It's actually Hillarious, all the shenanigans, all the leaks, all the makey uppy jobs, the "investigations", all the "considering of correcting Dail Record" and most of all, the amount of lessons learned and this shower squabbling over a Sod of Turf , its extraordinary but highly entertaining 😁

Beech is a hardwood (deciduous, slow growing) and great for burning. And furniture. Evergreens tend to be softwoods.

Surprised that no FGer has told him to get on his bike and feck off. :) It would save the Greens from any of the fallout of Varadkar possibly being charged and prosecuted. A Summer GE might be nice for campaigning.

Heated debates happen all the time in private companies when opposite opinions come together, don’t see anyone getting excited over them

Yes 100% correct, I only use hard wood, might use Beech (Softwood) but not pines /Evergreens etc
Forestry timber? Softwood I presume. Be careful, their high resin content can cause flue problems with oily/sticky deposits.
I agree Ash can be an issue, but guess what I do with the Ash, Eamonn Ryan would be proud of me, I use it when mixing compost (which I also make from left over Vegetables, peelings etc), Gosh, I could be a Green poster boy if only I stopped using Turf 😉

The Health Minister has directly intervened to order the HSE to hold 'on the ground' meetings with the Disabilities Minister amid concerns about how services for children are being delivered.
Minister of State Anne Rabbitte has suggested that senior HSE officials blocked her from holding individual meetings with those managing services for children with disabilities across the country as they feared what she might ask and "the lack of control" they would have over such meetings.
Minister Stephen Donnelly contacted HSE chief executive Paul Reid after the Irish Examiner reported that Ms Rabbitte was being continuously prevented from holding one-to-one meetings with each of the nine CHO disabilities managers and their teams working on the ground.
It is understood the HSE has now agreed to allow these monthly meetings to go ahead. Ms Rabbitte said it was "regrettable" and "unfortunate" that her position had been "undermined" and that a senior minister had to get involved.
I always found it released too much ash,and a balls to clean stove out,so long since moved away and use forestry timber (can be got effectively free here)
If they are placing 1300 deaths per annum at feet of turf (would love see data and science),then the cost of retrofitting every home in state is pennies when placed at price of a persons life
I'm slightly Biased as I use Turf but properly Dried out ( I use turf dried out for a year, usually) it's incredibly efficient and is not as smokey as the Greens would have us believe. Of course its not ideal. There's also this false narrative that people burn wet or damp turf, it's nonsense, not only would it not burn, your home would be a smokey mess. Dry turf, once it reaches temperature releases very little smoke. I also here mention of it being a cheap fuel source, it most certainly is not if like me you have to purchase from a local small bog. A tractor trailer load now costing up to €400.

The 1300 deaths attributed to Turf burning is a nonsense given government can't even determine how many people actually burn Turf. Perhaps that figure is including coal, oil, gas & Car emissions 🤔
If turf is as bad as alleged (no word on air pollution from cars, planes,trains,industry etc....turf is seemingly 100% responsible for 1300 air pollution deaths per annum aparently....personally not buying it)
The state should pay 100% to retrofit each and every house remotely relient upon it,its pennies in cost compared to peoples lives and saves 1300 lives per annum,get on with it and run country correctly for fcuking once
Turf is a low-quality fuel,they used cut it here long ago,and poor enough for heat vs timber/coal....the fact the government has now made coal largly unaffordable to average person and drove them towards turf again,is likely a deliberate policy or gross incompetence
In medium to long term,there is likely going to be a carbon credit benefit in the next CAP,which will effectivtely pay lads not to cut it anyway.....(with 10 plus feet here in parts,i do stand to do well😅)
I have no problem with public transport, but in rural Ireland it is practically non-existent, and the greens aren`t falling all over themselves doing anything about changing that. Something which is not going to do much for getting cars off the roads.Even the Dublin city public transport latest plan from Ryan, to me at least, looks underwhelming.
We are looking for the E.U. to give us a derogation on VAT on fuel while we could do the same with carbon taxes ourselves. Which even aside from who is benefiting from these carbon taxes, just looks like running around in a circle for no good reason.
Banning turf burning, considering the relatively small quantities we burn, is nothing other than green ideology with the red herring excuse it`s because we have not got clean air, when we are one of the highest rated countries in the world for clean air.
Sustainable development is one of those buzz words thrown around nowadays that neither the person uttering or the person hearing knows what it is. Putting all your eggs in the wind and solar basket as, the Irish greens are determined to do, where both have shown they are unreliable I would not see as qualifying as sustainable development.
Extraordinary scenes inside and outside the Dail today, FG and Greens had separate press briefings slagging off each other, then comments from Norma Foley joining in and various FF TD'S . All this over Turf and Eamonn Ryans stupidity.

Exactly, wasn't Ming on the warpath about this ban a few years ago.
The truth is that policies to beat climate change will benefit the planet hugely in the longer term but will cause some difficulties in the shorter term. Populist politicians and populist posters will therefore jump on any bandwagon whether it is delay carbon tax, or allow turf burning for short-term popularity for their party at the expense of long-term gains for the planet.
I haven't heard a single opposition politician suggest that the carbon tax should be increased or that the turf ban should come in quicker. If there was one, they would get my support. We probably have the worst opposition in the history of this country.
