The post that I quoted was in connection with Ireland joining NATO but you seem to be going off on a tangent that suits your own agenda as per usual.
40bn. blocked https://twitter.com/TimeToVoteRed/status/1524887095805784065?s=20&t=r9KBklYkFh05g0DlI35Ozw
You do be the one going on tangents. The vast majority of NATO troops are volunteer soldiers, who join pledging to defend their way of life.
Your post implies people being forced to fight for NATO, which is far from the truth.
For you 2+2=fish.
You do realise that I would only be in favor of it because of the existential risk to the country. The best way to avoid that war is through collective defense. A small defenseless country next to russia is far more likely to be invaded. It will be dominated. It will have frozen conflicts. Parts of it will be occupied. As we've seen in Georgia & Ukraine.
So yes, the best way to avoid a huge aggressor is to join a club of other countries that agree to defend each other.
Delayed moreso than blocked. Unsurprising from him though.
As far as I can tell it would be more like "in conjunction with".
The Lend-Lease Act might make certain things easier like a speedier approvals process and less restrictions on items which can be exported; it also reduces the burden on Ukraine in terms of timescales for returning or paying for items.
However it seems likely that the actual dollar values concerned will be governed by the $40 billion spending bill in front of Congress. So it is actually quite important it gets passed sharpish; as Biden's current spending authority I believe is down to $100 million.
Nobody would be required to go to war , but and as always the kicker applies we sit here and expect American, British and other countries to send troops to defend our Island now or in the future because we haven't the ability to do so .
Iceland don't supply troops
Supplying troops isn't a necessity to be a NATO member....
if we could beef up our radar and cyber defences it would a great addition
There are some american politicians that seem to make a living out of being contrary. In such a massive country one of a hundred politicians can hold an inordinate amount of power.
Boys V Men.
"Comrades, we are going into Azovstal to rid it of Ukrainian Nazi's - With Me!!! Erm, comrades did none of you hear me... WITH MEEEE!!!
Er, Uri, what are you doing - careful where you point that, URI, UURIIIII!'
What do people think at this point is more likely?
Russia collapsing/regime change* and ending hostilities with withdrawl to Russian territory.
Or
Ukrainian military defeat with withdrawal to Eastern Ukraine and significant concessions to Russia in cease-fire/peace deal due to worse negotiating position.
It seems to me to be the latter, I think Russia are likely to keep up offensive and break through the well dug in and prepared Ukrainian military before anything major happens domestically in Russia to change situation. Probably would be best to go to negotiated solution with its military majority intact.
*assuming that regime change wouldn't just bring even more hardliner leader in Russia as there are plenty
For more advanced missiles and tank production and electronics you need high grade semi conductors, and you wont find that in consumer equipment
Zelensky is open to Russia keeping Crimea. Keeping the Donbas is more tricky because any reward will entice Putin or successors to try for more. Crimea was Ukrainian in name only.
BUT, you've got to ask yourself who has the bigger stomach for this Russian soldiers and command or Ukrainians? There may be more cannon fodder on the Russian side, but the motivation is vastly superior on the Ukranian side. Ukraine is being equipped with better weapons than the Russians have. Ukraine is getting financial support. Russia is bleeding soldiers, finances and basics to keep their country going. Where is the upside to Russia continuing the fight - very little apart from Putin's pride. There is MASSIVE incentive on the Ukrainian side to keep fighting.
So, I think a protracted battle of months/years until Russia exhausts itself. Hopefully that's months rather than years.
Technically/pedantically it wasn't 😋🤣
Well we have seen that to often in Ukraine lol
If they really needed it i am sure their ally China would provide it,except for high grade semi conductors, thats only made in US,South Korea and Taiwan, and they all sanction Russia
No its not a war,its a special operation, and you cant force conscripts to fight in another country when its only for defence.
Thats what conscripts are for, defending your own country, not invade other countries.
Shouldnt really mess with Iceland, they defeated UK and Germany in the Cod wars
If they can retake Kherson they would look like they're winning.
Putin's health. Dunno if this is true.
Speculation around Vladimir Putin's health has circulated for several years, but has only intensified since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine.
Now, New Lines magazine reports it has obtained an audio recording of an oligarch close to the Kremlin who describes the Russian president as "very ill with blood cancer", although the type of blood cancer was not specified.
It says a "top-secret memo" was sent out by the headquarters of the FSB, Russia’s domestic security agency, to all its regional directors.
Christo Grozev, the head of investigations at Bellingcat, a well-respected forensic research website, said: "The memo instructed the regional chiefs not to trust rumours about the president's terminal condition.
"The directors were further instructed to dispel any rumors to this effect that may spread within the local FSB units. According to a source at one of the regional units who saw the memo, this unprecedented instruction had the opposite effect, with most FSB officers suddenly coming to believe that Putin indeed suffers from a serious medical condition."

There hasn't been conscription in Ireland since Gaelic Ireland, just think about what has happened in the last 800 years and there was never conscription. So what are you on about?
Watch out for Bellingcat, they are the basically the unofficial leakers for the Pentagon. Have dodgy history with Syria info.
If, and it's a big if, he's really ill, that makes it harder to predict what he'll do. If he's faced with the complete destruction of his "Legacy" and his reputation being tarnished in history books, what actions will he take?
War often comes to people, especially with Communist Russia.
Even if we lived in a world without State led war, we would need a good Navy and Army, proper radar etc
Again your taking a quote of mine entirely, deliberately and completely out of all context so you can appear to be getting outraged at something I said.
get informed not faux outraged!
Exactly something some of us have been saying for years on here we need all of that first and foremost before anything else is discussed,
Finland and Sweden have extremely good enough defense capabilities they built up from scratch and to built to their needs and yet they are still running to Nato ,
We have little or no defensive capability to even begin with ,ah sure it will be grand every other country will send their sons and daughters to defend us so its nothing to worry about ( what kinda mentality is that )
Finland will become a Nato backwater-russian spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said Russia would “definitely” see Finnish membership as a threat
There will be no Ukraine military defeat, the West, and in particular, the US, is keen to push for Ukraine to drive the Russians back to pre-Feb borders. There will be lots of taking and re-taking of land and towns, but there will come a time when munitions stocks will run low on the Russian side. That's when desperation will rise to the occasion. Its at that point when the West needs to either risk a major escalation in the war ( with Russias back to the wall and the use of a tactical nuke or other WMD becoming attractive), or be prepared to give Russia a way out while saving face, with no Ukranian defeat. The support that Ukrainian forces are getting from the West is beyond vast and can continue for years. Russia cannot. I think the US is seizing the opportunity to whittle down Russias capabilities and world standing under the Umbrella of NATO, and that's fine, so long as there is an off-ramp presented to Putin. Don't underestimate how proud Russians are. They would do anything for the Motherland.
I agree. I come from an Army house. The consensus here is simple. We need to join Nato and receive all the strategic, technical and logistical knowhow that comes with joining. The Irish Army are really, really good at some things ( counter-terrorism, bomb disposal and IED disposal and sniping). The rest needs a major, major overhaul. Starting with pay and accommodation fit for purposes especially for young Army families. Then a strategic airlift capability, then an adequate radar or radars to cover our airspace. Start from there and move on.
