There's a touch of "We're warning you, don't make us do it....push us too far and we'll start firing nuclear missiles at you" i.e. a big bunch of spoofers and bluffers who are too arrogant to admit they are losing the war. If all you can bring to the table is nuclear annihilation, then there is nothing to you and you have nothing to offer the world.
It’s amazing is it not, twas all Boris and Brexit before this event started, he is being seen now as the front man with this invasion. He must be happy quietly, kind of took the heat off him for all the other things
As a gesture of good faith, I think we should all post our used socks & underwear to the Russian Embassy to help with their "Not-A-War" effort
Perhaps An Post could offer a special rate?
A bag of dog shíte might be more appropriate
Can you order manure by the truckload, asking for a friend 😉
I gotta admit, it's a scary feeling to agree with Liz.
Wonder will this go ahead?
Definitely - I wouldn't be a fan of hers for a moment, but she's right on this one.
They acted on the initial threat of invading Ukraine, when many including me thoght they wouldn't - the invasion has not gone to plan, I worry that he is crazy eneogh to now do a strike - hope I'm wrong , as they have the capabilities to blow up the world or leave it uninhabiable - Global warming would be the least of our problems and cant stand Borris and his Tory cabinet, the news seams even more depressing than normal.
Someone on social media has pointed out that Putin and his flunkies have been threatening nuclear war for many years and that it is by no means a new development :
I was with you up to your last sentence. Good win for Liverpool 😁
You are making the case for ignoring your point .
Anyone with an ounce of sense could see the Russians were invading. It wasn't ever about posturing.
NATO is a mutal defence treaty. It's purpose, at least ostensibly, is to protect its own members by reacting to attacks against one of them. Ukraine wasn't a member.
Why would he head to Australia from Mexico and not to Vladivostok?
Interesting. Bolsonaro seemed to be a wannabe buddy for Putin. And then there was the Brazilian politician who got in trouble at the start for sending messages, when he visited the Ukrainian border, about how good looking the women were and given that they were so desperate that it would be easy to exploit them...so much that he was planning to come back soon to take advantage
It doesn’t cause fear...
That's a short but sweeping statement.
There are probably millions of old folk worldwide who are fearful, And millions more children and adults alike throughout the world who are also fearful. They've seen the death count, rapes, torture and murders, 10 million displaced and Putins posturing and threats about the Satan II missile that could wipe the UK & Ireland from the face of the map in a single strike. It's the main topic of conversation and it's in our faces on the television, internet and in newspapers every day.
But sure he's a despot, cold blooded, power crazy, a liar, butcher, irrational, ... but it doesn't cause fear.
If we're all being honest then each and every one of us is at least a little apprehensive of what the short fella is going to do next. And there's a first time for everything.
Apprehensive
adjective
Anticipating something with anxiety or fear.
@Kermit_de_frog You are totally wrong to say that we Irish can't be arsed. As a neutral country, we are tied but as a nation we are very much "not arsed". Our family hooked up with a Ukrainian family this week, as a result of a post that a Ukrainian lad put up on FB enquiring about fishing shops in our area. We took him to the fishing shop. He was about to pay 50 euros for his purchase but the owner of the shop gave him everything for free. His aunt, who accompanied him with us to the fishing shop was overwhelmed. She has perfect English and told us all about their escape from Kherson. I'll post details of that tomorrow. She had nothing but praise for what the Irish people/government are doing for them.
From the twitter feed the following:
If you mean Gazprombank - then like most banks they no longer keep their Euros and dollars in an old style safe anymore. Gazprombank as per most banks is doing business every day and being facilitated by European countries such as Germany and Austria.
You aren't really being realistic though, do you really think Ireland militarizing it's self is going to tip the scales in the "defense of the free world"
We are far better off and of more use doing what we are doing rather than sending a a pittence worth of weapons and trying to "save the world" in our attempt to make ourselves feel better.
In short our military presense in conflicts would = 0 impact on the outcome.
There's an old adage along the line of
There's no point in worrying about things they haven't happened yet
And if they do happen then we won't have to worry any more
Otherwise known as the theory of How I Learned to stop worrying and love the Bomb.
We will all be down on our knees around the presses trying to find our iodine tablets they gave out years ago😀
"In the occupied Kherson, 58 orphans were taken from the basement of the church in an unknown direction, - former Commissioner for Children's Rights Mykola Kuleba.
The children were allegedly taken away by representatives of the FSB – he blames the Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova, who announced the whereabouts of the children."
The speed and deliberation with which they sought and kidnapped these kids suggests to me there might be an official purpose and policy of truly horrific motives and nature such as to make most of the other outrages committed by the orcs seem minor.
Something seems badly off.
Well just be thankful that at least it wasn't Priti.
Add the 6 from Australia that just arrived, and within the coming week, Ukraine could be fielding 60-70 new 155mm Howitzers. If the orcs were making only minor advances recently, this lot might be enough to bring them to a halt or better.
From a slowish start the West is ratcheting up support.
This will give Russia pause before considering invading Odessa.

First of all it's not something any of us have any power over; so worrying and talking about it constantly is entirely counter-productive.
Second of all it is absolutely a concern people have cited numerous times in this thread and on social media, in the news, etc.
And thirdly there are many other rungs on the escalation ladder before we would get to actual nuclear war. More likely shorter term escalations might include a general mobilisation in Russia for example; or maybe some sort of isolated tactical nuclear or chemical weapon usage in Ukraine before a global nuclear conflict would be in the offing.
You are obviously not old enough to have lived during the last Cold War
As with your sweeping "judgement" that it doesn't cause fear, your above statement is also totally wrong. I'm past pension age.
the last Cold War where there was about 20x more nuclear weapons
More weapons means absolutely fcuk all when just a handful of them can destroy the planet. And a single one of the new Satan missiles that Putin has can destroy a whole country.
Russia today is not anywhere near as scary as Soviet Union was
There wasn't anyone quite as mad as Putin in power then, and he's proven time and again that there is no negotiating with crazy.
Making assumptions is obviously not your forte. And your opinions in no way express the majority.
I'm personally not fearful of the risk of nuclear confrontation, but there are millions who are. Additionally, you're no mind reader so you have no clue as to what the crazy man Putin intends to do next. He may have bluffed in the past but he's never been this close to all out war with Nato and the West before. I have no doubt he will reach for the nuclear option if that happens.

Apologies for the late link.
