with the train is the more modern trains are not exactly designed for bringing such loads, they dont have the cargo holds of the older trains, which is a pity, we really do need to make our public transport more open to such, we really should be doing what other countries do such as adding bike carriers to buses and trains etc
Yeah the Urban Arrow bikes are lovely, way out of my ballpark though so I had to settle for a bakfiets.
Looking at Irishrail website you can certainly book in bikes now, but from my understanding they have limited space per train and its basically first come, first served so still not a guarantee. I've seen photos of where people often have the bikes and it looks like it might take a cargo bike.
I guess the only way to find out is book a ticket some day for a trip to Waterford and back and see, I'll add a trip report to the greenway thread if it happens.
Anyway, following my comment about the TFI website, they've now added Waterford!

14 stations, 220 bikes according to the website, but the map only shows 7 stations right now
There's definitely a stand at SETU on the Cork Road. We just got the attached leaflet by email announcing the scheme was live (weird map - it's rotated 90 degrees, presumably to make it bigger, but it's confusing to anyone with a sense of where north should be)
It was similar in Cork before the system went online as a whole. It generally depends on which stations are hooked up to power. You'll probably see stations popping in and out prior to the system going live.
So after delays it seems the bike scheme is due to go live shortly, they were putting the bikes into docks yesterday

Excellent, they will look nice in Johns River.
Funny, numerous people said the same about the Dublin bike scheme. They were very much proved wrong and thats why schemes like Bleeper bike have also proved a success.
You have to remember they are locked when not in use, its not like they are left around on footpaths unlocked or not attached to things,
Are they not including Kilcohan in this scheme anymore? Im certain i saw some stands for the bikes in the area few weeks back.
Yes, it's there in the app.
Yep, there were around 3-4 bikes there yesterday and today in Kilcohan.
