A very surprising admission on one of the state TV shows. A military expert suggests that mobilisation would be a total waste of time, because the Ukrainian army is much better equipped than the Russian one currently and has far superior and modern hardware. Not often you hear such honesty on these shows.
Use that to justify spending a few years spending big on weapons maybe?
but, but... the nukes and the hypersonics
some footage of the Republic knocking out an Empirical outpost
Well, they were spending big, but that money ended up in their own pockets. You think spending more would change something? Prob would buy a better car or bigger house. And where will they get required guns and materials for their weapons from?
At least he seems to be ignoring all that BS. It probably helps that he is an actual military expert, not one of those Grade A spoofers and clowns from the Russian parliament they usually have on.
One thing Briany, that Russian military "thinking" has never shied away from is meat grinder tactics, only sadly they, or their rulers, don't see it as senseless. Indeed they've made it a part of their glorious military, sacrifice your sons and daughters to the Motherland death cult to be celebrated since Napoleon, through the Revolution, through Barbarossa, Afghanistan, even in dealing with something like Chernobyl(which to be fair saved millions, not unlike WW2). So it's again sadly not a shock that their rulers are turning the meat grinder again. And even more sadly that ordinary Russians are buying into that bullshít. Again. Though not a shock as it's an incredibly pivotal trend in their cultural narrative and one their rulers are only too happy to push and exploit.
Just goes to show how bad it is for many ordinary Russians now that they long for the "Good Old Days, under communism...", (well they have one part of it back anyway,,,,they can no longer speak their minds again. Its something, I suppose.... ) The Communist party is still very much alive and well in Russia, and increasing in popularity, but no matter how well they do in Elections, even with a massive voter turn out, Putins United Russia always wins. There are areas where they have won Nrs-wise, but this has proved problematic for their own leadership....they know full well that there are lines that cannot be crossed. Its one thing to rant and rail against Putins Russia, but it's another to actually do something about it.
In neighbouring countries, Russians take in you.
ukraine is too large for them
I think the term for them is vapourware.
They probably exist on paper but the funds never made to purchase the actual equipment.
The S400s are deployed all over Crimea; plus Russia and Belarus. The S300s are in the Donbass and possibly some around Mariupol and/or southern Kherson or Zaporizhzhia.
The S300 system that would have been covering Snake Island was on the Moskva which has been sunk; and that opened up this area of Ukraine for air operations. Hence why we've now started seeing TB2 footage where we haven't seen any for some time.
So Russia does have some amount of air superiority over southern and eastern Ukraine; but it's not enough for them to be able to conduct higher altitude operations or spend much time over Ukrainian controlled territory.
Or else ( and more than likely) the funds were available and handed over, but same as the funds that were made available to massively overhaul and modernize the military after the war in Georgia, to make the Russian military one of the best equipped and trained armies in the world, and this is what Ukraine is facing now, and we can all see the results of that "Modernization", perhaps its more visible in the oligarchs fleets of super yachts, private jets, and mansions around the world.
On news person on Sky just talked and Northern Ireland and mentioned unionists and nationalists.
Thing is what seems to be lost in translation nationalists in Ukraine are translated to Nazi.
So?
SKY are talking to a Western audience.
The Kremlin created a narrative that Ukrainians are "Nazi's", committing genocide and so on.
When Russia TV refair to Ukraine Nationalist seen on TV they refair to them as Nazi.
It's an outrageous slur. The biggest party in Ukraine is "Servant of the People" and it's described as centrist and liberal - probably something along the lines of Fine Gael (or Fianna Fáil perhaps). To describe them as "Nazis" is desperate stuff.
And when most people around these here parts refer to Russia TV people today, they consider them less intelligent than amoeba (which is actually a great insult to the intelligence of your average amoeba).
Sorry, did you have a point?, I got caught up on my disparaging of Russian propaganda again there
Russian can't win, Ukraine getting stronger everyday, they'll continue to bomb russian in the areas they hold, until they can't hold them no more. Hard to see Russia backing down, so could end badly with a nuke on kyiv
former general says long war favours russia
Observer status with the EU Parliament group Alliances of Liberals & Democrats, including FF & Emmanuel Macrons party & British Lib Dems.
FG would be allied with Christian Democratic parties including Angela Merkel's CDU.
Despite what many still claim FF & FG are not Tories, as the British Conservative party is firmly opposed to traditional European Christian Democratic / pro EU politics.
They just detained Bald & Bankrupt at Baikonur Cosmodrome.
Those Baskets!!!
The morons. And if you’ve ever watched Bald, you’ll see that he manages to produce a softened and nostalgic view of Soviet Russia on is trip videos, while also somehow doing it in a way that’s organic and not pro-Kremlin propaganda. He’s the last guy they should have been detaining if they ever hoped to recover a slither of good PR.
He did go around a load of Ukraine last year which did also produced a softened view of that country (It’s kind of what he does). Maybe the Russians were pissed about that?
Western News terminology for Nazi is ‘far right’, not nationalist. I was surprised to hear RTE referring to Azov battalion in Mariupol as far right several times. As they said it more than once it was not an accident, it was intentional. Would love to know their rationale for thinking they had to describe them as such.
He was just questioned and given a fine for viewing something without permission
If it had any sense it would head for for Not Russia and ask for asylum.
"Landing of an enemy helicopter with a landing on Snake Island. Something went wrong 😂"
"EU Considers Insurance Ban for Ships Carrying Russian Oil
Shipowners say they won’t carry crude if they can’t insure vessels against environmental damage
The embargo within Europe would cut Russia off from what has historically been the biggest export market for its oil. Sanctions on insurance would hamper exports to buyers in Asia and elsewhere because European companies insure most of the world’s oil trade."

Apparently it needs a unanimous vote so Orban will do his usual snake in the grass act.
"Britain will provide additional military assistance to Ukraine for $1.6 billion.
This is almost double britain's previous spending commitments to Ukraine. Additional funds will come from the emergency reserve after coordination with the Ministry of Finance, the Guardian reports, citing a statement by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
In particular, the package includes counterbattery radar systems, GPS jamming equipment and night vision devices.
This is the highest level of BRITISH military spending since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan."
Way to go Borris. He's a very complicated person. I don't think his actions or approach to this issue are driven by UK domestic politics and trying to look good, I think he's doing it because it's morally right and he sees a once in a century opportunity to FU Russia and knock them down a couple pegs or more. Payback for the Litvinenko and Skripal escapades would just be icing.
The Fun continues for the Garrison on snake island as an attempt to reinforce the area has been thwarted.
One dead MI-8 Helicopter and no chance any of the troops that managed to disembark survived the fiery inferno.
