2022 WTA Tour
2022 ATP Tour
Qualies action should begin tomorrow (December 31st) so time to get the thread underway.
Here's to hoping we'll see some great tennis/storylines this year.
Fantastic result 😎 Hope he doesn't ruin it by losing in the final now. Obviously he'd much rather play Tsitsipas instead of Zverev.
Hes unreal , but he wont be the french open fav. Actually he literally isnt .
This is why the MSM is just completely detached from reality, "shocks Djokovic" ??
Really ? What a ridiculous headline the only shock today would have been if Djokovic had won, he did well to lose 7-6 in the 3rd, Alcaraz the clear favourite, and believe it or not was also the favourite yesterday.
Mind you BBC has always been appalling for any tennis coverage/analysis outside of Wimbledon.
He's not but the odds are literally shortening on Alcaraz and lengthening on Nadal for RG
It's now down to about 2/1 plays 6/4
Nadal is always going to start favourite there if not injured due to the record he has and due to the fact that Alcaraz has less experience over 5 sets.
And as said, the altitude of Madrid is more to Alcaraz's liking than Nadal's (and Djokovic also).
At the highest elite level things like that make a difference.
Rome next week would be more informative.
Im just saying he wont be fav for every match like the last poster said. Not quite yet, but its close. Like he still has lost a good few matchs this year although hes only been 18! Its hard to see him not dominating though.
Alcaraz is 5/2 where im looking , Nadal 7/5 and djocko 11/4
So. Much. Hyperbole.
as low as 2 to 1 and the trend is shortening on Alcaraz and going longer on Nadal
https://www.oddschecker.com/tennis/french-open/mens/mens-french-open/winner
But he isnt favourite man, like that was my point.
Its a lot of hyperbole for a bloke whos 1 GS quarter final to his name , but with the current crop of youngsters its hard not to see him winning between 5-10 at a minimum.
yes I never said otherwise and explained why Nadal is pretty much always going to be favourite even now unless injured
but if Alcaraz wins here and wins Rome also next week then it could be a case of co-favourites or even Alcaraz favourite if he beats Nadal and Djokovic again in conditions that will be more like RG
The poster said he will be favourite in every match he plays. That is false.
you have not proved that poster wrong though!
a tournament is not a match
a match is a concrete line-up between two players
like the way Alcaraz was favourite yesterday against the world number 2 Nadal on his best surface and he won
like the way he was favourite against world number 1 Djokovic today and won
Alcaraz has been favourite for every match he has played for the last 6 weeks or so against everyone including the highest ranked players in the world and all of them bar 1
If Alcaraz and Nadal are to meet at the French open it's not known right now who would be favourite, especially with a good number of big matches in both Rome and Paris before the point they might meet which will influence who is actually favourite in, the, match
Didn't watch the match, but good to see Jabeur get title #2, and a pretty big one to boot.
He was 100% not fav today. Djock was 8/11. You are complelty wrong
Alcaraz was favourite on Oddschecker which averages the price out over many bookies so I'm going with that
that was pre-match
I'm sure that Djokovic was favourite after the first set lol but that's not cricket.
Djockovic was 8/11 on PP directly before the match. Im sure he was 1/4 after the first set. Maybe you dont get how betting works
saw it with my own eyes my son on the odds average site which is most representative
I don't rate some PP chump tennis punter oddsmaker as the definitive word
and I certainly know the difference between a match and a future tournament more importantly.
also most importantly I temporarily forgot that it's best not to bother engaging with repeat banned posters as there's always a reason for those bans that soon becomes apparent- duh on me!
And here's a match preview confirming Alcaraz as the favourite
and another one (- / minus indicates the favourite)
Alcaraz is an incredible player but bit of perspective here, Djokovic has been a shadow of the player he was last year so far this year. He took this to a final set decider against the most in form player on tour. Given current form I expected Alcaraz in straight sets.
Djokovic of last year would win in straight sets
Who says Djokovic of last year is coming back, the man is 35 this month.
Djocko looks finished , no tournament wins this year.
Playing Alcaraz is a whole different kettle of fish as he brings a unique combination of athleticism (can get to any shot), physicality / power and brilliant shot-making (best drop shot on tour hands-down).
It's hard to say how Djokovic of last year would have done as Djokovic of last year didn't have to face anything like Alcaraz
Djokovic wasn't amazing all of last year - he was not that great at Wimbledon for example
Djokovic served pretty well today actually and managed to keep some of Alcaraz's weapons at bay until the third set
He did pretty well and he has also progressed pretty well in a short time since coming back playing
The match today really fired up his competitive spirit which is a good development
Remember at the end there was only a tight tie-break in it
Compelling match to watch
Will be interesting if they meet again, even maybe before RG
Looks like Zverev is going to get through - makes it a more interesting match-up for Alcaraz as Alcaraz has beaten Tsitsipas, and the two recent occasions handily enough
He has played like 3-4 tournaments in the whole of 2022 having not played for like 4 months
Jesus if that’s Djokovic finished then I’ll take it in terms of playing tennis. It does need to be taken into account he’s not played much tennis in 2022 and so he’s probably not in the same pre French open shape he’d normally be but finished he isn’t.
Haha me too sir , me too. I think he is mentally though more so than anything else. We will see ,and by finished i only mean i dont think he will win another slam.
Alcaraz is just trolling Zverev here at this stage.
Absolutely spanked.
Just in the door, was hoping to maybe see a second set, match already over! Great result.
Alcaraz setting loads of 'youngest ever' records already. Will he win a slam before the year is out?
