But , in the main, only used when being attacked. The current invasion of Uk in a v good example
In February they were saying they were not gonig to invade Ukraine. It was the intelligence that picked up the plans. Has there been intelligence suggesting they may be preparing to use nukes, as what they say is absolutely no indication of what they will do
That's exactly it. US were constantly saying it was going to happen. The US has just announced it's sending 33bill to Ukraine to support them. It wouldn't do that if they had the intelligence to say Russia were serious about the nukes, and they surely wouldn't announce it. And US intelligence has been impressive the last few months.
They're panicking. 10 days to make a meaningful impact or victory day will be hollow. Every day that passes will ramp up the pressure and pressure leads to mistakes.
Message: Come back with victory or don't come back at all...
If not for the videos of the kids in the bunkers in Mariupol then they would just have flattened it by now. Not that they have a problem with killing kids, but it helps if there isn't video of them coming out before you attack.
If they just find the bodies afterwards then they can deny all knowledge or blame it on the other side.
What they accuse others of doing is what they plan on doing, so if they start saying that NATO has plans to fire nukes at Russian territory, it's time to prepare for Russia to fire nukes at NATO territory.
Today, on Sky News, the Russians said they have no intention of using nukes and the west is misinterpreting their rhetoric.
Well, Russia keeps doing exactly what they say they will/did not do, so if they say they will fire a nuke then they won't! I can never see them using a nuke but a dirty bomb that is right up their street.
You can’t spell knackers without Z
Actually everyone is, or should be, talking about how Germany was maneuvered into this situation where is severely dependent of russian gas by the russians. And about how the rest of the Europe was maneuvered into banning fracking by the same russians. And about the fact that russian influence in Europe went largely unchecked for the past 30+ years.
Whatever about being over dependent on Russia for energy, fracking isn't the answer. That's going to cause more problems than it solves. Nuclear for all its ills is far preferable to fracking and the side affects of that process. We shouldn't just move from one level of destruction to the next in order to extricate ourselves from a hole. Out of the frying pan and into the fire
There a huge stocks of grain in Ukraine. Russians in Ukraine once again prove they are scummy thieving bastards. What's new.
Why do we need 2,000 Javelins to start with? Is there a minimum order number?
[Edit] I see other posters have pointed out we have 100.
Oh I agree we may aswell send on everything we have it's pointless us even having them in the first place when's the Irish army ever going to be using javelin misses... Waste of money but even sending that stuff our military aid is extremely limited.
"A massive dependence on China is currently being made worse by them hooking us onto solarpv, batteries and wind generation components they make cheaper (because they have no issues burning coal to make and process these)"
This is the question that should pinned to the proponents of the new Green renewables ideology every time they open their mouths. The virtous solar pv roof panels and dirty batteries etc etc, all produced by industries powered by coal and carbon. Getting someone else to do the dirty work so we can feel good.
If it hasn't already been mentioned, the lend-lease act passed overwhelmingly in the US, another game-changer for Ukraine.
To be fair it's not like they could wait for them to turn up in the special buy aisle in Aldi.
I'd imagine that they have that many to cover training exercised etc over a long period of time.
The one big difference is they thought they could (and would) succeed with the invasion. Firing nuclear weapons at Ukraine would be an act of extreme desperation, doomed to failure.
I was thinking that number seemed Abit high considering the cost of them and our unlikely need for them.
Don’t think they’d fire nukes at Ukraine. In their own minds they are not at war with Ukraine. Ukraine is a special military operation war is with America/NATO.
There's talk that they could set off a small nuclear weapon in a remote area as a 'demonstration' to NATO, but it would be an insane move. Everyone would break off diplomatic relations with them, they would become a pariah state with bells on and it would only stiffen the resolve of the western world against them.
I'm taking a different gist from it --
If Russia pretends they've gotten wind of a Western entity planning to execute a false flag nuclear strike on a Ukrainian city, then they will do it themselves and say "look, we were right".
There's another high priority target for the Ukrainians.
Would everyone break off diplomatic relations? I don't think china would.
I do think that a small, low yield tactical weapon, detonated in an area that isn't heavily populated could be a possibility. They would show that they're willing to use the weapons, without targeting civilians and say that it's against military targets.
There's non nuclear weapons that are stronger than those low yield weapons. For Nato to decide on a "proportional" response would be hard.
It would be insane to do it, but we have passed the point where we can expect rational action from Putin. I honestly don't know what to expect next.
This is Putin in St Petersburg yesterday threatening "lighting fast" retaliation
How should the West interpret that particular piece of "rhetoric"?
Moldova isn't in a very enviable position more or less admitting they can't physically defend themselves ,nato and it's neighbors may have to make a decision to help them or leave them to the wolves ,
Can they move nuclear weapons around and launch them without being noticed by every other nuclear state? Would surely be very hard to claim a regular nuclear missile launch came from somewhere different to where it actually did.
We did order 2,000.
Someone misread the spec sheet though
