I see Mary Lou is joining the compo culture brigade with a defamation lawsuit against RTE.
So no relevance.
Another attempt to shut down the conversation. How many times now Francie?
If the above is fact, then she will lose her case and be left with a huge legal bill. So what’s the issue??
So far, you have made the following sensationalist comments or inferred them
SF are trying to shut down the media.
SF are trying to shut down chat shows.
If SF were M. D. Higgins they would try and shut down comedians.
And something something Chay Bowes/P. Cosgrave
That about right?
what relevance is this? first it is behind and paywall? second was a defamation case taken in this instance?
Just aswell noone is sueing national media for that, then isnt it
How can you qs someone on a segment,if they arent represented at same time?
Looks to me,it was poorly taught out assertions being put out as facts, now has taxpayer likely having to stump up cost,if she win this case, take it out of the presenters wages,
That's an embarrassing foot in mouth there BA, given the 'media's' campaign (see Kathy Sheridan in the Irish Times) attempts to shut Oliver Callan down. Cheap personal shots at 'certain' politicians she means, no outcry from Kathy when 'certain other' politicians are demeaned as witches etc
Reminds me of this thread funnily enough.
How or who decides if people were actually defamed? If only there were some kind of process.....
Who is suing the national broadcaster for daring to question them?
If they are actually defamed and it's malicious. Yes.
Do I think politicians should be suing the National Broadcaster for daring to question them? No
I have answered every single question you asked, you just don't like the answer.
No, I don't think they are trying to shut down media, they are trying to stop the casual defamation that has become so easy for some. and correct they are.
It is a ridiculous and sensationalist claim that they are trying to shut down media reporting negative stories. As it is patently obvious that 'media' can, have and will report on negative things about any party. That is their right and I uphold that as well as the rights of an individual to seek redress if they are defamed or libeled.
If somebody feels they are libeled or defamed have they a right to redress BA...YES or NO?
Is this the same Adams who was voiced by an actor (as with others in SF) because the British wouldn't allow his voice he heard? Is it the same Adams who was on the late late show and Gay Byrne refused to sit beside until called on it? So tell me how this Adams tried to silence the media?
As predicted you jump around the question.
We have a number of cases now all with the same goal. If you say anything about Sinn Fein, from accusation of murder, right down to a tongue in cheek comment expect to be dragged to court.
In the two case of Gerry Adams, it was a clear attempt to block the truth. Even worse was one of these cases was about child abuse and was been covered up by Sinn fein while putting at risk other children.
Clear tactics of Sinn fein to shut down all media from negative comments. Right from socail media to the national broadcaster
Very very disturbing carry on.
If Michael Higgins was part of Sinn fein I am sure we would have a defamation case open now after this
Again, do you think this is Sinn fein trying to shut down the media from any negative comments?
It is a simple question. Just answer it or do the usual and hide
A conclusion jumped to there with predictable aplomb, if I may be so bold.
'it's a chat show'.
So not the media then? SF want to shut down chat shows now. 😁😁
The mere fact that no one has much of a clue about her complaint shows us that the complaint itself is frivolous.
It's a chat show
Let's ask the question again, is this a case of Sinn Fein trying to shut down the media to negative comments towards Sinn Fein?
Why did RTE pay out if they were right?
They lost for a reason BA.
Unless you are suggesting the courts are in on this attempt to shut down the media?
I honestly think the FG/FF folk here and on the media have gotten so used to defaming people without consequence they think it is a right now.
Let move onto the next case
Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire sues RTE, for a comment made on a radio chat show. (we will leave the other TD in the article to next).
Do you think this is another case of Sinn fein and a TD going after the media to shut them down?
Seemingly this was the comments:
They were discussing a "fantasy cabinet" post election. A caller said Ó Laoghaire would make a great Justice Minister and Duffy sais something like "Oh would you really want someone like that having access to Department of Justice files? "

Sidestepping again.
MLMD is taking the case as a private individual, just like that person who is suing P. Cosgrave.
Absolutely predictable you would sidestep the answer because you would be admitting that you are only interested in denying the right to redress to 'certain other' persons.
Very good, carry on till you are carried off, I understand your motivations now.
Do you think people (whosoever) have the right to redress? Yes or No? Or are you too seeking to deny it to select people.
C'mon. Do you see the bit you added?
Coming back to this, no Leo has never said he did anything illegal. Some claim that he did.
I never said he did. What he did isn't up for debate, any criminality is.
Is Cosgrave the leader of the opposition and suing the national broadcaster?
You honestly cannot see any issue with this do you? You cannot see the overstepping of the mark of a politician in trying to shutdown journalists?
By the way Cosgrave repeatedly called out his former employee and called him a thief who stole from him. If you cannot see the difference it is because you don't want to see it.
I have passed no comment on MLMD's case. How could I when none of us know what it involves or even what redress she is looking for.
I have no idea what the claim is which is why I have not passed comment.
For someone who is not passing comment you sure are posting again and again, giving your comment on the matter.
As you are keen to discuss Mr Cosgrave...does this person have the right to redress BA, or is it only denied to SF members?
No, he wasn't right and I criticised him for this. I said he should have taken that moment to resign.
He made a mess of that situation and apologised for it.
I uphold anyone's right to seek redress...do you? You STILL have not answered that question.
So you agree with Sinn Fein and Gerry Adams should be allowed to censor the media. Shocking statement to make but no surprise
So next one:
Gerry Adams trying to get his niece to put a gag on the press to stop them releasing the story on Liam Adams, do you agree that is it ok for Gerry to censor the media in this case as well?
It is worth noting that Sinn Fein knew fully about this case as they helped to hide Liam in the South
