Extraordinary Russian account of fighting in Ukraine (translated), I believe 300 refers to an injured soldier and 200 refers to a death
The threat of nuclear war is just propaganda, the FUD kinds, to dwindle support of the western population for Ukraine, sanctions, aid and military intervention.
The problem with Option C is it is the most likely to lead to a nuclear war - Putin has a large Nuclear arsenal, so not sure how that would be considered an ass kicking. If it had been say Hungary that was the aggressor no doubt Option C would have been taken, but its not, thats why caution is needed. Ther is no winner in a nuclear war.
Australia spends over 2% of it's GDP on defense just over 35 billion ,we spend a grand total of 0.2 % about 800 million per year and half of that goes on pensions and salaries , sometimes it does creep up to around a billion when we need new naval and air assets ,still only modest spends though
I think the hesitancy over explicitly calling it genocide is that once you do that you are required to interveen, UN rules or something. Got the impression that sending defensive weapons wasn't considered sufficiently complying with that intervention rule either.
Made one small addition.
Seems to follow the normal decision-making process over there
Germany: We aren't going to do it
Germany: It might cause WW3
Germany: Okay we'll do it
German: Actually we won't, because it might annoy our friends in Russia who are selling us gas and oil
Wash and repeat
Australia's population is only 5 times that of Irelands and yet you say they spend 50 times as much on defence - and you consider that an argument in favour of Ireland.
I don't.
Coffins don't go back to Moscow, they go back to the regions.
I get the feeling that the Ukrainians are waiting out the Russians until their supply issues really hit home. When they aren't able to replace cruise missiles, aircraft and artillery then move in. Would not be surprised that the ukrainians are giving up ground so that the russians move into positions that have been zeroed in with artillery and wearing them down.
I hope so at least.
I doubt even coffins going back makes a difference anymore, 20k dead coming back in 2 months and no one is blinking. These are people who have access to outside information. Putin seems to have the entire country captured and a significant number of Russians seem to be firmly behind him.
@correct horse battery staple - Did you just wake up and realise there are several shithole countries with nuclear weapons?
But only one who is lunatic enough to actually use them.
@correct horse battery staple - What is your solution? that the world just bends over and gives in to terrorism and nuclear blackmail?
Shows how observant you are in this thread. I've been advocating that Nato should intervene in Ukraine throughout the thread. The nuclear risk is there whether we go in or not.
Anyway what's your problem? You're now trying to distort and twist the narrative completely, when I simply challenged you on your comment that the risk of nuclear action "doesn't cause fear".
You need to grow up and stop attacking people for stating facts, when you're spouting a load of nonsense in saying that nuclear threats "doesn't cause fear".
Numerous polls and surveys confirm that the majority of people fear nuclear war. Which makes your comment bullshit.
Except that you are holding a gun also. he is telling you he will shoot you with his colt 45 if you intervene, while you stand there holding your HK in one hand, with a P90 slung on your chest.
It's not actually , been a Putin critic/sceptic way before this year , I just don't know the best way to defeat/stop him and his horrific actions and policy, without further massive casualities and destruction . War is horrific
I think they are trying to clamp down on all the Russian money specifically now with sanctions, and new legislation etc.
Watched this a few days ago on the subject:
It is quite hard for them as they've seemingly set out UKs stall that money/investment flowing into the UK [and wetting the beaks of the groups who traditionally support and donate to the Tories] is a good. Be it from the 2 big autocratic states working to destroy the West (China/Russia), oil sheikhs, various despots, druglords etc. etc. it doesn't matter, it all has no colour in the end, don't ask pointed questions about where it comes from and what it might be buying (and spoil things), just grab it.
A sort of Del Boy philosophy perhaps? ("Where it all comes from is a mystery, it's like the changing of the seasons and the tides of the sea!")
I was hoping every party concerned would do that.
And have used 70% of their long term missiles.
Brilliant news, hope the rest follow suit. Canada has also formally recognised what Russia is doing in Ukraine as genocide
Well that is always the fallback option if you can't get Germany to agree to do something -> Just hint to them that they might get another oul' world war out of it if they do it.
The love the oul world wars so they do
I think the Issue is your claiming they are making progress ,but despite hundreds of thousands of men , thousands of vehicles , missles , bombs they have made little or no real progress inside ukraine , they don't have Infinite number of men vehicles or aircraft available ,
Where ukraine are getting stronger and better supplies on a near daily basis, they also have 30 + Allies firmly supporting them Russia doesn't , Russia has lost something like 60,000 men out of the 100,000 + they initially invaded with and lost thousands of vehicles and aircraft ,at least 20,000 killed and about 40,000 other causalities, no modern military no can sustain such Loses and we're only 2 months in . And that's before we talk about economics
More on the ongoing - not paying in rubles / paying in Euros Germany Gazprom double dealing
"German utility Uniper SE said it can keep buying Russian gas by making payments in euros to Gazprombank JSC which it argued wouldn’t violate European sanctions.
Uniper, one of Europe’s biggest buyers of the fuel from Russia, said it’s in talks with supplier Gazprom PJSC, and is in “very close contact” with the German government after Moscow halted supplies to Poland and Bulgaria for failure to comply with new rules calling for payments in rubles. “We consider the amendment of the payment process complies with the sanctions law and so the payments are possible,” Uniper’s Chief Financial Officer Tiina Tuomela said on a call with analysts."
However
The Commission sent an advisory document to EU countries last week, which said Russia's proposed payment system could breach EU sanctions - even if EU buyers send euros to Gazprombank. That is because under Russia's decree the EU buyer's contractual obligation would not be considered complete until the euros are converted into roubles, the Commission said.
That would put the effective completion of the purchase into the hands of the Russian authorities and involve Russia's central bank, which is subject to EU sanctions.
"As the conversion process may take an undefined amount of time, during which time the foreign currency is entirely in the hands of the Russian authorities including the central bank, it may even be considered as a loan granted by EU companies," the Commission said.

Gazprombank is not subject to EU sanctions."
Apparently the matter is under under review by the European Commission. Ho hum.
Surprise, surprise turns out he's a total piece of ****.
Which is a welcome result; but then you read some of the text of the petition and it really just says similar things to what Scholz has been saying all along. The caveat being I'm not a German speaker and this is all Google translated:
In coordination with other NATO partners, Germany enables the delivery of heavy weapons. In particular, weapons of Soviet or Russian design are to be delivered to the Ukraine because they can be used immediately. Germany replaces or refunds these weapons ("ring exchange").
In addition to the comprehensive economic isolation and decoupling of Russia from the international markets, the most important and effective means of stopping the Russian advance is the intensification and acceleration of the delivery of effective, including heavy, weapons and complex systems by Germany in close coordination with our partners in NATO, EU and the world.
I don't really see a whole lot here that would necessitate Scholz actually removing his finger from his behind and letting Ukraine purchase whatever it wants from German companies; let alone for Germany to actually supply heavy weapons directly.
I heard 2 of the votes against were from Michael Wallach and Clara Dalie.
The far left and the far right have a habit of indirectly or directly supporting Putin, so I'm not the slightest bit surprised
Is this the same guy? 😮
It's hard not to see UK's response coming from a "what Tories think is popular among their base" viewpoint.
Foreigners, even if they're not brown, coming here? Not popular.
War! Sticking it to the bally Russkis? More of this please!
Completely ignoring the fact that said Tories are awash with Russian money.
and thats a horrible analogy, and not the answer.
Nothing new.
When did the rules for the EU min
ions ever apply to Germany.
