My guess on why Russia hasn't had the same impact is to do with their lack of preparation with drones and too much over reliance on hardware. Turkey had been helping Ukraine with drone warfare with lessons learned from the Turkey/Russia proxy war between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Yeah, that wasn't hit and hope. That was guided munitions. Major step up and potential game changer.
In ww3 I recall average combat lifespan for a tank was measured in minutes nevermind hours. This was based on full on NATO v Russia conflict.
We can see here why - if using guided munitions tanks are little more than coffins. BUT, where is the Russian equivalent? Why haven't they wiped out Ukrainian tanks, positions much more quickly.

That's partly because they are getting thin on the ground. Ukraine now has tank parity with the Russians.

Peace partner status is sort of a halfway house.... you don't get article 5 treatment, but you get presence and support off NATO... Malta is an example of this.

Might be time to invent some new kind of NATO protected state status without the need to go through the full membership shenanigans and announce that at midnight on the 8th to ruin his parade.

I really don't know where to get a good source on Ukraine at all. The war is appalling and I guess all we can do in Ireland is try to help the victims of the war.

It’s hard to comprehend how the civilised world is supposed to deal with this in the medium term.

Eastern Europe looks at Hungary with wary eyes as a dodgy little shi7hole. It looks West to Germany and Austria with a frankly disturbing loathing. That's going to be affecting European politics for 20 years.

the bigger picture maybe that the Hungarian's may have been on the way to being swayed to ditch NATO and give Russia it's land bridge to Serbia..
